1. HISTORY OF VIDEOGAMES
In 1958 William Higginbotham, using a program for calculating trajectories and an oscilloscope, create tennis for
two: a table tennis simulator for the entertainment of visitors to the Brookhaven National Laboratory.
This video game was the first to allow the game between two human players. Four years later, Steve Russell, a
student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, spent six months creating a game for vector graphics:
Spacewar.
In this game, two players controlled the direction and speed of two spacecraft fighting each other. The video
game worked on a PDP-1 and was the first to have a certain success, although it was only known outside the
university scope.
2. •An important milestone in the beginning of video games
was in 1971 when Nolan Bushnell began to market
Computer Space, a version of Space War, although
another recreational version of Space War as it was
Galaxy War may be advanced in the early 70's in The
campus of Stanford University.
3. • The 1980s began with a strong growth in the video game sector
fueled by the popularity of the arcade and video game consoles
that emerged during the 1970s.
During these years stand out systems like Oddyssey 2
(Phillips), Intellivision (Mattel), Colecovision (Coleco), Atari
5200, Commodore 64, Turbografx (NEC). On the other hand in
the games machines triumphed games like the famous Pacman
(Namco), Battle Zone (Atari), Pole Position (Namco), Tron
(Midway) or Zaxxon (Sega).
4. •In the late 1980s, 16-bit consoles began to
appear as Sega's Mega Drive and
microcomputers were slowly replaced by
personal computers based on IBM
architectures.
5. •In 1985 appeared Super Mario Bros, which was a
turning point in the development of electronic games,
since most of the previous games only contained a few
screens that were repeated in a loop and the objective
was simply to do a high score. The game developed by
Nintendo was a burst of creativity. For the first time we
had a goal and an end in a video game. In later years
other companies emulated their style of play.
