SINGULAR

There’s an umbrella in your

There isn’t a scarf.
PLURAL
+
There are two skirts.
There are some earrings.

There aren’t any cameras .
There aren’t any coats.
 There’s a TV in the classroom = the
classroom has a TV.
 Some and any + plural nouns.
 Some = you don’t know how many (Qty).
 Use any in negative sentences.

?
Is there a black pen in your
pencil case?
o Yes, there is.
o No, there isn’t.
PLURAL
?
Are there any chairs in the
classroom 105?
o Yes, there are.
o No, there aren’t.
 Interrogative:
Is + there + a/an + singular noun + compl. ?
 Don’t contract there is in short answers, e.g.,
Yes, there is NOT Yes, there’s.
 Interrogative:
Are + there + any + plural noun + compl. ?
 Use any in interrogative sentences.
