Setting up equipment
S Firstly, in my photo-shoot I used a specific
camera which was called the d3200 Nikon
DSLR camera, which is a top of the range
camera which specifically focus on getting
the best photographs as possible by using
a setting called autofocus , this camera is
worth roughly around £230 where as the
tripod that I used to hold the camera cost
around £20 this tripod was called a Velbon
DF-41 tripod. Lighting is no issue for this
camera with its advanced settings as you
can change the time of day on the camera
so therefore it will need more lighting gin
the night where as if the picture was taken
during the day.

Pre production material
S Pre-production materials work done on a product,
especially a film or broadcast programmed, before full-
scale production begins. Hand drawn drafts were changed
so it looked more professional and attractive for the
audience. You essentially do pre production material to
plan for your product, it is essential because it helps you to
gather information on what you want to do an gives you
rough guidelines which could save you money in the long
term as you may have prevented a mistake from occurring.
Also my rap theme in my magazine article was conveyed
in my cover stories but I didn't’t used any props to illustrate
this to the audience.

production plan is overall a time based over two weeks and the
last day Wednesday the 7th January is when the product will be
due to launch to the public.
Test photography
S For my test photography I took several different pictures in
different locations so that I could see which looked the best.
Then I will use this photo in Photoshop where I may add an
edit before it gets transferred in to my main double page
spread or front cover. Also test photography helped me to
build up ideas of where I am going to take my final picture as
the previous photos where just a practices to how well I
looked in front of the camera etc.
Final photo for
my double page
spread after
being edited with
background has
been taken out
by using the
quick selection
tool.
Operating desktop publishing
skills.
Firstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so that
everything that you are inputting is in line. Then I started of my creating a box so the barcode could
easily fit inside of it, with the social media links such as: instagram, Facebook and lastly twitter, I done
this by getting the images of the internet and transferred them straight to my front cover which I had to
make them smaller, so they could therefore fit inside the box. Also I had to include the issue date which
I done this by using the T button on the tool bar and then created the text box which I then typed the
date into the text box.
Secondly, before starting to do any other conventions it is essential to insert your
background this is due to the fact that it will be easier later on when finishing of the front
cover. I started of creating my background. Firstly by setting up a page then going format
background then choosing the color and gradient that you want.
Now you have added a background and barcode, you can add in a masthead to the front cover. This can be
done by downloading a specific font that you want from a website called ‘da font’ this will be installing in the
downloading section of the mac, click on the font that is downloading and press ‘install font’ and then you
can type the title that you want.
Then this step is when you need to take a picture of whoever you want to feature in your
magazine. This needs to be done by a picture being taken on a hd camera and using the
memory stick that you insert to the back of the computer. To neaten up the edges of the
picture use the quick selection tool which will get rid of the background as well.
To make the front cover look more like a magazine, you can add a
headline, puff promotion, quotes, featured artist
Operating DTP tools continued
The quick selection tool is a specific tool that is
used in adobe Photoshop when you have and
image with a background that you may want
remove, this can furthermore can be used in my
project when I took a picture where the
background decrease the quality of the photo, so
in this case I used the quick selection tool to
remove a brick wall background which I ended
up with this photograph on the right.
Also the airbrush tool was used in the photo above as well
which is the photograph that I used for my double page
spread. The air brush tool was used to make my photos
smoother and softer round the edges which makes the photo
look a better quality making it more professional.
Step by step summary
Double page spread.
You will have to repeat the same process that you would of done with the front cover by setting up the canvas that you would like
and add in your ruler lines to make sure that your layout is all in line. Also you can change the background if you would like to
change it.
Like you would have done for your front cove you need to add in your masthead, but not the strapline this is because this is only
convention for the front cover. At the bottom of the page you can add page numbers to make it look like a double page spread in a
magazine.
Now that the basics are in place it will be time to add in your main image, you can do this by going to file, place and adding in the
picture you want and also edit it to how you like it and until you think it looks up to standard.
After adding in your picture it will be time to add in your text for your article. The first section of the text can be the quote this is
because if you want to put text around the quote you can do this easier if the quote is already imputed.
