2. LEARNING INTENTION
• TODAY WE ARE LEARNING TO:
• Summarise the problem situation based on research done and
formulate the design brief and specifications
• THIS IS BECAUSE
• As designers we need to be clear about our intent on designing and
making the product as we move on to the next phase of the design
process which is Idea Conceptualisation
• SUCCESS CRITERIA
• I am successful if I can summarise the problem in four paragraphs and
define my design brief and design specifications accurately
3. Activate learning: Kickstarter website
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/orbitkey/orbitkey-id-card-
holder-system?ref=section-design-tech-explore-module-product-design
As you observe the video for the product advertisement, take note of
the following:
1. What is the sequence of the video like?
2. What are the functions of the product?
3. Who is the user in the product?
4. Where is this product used?
5. CRAFTING THE PROBLEM SITUATION
1ST PARAGRAPH
What is the theme of the project?
Do an introduction to the theme in the 1st paragraph.
It is suggested to highlight the theme in the paragraph.
2nd PARAGRAPH
Based on the research done, what are the problems associated with the theme?
Summarise the findings of the problems surfaced in the 2nd paragraph.
3rd PARAGRAPH
Based on the product analysis, what are some existing products that can already solve the problem?
Summarise the weaknesses and threats of the existing products in the 3rd paragraph.
4th PARAGRAPH
Conclude your findings by indicating what you are going to do to solve the problem as designer.
What is the desired outcome/critical needs of the project?
You may start the paragraph in this way:
‘Therefore, it would be good if there is a product that can…’
6. DESIGN BRIEF
DESIGN AND MAKE A PRODUCT
THAT ___________ (FUNCTION)
FOR ________ (USERS) TO BE
USED IN THE _________
(ENVIRONMENT).
CRAFTING THE DESIGN BRIEF
7. CRAFTING THE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
WRITE THE DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS AGAIN AS DERIVED EARLIER FROM YOUR RESEARCH:
1. FUNCTION
What is the function of your product?
2. AESTHETICS
What is the shape and colour of your product and why?
3. ERGONOMICS
In what way is your product designed to be more safe and/or comfortable for the user to use?
4. MATERIALS
What characteristics of the material of your product is needed and why?
9. ACTIVITY
Instructions:
Use the computer to type out your problem situation, design brief
and specifications in a word document.
Print out your answers on A4 paper and paste the answers on A3
paper.
Submit to your teacher by the next lesson.
