Development Communication
DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION is the art and science of
human communication. It is an organized effort to use
communication processes to bring social and economic
changes generally in developing countries.
There are two modes of DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION-
A. Monologic Mode
B. Dialogic Mode

A. Monologic Mode : One Way Communication
MONOLOGIC MODE is a One Sided
communication.
In Development Communication- it is based
on the flow of information for the purpose of
spreading the information or messages to
bring changes.
This can be divided in two types-
A1. Communication to Inform
A2. Communication to Persuade
One to One
One to Many

COMMUNICATION TO INFORM typically means one way transmission of
information usually from a sender to one or many receivers.

COMMUNICATION TO PERSUADE is an approach for behavior change or
raising awareness by inducing individuals to adopt specific practices.

B. Dialogic Mode : Both Way Communication
DIALOGIC MODE is a two sided
communication.
In Development Communication- it is based
on participatory communication, where
people can share and encourage their ideas
in a democratic environment.
This can be divided in two types-
A1. Communication to Assess
A2. Communication to Empower

COMMUNICATION TO ASSESS is used as a research or analytical tool to
investigate or explore both opportunities and risks of any technical or
political issue.

COMMUNICATION TO EMPOWER is used to facilitate active participation
of stakeholders to assess the situation and look for possible solutions.
WORKSHOPs, TRAININGs, SEMINARs, SCHOOL CAMPAIGNs, YARD MEETINGs ensure active
participation in decision making process and help to get possible solutions by assessing the situation. 10