By adding in your quote in first, this can also allow you to add in the stand verse, when adding in the stand verse you will need to
create a drop capital, you will do this by creating a text box and type in the first letter of the word that is going to start your text. And
then you will need to go down the pen tool(15th) bar down and click around some of the sides of your letters and then carry on
making a text box where you want your stand verse to go. And then after that type all of the rest of your text for the paragraph.
Use the text tool bar to add in any text that you would like that may boost your magazines appearance, also another convention
that you may want to add which will also boost your magazines appearance will be to change your text colour to any colour that
you think looks the best. If you want to change the width or height of the writing in the magazine front cover, highlight over it and
click ‘windows’ at the top of the screen and go to the characters.
For puff promotions, repeat the steps of adding a shape then place the text on top, and follow the previous steps before if you feel
like you need to change the colour of your writing or the length and width of your writing which will overall boost the appearance of
your magazine.
Step by step guide Front
CoverFirstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so

Conclusion
S Furthermore, in conclusion I have covered what
equipment I am going to be using for my magazines
photo shoot and the prices of the equipment that I have
been using which could make my magazine look more
professional due to the advanced equipment that I may
be using. Additionally, I have a step by step in how I
made my front cover and dps and how I went about doing
the edits that I done on my front cover to teach someone
who maybe doesn’t know how to do some of t.hese key
skills.
Deadlines
to have my deadline for the launch of my magazine in the
production plan in previous slides it is seen as Wednesday
the 7th January 2017, which I would have come to the terms
that I have met this deadline. The longest part of creating
my magazine was doing the planning out for my magazine
because I had very few ideas of how I was going start it and
what genre I was going to do, who I was going to interview
for example.
Post Production Skills
S Photoshop CS5.1 was the application that I used to create my front cover and
double page spread. This is furthermore because the editing on Photoshop is
advanced and therefore it will make my front cover and dps as professional as
possible. I used advanced skills like pushing test past pictures which attracts
the reader to want to read the interview because it looks more attractive and
interesting for the reader of that specific magazine. Furthermore, in my dps I
used a drop capita to attract the audience to want to start to read the cover
stories/ interview as the big ‘H’ draws the reader to glance at this section of the
dps. Also the eraser tool and vertical type tool are two specific tools that I used
within Photoshop to create my front cover and dps which both of these were
used. The horizontal type tool is used to create text boxes which allow you to
type information on to your page but horizontal will be seen as a text box that
goes further across than down. Where as vertical is seen as down more than
across.
Unit 13-planning and pitching-
risk Assessment
S Software risk Assessment- software risk Assessment can be seen as
resizing and image but using the ‘shift key’ which will allow you to be able to make the
picture smaller and by pressing the shift key it will keep the picture looking
professional due to it still having its high quality, but furthermore if you do not do this
will lead to a pixelated picture and it will be warps which makes the photo look
unprofessional. This technique is when resizing images whilst still keeping the quality
of the photo high and preventing the photo from becoming stretched and distorted.
S Eyedropper Tool- To maintain consistency and professionalism throughout my
magazine ‘$tackz’, on Photoshop their is a good and efficient tool called the
‘eyedropper tool’ that’s helps to choose the colour of a specific object that will be on
the front cover, then you will have the chance to save this colour and be able to use it
again which keeps the front cover professional, because you save the colour allowing
you to use it again which will furthermore improve your front cover as you will have
the same colours which will make it professional. Also when making a new object
such as a textbox or a shape I can just click on the previous saved colour so I can
use it again which is also quicker and more precise as the colour has been previously
saved. This furthermore speeded up colour choosing for me as well as keeping it as
professional as possible.
Colour
Colour in my front cover and my double page spread, it is
essential that all the colours that I am using are exactly the
same colour and even the same tone. This is essential
because if you are trying to use the same colours in your front
cover but some of the colours are darker than others this will
therefore make the audience, or who ever is looking at my
magazine this will make them think that it my magazine is
unprofessional.
