Where do tourists in Calaveras
County spend their money?

As you can see from this
graph, tourism directly benefits
not only restaurants, lodging,
retail sales and recreation, but
also Calaveras County gas
stations and grocery stores.
TAX GENERATION

How does the county benefit
from all that visitor spending?

Tourism in Calaveras County
generated $1.3 million in local
taxes in 2010.

In addition, tourism in
Calaveras County generated
$4.9 million in state taxes in
2010.

This brings tourism tax
generation in Calaveras in
2010 to a total of $6.2 million,
up 4.4% from the previous
year.
TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX

TOT (also known as the “tourism
tax”) is a tax assessed on room
nights in our lodging facilities. In
Angels Camp the TOT tax is 10%,
while in unincorporated Calaveras
County, the TOT tax is currently
6%.

33% of the TOT collected in
unincorporated Calaveras County,
and 13% of the TOT collected in
the City of Angels Camp is
reinvested in the Calaveras
Visitors Bureau.

These funds make up the majority
of our annual funding and allow
us to continue generating tourism
business for Angels Camp and
Calaveras County.
ANGELS CAMP TOT

Angels Camp’s TOT rate was
raised from 6% to 10% in 2003,
effectively doubling TOT
collections by 2004.

The graph below shows Angels
Camp’s TOT generation of $787.5
thousand compared to Calaveras
County’s $358.9 thousand for
2011.
