• Release on Recognizance
• Conditional Release
• Unsecure Bond

Standard Criteria for Release
• Seriousness of the crime
• Likelihood to appear
• Risk of committing new crime

Pretrial Release Conditions
•   Report regularly to a pretrial agency
•   Maintaining a stable residence
•   Finding employment
•   Having a third party accept custody or supervision
•   Participating in drug or alcohol treatment
•   Obeying curfew
•   No interactions with witnesses of codefendants

Most Common Method of Pretrial Release
•   Surety Bonds = 37%
•   Release on Recognizance = 26%
•   Conditional Release = 14%
•   Deposit Bond = 10%
•   Unsecured Bonds = 9%
•   Full Cash Bonds = 2%

Widening the Net
When an individual who should have received
probation is sentenced to a harsher intermediate
sanction only because the offenders requires more
intensive supervision (Alarid, Cromwell, & Del Carmen)

•Potential for future criminal behavior