Fonts
S When I was picking fonts for my front cover and double page
spread. I thought it through as much as I could, due to the fact that
I wanted my font to link to the genre of my magazine for example if
my genre was ‘HIP HOP’ then I would have had a smooth and chill
font. Where as if it was ‘RAP’ then I would of used a font that was
more graffiti type and also maybe a bold font. All of these font that I
would have been looking up would be found in website called
www.dafont.com. Which this website has a variety of different
fonts. One of the fonts that i used for my magazine as 28 days
later which is a bold and dark font which I used due to the fact that
it symbolizes my genre as it is rap. And lastly for my other
magazine which is $TACKZ I used a font called ‘Obelix pro’ this is
because this font is bold and stands out to the audience which will
attract them to want to read the rest of the magazine.
Proof reading and sub editing
S On my double paged spread, I made sure that I proof
read my work to ensure that there was no errors. For
example if there was a spelling mistake I would of
noticed this when prof reading and changed to this to
make sure that I get a good grade because if there are
spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes this could
furthermore lower my grade. For example when proof
reading my work I found a spelling mistake of
presentation as u can see in the bottom left which then I
furthermore corrected to ensure that I I didn’t drop marks
due to spelling mistakes.
Safe working practices
S When inserting pictures that have been created ands used in
Photoshop the easiest way to remove the background in that
specific image is going to the eraser rubber on the tool bar in
photo-shoot and click on this tool and then it should allow you
to remove parts of your background, the best way to do this is
to hold down on the mouse and slowly click everywhere that
you don’t want which this then should accurately remove the
background. Also by removing a background this could
furthermore make that page that your creating a little bit
boring, so what I would do to cover up for this space is put
some text boxes in which would take up more room, this is
due to the fact that the background is missing which a
background does take a big section up of a picture so to
cover up from this will be to cover it up by adding several text
boxes.
Final changes to double page spread
I have also added
in magazine
credits at the top
of the double page
spread to convey
to the audience
who has helped
me to build up this
page also I've
added in credits to
the interviewer of
my double page
spread and the
photographer.
I also added in a page number because in my magazine
inspiration there was a page number, and in the process of
creating this spread I was told to use my magazine inspiration to
get small ideas and copy them over to make my double page
spread look better and more professional.
Changes
For one improvement for my front cover
magazine Also another improvement that I
changed form my front cover was that my
‘$TACKZ’ headline was too far down the
front cover behind the main image. So to
change this I had to raise the masthead a
little margin higher so that it look a little bit
more profession so that the main image
wasn’t covering the title.
‘On your front cover all your cover lines on the left and
right hand side must line up, this is an essential
correction because if all the cover lines don’t like up it
makes the front cover look unprofessional and makes
the front cover not look as good as it should do, so
therefore I moved the cover lines so that it meets up
with the ruler lines/margins which this now looks much
better as you can see in the after picture.
One of my changes production plan and my front cover, I had a different launch date from which I put on my front cover-
01/02/2017, when really the product will be getting launched on the 07/01/2017. Furthermore, this is an essential
correction due to the fact that if I uploaded my magazine with the wrong launch date then this will make my business un-
professional due to the fact that the magazine would have come out on that specific date.
Witness statement
The yellow
HIGHLIGHT is
something that I
didn't’t do well in
my pitch but
furthermore I have
corrected these to
make my pitch
better
The green
highlights is a
section that I
completed well.
My witness statement conveys that I have
completed the majority of tasks, but the
yellow highlights over the writing can illustrate
that I have corrections that I need to repeat.
One of them being target audience- spending
power which is must one individual slide that I
need to complete to get rid of this correction.
Conclusion
S In LO3 and LO4 unit 14 to conclude it as a whole in this unit I
have been talking about improvements from my front cover, the
fonts that I have used in my work, also furthermore talking
about the fonts that have been used in my front cover and my
double page spread this is significant because I have used
fonts that have a meaning and symbolizes something. For
example my fonts are mysterious which could convey what my
genre is which can be seen as ‘rap’. Also i have been talking
about safe working practices and when inserting and enlarging
and image you need to make sure that you hold the control
button to prevent it from becoming warps which looks
unprofessional to the target audience.

