The career path of a chef
In the past, chefs develop the required skills through long-term on-the- job training. Apprenticeship
programs can provide you with an idea of how working as a chef is like, allowing you to decide whether a
culinary career is indeed for you. These training programs let you work with various types and
personalities of chefs. In most instances, you earn money during your apprenticeship.
However, nowadays, finishing a formal training course is suggested if not necessary, since there is high
competition for culinary jobs particularly in upscale restaurants, hotels, and gambling establishments,
where the pay tends to be higher.
You can choose from three different kinds of
culinary courses, and these are vocational, two-year,
and four-year programs. A lot of people choose
vocational courses as these are less costly, can be
finished in generally less than a year, and can
already make it possible for them to get an entry
level post in dining establishments. These courses
involve many hours of actual cooking experience;
however, cooking theory is usually not as
comprehensive.

3. If you wish to take on higher positions later on, your best choice is to take a 2-4 year degree program. The
curriculum for these courses differ, but these generally include cooking theory and techniques, menu
preparation, cost control, purchasing, storage, hygiene, related public health guidelines, and business
principles.
Many people volunteer to work unpaid in a
commercial kitchen for a few months prior to
going to culinary schools in Florida. The
experience you receive from apprenticeship
will help ensure that you can better appreciate
lessons when you do take them.
