29. How did and do we manage our financial
situation?
We are going to get more for less!
• We are not willing to sacrifice production to reduce our cost of
production.
• The only way to reduce the cost of inputs is to stop buying
them or create a competitive situation.
You have to know your costs if you want to control them
• If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it!
30. More For Less
2% More Production for 5% less costs
2 more lbs of milk per cow per day
1,569,500 lbs annually at $15.00/cwt. = $235,425.00
5% less costs
$17.00/cwt. Costs of production = $11,339,637.00
5% = $566,982.00
Net = $802,407.00
Easy math, we feel like this is achievable
31. Our greatest challenges
Transitioning our business happily to the next generation.
• Huge financial and emotional cost
• Biggest challenge to all American Dairy Farms
Learning how to thrive in a volatile marketplace and figure
out where the industry will be in 10 years.
We want to be there first.
32. What every farmer should know
You better get better or you better get out!
For the young farmers.
You need to leave the farm for a while.
You and the farm will be better for it.