  • 2. Setting up equipment S Firstly, in my photo-shoot I used a specific camera which was called the d3200 Nikon DSLR camera, which is a top of the range camera which specifically focus on getting the best photographs as possible by using a setting called autofocus , this camera is worth roughly around £230 where as the tripod that I used to hold the camera cost around £20 this tripod was called a Velbon DF-41 tripod. Lighting is no issue for this camera with its advanced settings as you can change the time of day on the camera so therefore it will need more lighting gin the night where as if the picture was taken during the day. Equipmen t Cost Office Space £300,000 Apple MacBook x 25 £41,225 Photoshop x 25 £1724.75 Desks x 25 £2,850 Chairs x 25 £2,200 Printer £ 172 Camera x 5 £1595
  • 3. Pre production material S Pre-production materials work done on a product, especially a film or broadcast programmed, before full- scale production begins. Hand drawn drafts were changed so it looked more professional and attractive for the audience. You essentially do pre production material to plan for your product, it is essential because it helps you to gather information on what you want to do an gives you rough guidelines which could save you money in the long term as you may have prevented a mistake from occurring. Also my rap theme in my magazine article was conveyed in my cover stories but I didn't’t used any props to illustrate this to the audience.

  • 7. Test photography S For my test photography I took several different pictures in different locations so that I could see which looked the best. Then I will use this photo in Photoshop where I may add an edit before it gets transferred in to my main double page spread or front cover. Also test photography helped me to build up ideas of where I am going to take my final picture as the previous photos where just a practices to how well I looked in front of the camera etc. Final photo for my double page spread after being edited with background has been taken out by using the quick selection tool.
  • 8. Operating desktop publishing skills. Firstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so that everything that you are inputting is in line. Then I started of my creating a box so the barcode could easily fit inside of it, with the social media links such as: instagram, Facebook and lastly twitter, I done this by getting the images of the internet and transferred them straight to my front cover which I had to make them smaller, so they could therefore fit inside the box. Also I had to include the issue date which I done this by using the T button on the tool bar and then created the text box which I then typed the date into the text box. Secondly, before starting to do any other conventions it is essential to insert your background this is due to the fact that it will be easier later on when finishing of the front cover. I started of creating my background. Firstly by setting up a page then going format background then choosing the color and gradient that you want. Now you have added a background and barcode, you can add in a masthead to the front cover. This can be done by downloading a specific font that you want from a website called ‘da font’ this will be installing in the downloading section of the mac, click on the font that is downloading and press ‘install font’ and then you can type the title that you want. Then this step is when you need to take a picture of whoever you want to feature in your magazine. This needs to be done by a picture being taken on a hd camera and using the memory stick that you insert to the back of the computer. To neaten up the edges of the picture use the quick selection tool which will get rid of the background as well. To make the front cover look more like a magazine, you can add a headline, puff promotion, quotes, featured artist
  • 9. Operating DTP tools continued The quick selection tool is a specific tool that is used in adobe Photoshop when you have and image with a background that you may want remove, this can furthermore can be used in my project when I took a picture where the background decrease the quality of the photo, so in this case I used the quick selection tool to remove a brick wall background which I ended up with this photograph on the right. Also the airbrush tool was used in the photo above as well which is the photograph that I used for my double page spread. The air brush tool was used to make my photos smoother and softer round the edges which makes the photo look a better quality making it more professional.
