The narrator had a narrow escape from a group of thugs who attacked him at his home in the middle of the night. They beat and shackled him for preaching Christianity and condemning local traditions. When the thugs' leader arrived, things looked dire for the narrator. However, his two brothers, who were soldiers, received a tip about the planned attack and arrived just in time to rescue him and arrest the thugs. Though injured, the narrator was grateful to have been saved from certain death by God's divine intervention. The thugs were imprisoned but the narrator chose to forgive them and continued preaching without fear.
