Si, para darme la vida,

la voz escucha de un triste,
que en dulce llanto se anega.
2. De un mar furioso, las ondas
el alma sorberse intentan
y, contra mi vida, todas
las tormentas se revelan.
Y cuando, quietas las aguas,
semblante apacible muestran,
en mil escollos que ocultan
mis dichas todas tropiezan.
3. Pero a tu vista de modo
se rinde toda la fuerza,
que, en medio de los peligros,
seguro puerto me enseña.
A vuestro seno me acojo,
que, en él, han de hallar mis penas
gustoso cielo por puerto
aunque te quedes en tierra.

a este dolor inflamado

1. Virgen, la más dolorosa
que entre los hombres se vio,
pues es tu dolor medido,
alta mano de tu amor.
4. Tórtola más solitaria,
cuyo sagrado candor,

una humana compasión,
admite por compañero
de tus penas mi dolor.
The heart, pierced by pain,

lágrimas da el sol,
perlas son, que en María
valen lo que Dios.
Gallardo blasón,
que en María divina
reconcentra amor,
por ser nácar de perla
de tanto valor.

Con el divino rocío
que el cielo a la tierra dio,
esta perla se engendró.
Que enriquece el amor mío,
desatada al hielo frío,
muestra el valor con que salva.
Perla de valor igual,
María esta noche ha dado,
tan guardada en su brocado,
como gota en mi sayal,
cuyo valor celestial
eterno tributo salva.
The sun grants tears
to the dawn’s laughter.
They are pearls that, in Mary,
are worth as much as God.