  • 10. Step by step summary Double page spread. You will have to repeat the same process that you would of done with the front cover by setting up the canvas that you would like and add in your ruler lines to make sure that your layout is all in line. Also you can change the background if you would like to change it. Like you would have done for your front cove you need to add in your masthead, but not the strapline this is because this is only convention for the front cover. At the bottom of the page you can add page numbers to make it look like a double page spread in a magazine. Now that the basics are in place it will be time to add in your main image, you can do this by going to file, place and adding in the picture you want and also edit it to how you like it and until you think it looks up to standard. After adding in your picture it will be time to add in your text for your article. The first section of the text can be the quote this is because if you want to put text around the quote you can do this easier if the quote is already imputed. By adding in your quote in first, this can also allow you to add in the stand verse, when adding in the stand verse you will need to create a drop capital, you will do this by creating a text box and type in the first letter of the word that is going to start your text. And then you will need to go down the pen tool(15th) bar down and click around some of the sides of your letters and then carry on making a text box where you want your stand verse to go. And then after that type all of the rest of your text for the paragraph. Use the text tool bar to add in any text that you would like that may boost your magazines appearance, also another convention that you may want to add which will also boost your magazines appearance will be to change your text colour to any colour that you think looks the best. If you want to change the width or height of the writing in the magazine front cover, highlight over it and click ‘windows’ at the top of the screen and go to the characters. For puff promotions, repeat the steps of adding a shape then place the text on top, and follow the previous steps before if you feel like you need to change the colour of your writing or the length and width of your writing which will overall boost the appearance of your magazine.
  • 11. Step by step guide Front CoverFirstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so that everything that you are inputting is in line. • 12. Conclusion S Furthermore, in conclusion I have covered what equipment I am going to be using for my magazines photo shoot and the prices of the equipment that I have been using which could make my magazine look more professional due to the advanced equipment that I may be using. Additionally, I have a step by step in how I made my front cover and dps and how I went about doing the edits that I done on my front cover to teach someone who maybe doesn’t know how to do some of t.hese key skills.
  • 13.
  • 14. Deadlines to have my deadline for the launch of my magazine in the production plan in previous slides it is seen as Wednesday the 7th January 2017, which I would have come to the terms that I have met this deadline. The longest part of creating my magazine was doing the planning out for my magazine because I had very few ideas of how I was going start it and what genre I was going to do, who I was going to interview for example.
  • 15. Post Production Skills S Photoshop CS5.1 was the application that I used to create my front cover and double page spread. This is furthermore because the editing on Photoshop is advanced and therefore it will make my front cover and dps as professional as possible. I used advanced skills like pushing test past pictures which attracts the reader to want to read the interview because it looks more attractive and interesting for the reader of that specific magazine. Furthermore, in my dps I used a drop capita to attract the audience to want to start to read the cover stories/ interview as the big ‘H’ draws the reader to glance at this section of the dps. Also the eraser tool and vertical type tool are two specific tools that I used within Photoshop to create my front cover and dps which both of these were used. The horizontal type tool is used to create text boxes which allow you to type information on to your page but horizontal will be seen as a text box that goes further across than down. Where as vertical is seen as down more than across.
  • 16. Unit 13-planning and pitching- risk Assessment S Software risk Assessment- software risk Assessment can be seen as resizing and image but using the ‘shift key’ which will allow you to be able to make the picture smaller and by pressing the shift key it will keep the picture looking professional due to it still having its high quality, but furthermore if you do not do this will lead to a pixelated picture and it will be warps which makes the photo look unprofessional. This technique is when resizing images whilst still keeping the quality of the photo high and preventing the photo from becoming stretched and distorted. S Eyedropper Tool- To maintain consistency and professionalism throughout my magazine ‘$tackz’, on Photoshop their is a good and efficient tool called the ‘eyedropper tool’ that’s helps to choose the colour of a specific object that will be on the front cover, then you will have the chance to save this colour and be able to use it again which keeps the front cover professional, because you save the colour allowing you to use it again which will furthermore improve your front cover as you will have the same colours which will make it professional. Also when making a new object such as a textbox or a shape I can just click on the previous saved colour so I can use it again which is also quicker and more precise as the colour has been previously saved. This furthermore speeded up colour choosing for me as well as keeping it as professional as possible.
  • 17. Colour Colour in my front cover and my double page spread, it is essential that all the colours that I am using are exactly the same colour and even the same tone. This is essential because if you are trying to use the same colours in your front cover but some of the colours are darker than others this will therefore make the audience, or who ever is looking at my magazine this will make them think that it my magazine is unprofessional.
