1. Cameron Chell is a serial business entrepreneur who currently splits his time
between Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and Calgary. Originally from Fort Macleod,
Canada, Chell grew up the son of a butcher, who he says was the one who instilled in him
the attitude of always doing more than what people expect you to do and to go the extra
mile. Chell started his entrepreneurism in 1997 by founding the technology firm,
FutureLink. In 1999, he also managed to co- found a computer software company called
Engyro. After making a move to California in 1999, Chell discovered a few years later
that the Dot Com Crash and 911 did not make for the best market for start-ups. So, he
began to focus more of his energies back in Canada, and Calgary specifically. Since then,
Chell has founded and is the CEO of Business Instincts Group, a firm that creates
successful high-tech start-ups in various business sectors, including in the energy sector,
which is why Calgary is so pivotal. Chell has helped co-found companies such as SLYCE
in 2012, which allows smartphone users to be able to take a picture of something and
automatically buy it. Other notable startups include UrtheCast, which produces the
world’s first HD streaming video of Earth from space, and Trace, which is developing a
new product categories called Tracers. Tracers are devices with cameras that via Visual
Intelligence™ technology, autonomously follow and stream live action of any given
subject to all social networks including the Trace Network. Tracers can be attached to
any number of accessories like quad-copters, tripods, skateboards, etc. Chell is also a
dedicated family man, author of The Sustainable Startup, public speaker and guest writer
for The Globe and Mail and TechCrunch and other notable publications.
