Current is defined as the flow of electric charge over time and is measured in amperes. For current to flow there must be a potential difference (voltage) and a conducting material. The equation for current is the charge in coulombs divided by the time in seconds. By convention, current is defined as the flow of positive charge even though electrons actually flow in the opposite direction from the positive to negative terminal of a battery.