  • 18. Fonts S When I was picking fonts for my front cover and double page spread. I thought it through as much as I could, due to the fact that I wanted my font to link to the genre of my magazine for example if my genre was ‘HIP HOP’ then I would have had a smooth and chill font. Where as if it was ‘RAP’ then I would of used a font that was more graffiti type and also maybe a bold font. All of these font that I would have been looking up would be found in website called www.dafont.com. Which this website has a variety of different fonts. One of the fonts that i used for my magazine as 28 days later which is a bold and dark font which I used due to the fact that it symbolizes my genre as it is rap. And lastly for my other magazine which is $TACKZ I used a font called ‘Obelix pro’ this is because this font is bold and stands out to the audience which will attract them to want to read the rest of the magazine.
  • 19. Proof reading and sub editing S On my double paged spread, I made sure that I proof read my work to ensure that there was no errors. For example if there was a spelling mistake I would of noticed this when prof reading and changed to this to make sure that I get a good grade because if there are spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes this could furthermore lower my grade. For example when proof reading my work I found a spelling mistake of presentation as u can see in the bottom left which then I furthermore corrected to ensure that I I didn’t drop marks due to spelling mistakes.
  • 20. Safe working practices S When inserting pictures that have been created ands used in Photoshop the easiest way to remove the background in that specific image is going to the eraser rubber on the tool bar in photo-shoot and click on this tool and then it should allow you to remove parts of your background, the best way to do this is to hold down on the mouse and slowly click everywhere that you don’t want which this then should accurately remove the background. Also by removing a background this could furthermore make that page that your creating a little bit boring, so what I would do to cover up for this space is put some text boxes in which would take up more room, this is due to the fact that the background is missing which a background does take a big section up of a picture so to cover up from this will be to cover it up by adding several text boxes.
  • 21. Final changes to double page spread I have also added in magazine credits at the top of the double page spread to convey to the audience who has helped me to build up this page also I've added in credits to the interviewer of my double page spread and the photographer. I also added in a page number because in my magazine inspiration there was a page number, and in the process of creating this spread I was told to use my magazine inspiration to get small ideas and copy them over to make my double page spread look better and more professional.
  • 22. Changes For one improvement for my front cover magazine Also another improvement that I changed form my front cover was that my ‘$TACKZ’ headline was too far down the front cover behind the main image. So to change this I had to raise the masthead a little margin higher so that it look a little bit more profession so that the main image wasn’t covering the title. ‘On your front cover all your cover lines on the left and right hand side must line up, this is an essential correction because if all the cover lines don’t like up it makes the front cover look unprofessional and makes the front cover not look as good as it should do, so therefore I moved the cover lines so that it meets up with the ruler lines/margins which this now looks much better as you can see in the after picture. One of my changes production plan and my front cover, I had a different launch date from which I put on my front cover- 01/02/2017, when really the product will be getting launched on the 07/01/2017. Furthermore, this is an essential correction due to the fact that if I uploaded my magazine with the wrong launch date then this will make my business un- professional due to the fact that the magazine would have come out on that specific date.
  • 23. Witness statement The yellow HIGHLIGHT is something that I didn't’t do well in my pitch but furthermore I have corrected these to make my pitch better The green highlights is a section that I completed well. My witness statement conveys that I have completed the majority of tasks, but the yellow highlights over the writing can illustrate that I have corrections that I need to repeat. One of them being target audience- spending power which is must one individual slide that I need to complete to get rid of this correction.
  • 24. Conclusion S In LO3 and LO4 unit 14 to conclude it as a whole in this unit I have been talking about improvements from my front cover, the fonts that I have used in my work, also furthermore talking about the fonts that have been used in my front cover and my double page spread this is significant because I have used fonts that have a meaning and symbolizes something. For example my fonts are mysterious which could convey what my genre is which can be seen as ‘rap’. Also i have been talking about safe working practices and when inserting and enlarging and image you need to make sure that you hold the control button to prevent it from becoming warps which looks unprofessional to the target audience.
