outh India is known to travellers across the
globe for its distinctive culture and natural
beauty. The cities in this region are home to
marvellous architecture and an unending variety of
flora and fauna.
Bengaluru, dotted with beautiful gardens, architectural
marvels, and amazing ‘bazaars’, is aptly called
the Garden City of India. Further, with the highest
percentage of engineers on the planet and with 212 IT
companies, the city has also earned the title, Silicon
Valley of India.
After Bengaluru, Mysore is the second fastest growing
city in Karnataka. It is also the cultural capital of the
state. Known as the ‘Palace City of India’, Mysore
leaves the traveller spellbound with its quaint charm
and majestic palaces. After Taj Mahal, Mysore Palace
is the second most visited travel attraction of the
country and gets nearly 2.7 million visitors each year.
Finally, on our journey we went far from the bustling
cities to Ooty, which is one of the most prominent hill
stations in the state. Ooty has lush green landscapes
and tea plantations that are surrounded by the blue
Nilgiri hills, offering an unparalleled view. Also, Ooty
is known as the Scotland of the East.

OUR JOURNEY
7. Our cities are commercial hubs but on this vacation
to three beautiful cities of South India — Bengaluru,
Mysore, and Ooty — we got the chance to explore the
modern marvels of Bengaluru, the royal architecture of
Mysore and naturally scenic beauty of Ooty. What we
saw and experienced changed every bit of our thinking.
There was so much of beauty and greenery.
We started our wonderful trip and our first destination
was Bengaluru. We visited Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens.
It is one of the most beautiful gardens of India. The lawn
clock in the garden is one of its kinds in India. Next, we
went to Orient Mall and we enjoyed shopping.
The next day, we went to Wonderla. It is an amusement
park with both dry and water rides. All the rides were
amazing. After enjoying at Wonderla, we departed for
Mysore. We started our Mysore excursion with a visit to
the zoo. It is one of the biggest zoos in India. We all had
a great time there. We also visited Mysore Palace and
witnessed the splendid architecture of Wadiyar Dynasty.
Brindavan Gardens was another beautiful attraction of
Mysore.
Last on our itinerary was Ooty. It is a beautiful hill station.
We enjoyed DJ night at our hotel. It was one of the best
parts of our journey. Next morning, we went to The Tea
Factory and saw varieties of tea there. Then we went to
Ooty Lake. It was a sight to behold. Finally, we returned
to Bengaluru. Overall, it was an amazing journey and we
enjoyed a lot.

around 3113 feet above sea level. True to its name, the
Garden City has many exquisite gardens and parks.
Simultaneously, the largest numbers of information
and technology companies are located in Bengaluru
making it the Silicone Valley of India. The Forbes
magazine considers Bengaluru as one of “The Next
Decade’s Fastest-Growing Cities”.
Bengaluru is a true cosmopolitan where over
sixty percent of the city’s population are migrants.
Bengaluru is also famous for the culinary experiences
it offers including the wafting aroma of the filter coffee.
Also, the trails of trees everywhere and the amazing
weather make the city a truly wonderful experience.

Places to
VISIT
First, we visited Bengaluru. It is one of the most sought
after tourist destinations in South India. It is also one
of the most vibrant cities in India and there is a lot to
see and explore. We started our excursion with a visit
to the Vidhan Sabha. This was followed by a visit to the
Botanical Gardens. We saw many varieties of flora and
fauna. There we got to know about various species of
plants, which we had not even heard of before.
This extraordinary experience was followed by a number
of adventurous rides at Wonderla Amusement Park.
The water rides were also rejuvenating and no doubt
it was an unforgettable experience where we created
memories for life.
Among the many fun things to do in Bengaluru was
the tiring yet exciting activity of shopping! Shopping
becomes a must when we travel to a new place and
on top of that, if the place is like Bengaluru then one
cannot resist to shop to the heart’s content. Not only
is the city famous for its local markets but it also has a
number of swanky malls. At one of the malls, there was
a huge crowd, but we managed to buy a few souvenirs
for our families and friends. Overall, Bengaluru is a
fantastic place to visit, and it gives you the best of both,
the historical architecture and the modern amenities. It
definitely has something for everyone.

ysore or Mysuru is also known as the City
of Palaces. It is the third most populous city
in the state of Karnataka. It is the cultural
capital of the state and has also been coined as the
‘Cleanest City of India’. Mysore is around 145 kms
from Bengaluru and the city covers an area of 152 km2
.
Mysore is famous for its marvellous architecture and
palaces. Mysore Palace was the official residence
of the royal family — descendants of the Wadiyar
Dynasty. The palace is built of stone and its domes
are made of marble. It is a blend of Hindu, Mughal, and
Gothic styles of architecture.
Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens or Mysore
Zoo was established in 1892. Named after the founder,
Maharaja Shri Chamarajendra Wadiyar, the zoo was
initially known as Palace Zoo. Today, it is one of the
biggest and oldest zoos in India. It is home to a variety
of animals that have been brought from various parts
of the world. The other location that Mysore offers for
enjoying its lush greenery is the Brindavan Gardens
— built across the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam — and it
is a must visit place in Mysore. The most popular
attraction of the place is the magical fountain show
scheduled in the evenings.
Mysore is blessed with ample natural beauty and the
architectural marvels of the place add to its charm.

Mysore is one of the cleanest cities of India. It is the third
largest and the second most populous city of Karnatka.
During our trip, we got the opportunity to explore this
beautiful place as it has a lot to offer. Our first destination
was St. Philomena’s Church. Famous for being one
of the largest churches in India, this majestic church
captivates everyone with its architectural excellence.
It also boasts of being the second largest church in
Asia. People were offering prayers and the entire aura
of the place was very peaceful. We learnt to respect all
religions.
Next we went to the Mysore Zoo. It is one of the oldest
and the largest zoos in India. The place was very
crowded and we saw many wild animals there. We
learnt that many endangered species are brought here
for conservation and protection. We also went to see
the beautiful Mysore Palace. It was last renovated in
1921. It is one of the most visited tourist locations of
India. Brindavan Gardens is also a beautiful place. We
saw variety of plants and colourful flowers over there.
Mysore is not only known for its royal heritage,
magnificent buildings and monuments but also for
sweets, sandalwood, and silk. It is one of south India’s
famous tourist destinations.

O
oty or Udhagamandalam, known as the
Scotland of the East, is a beautiful city nestled
in the Nilgiri Hills in Tamil Nadu. It is a very
important tourist destination and home to some of the
most breathtaking tea estates in India.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway provides a delightful
option to reach Ooty. The Nilgiri Mountain Toy Train
has a metre-gauge track. The trains run at an average
speed of 10 kmph. This allows tourists to enjoy the
picturesque beauty of the place at a mellow pace. This
train network was declared a UNESCO World Heritage
Site in 2015.
The weather in Ooty is pleasant throughout the year.
With each changing season, the city shows a different
shade of its beauty making it a joy to photograph.
Other than being a famous tourist destination for
homemade chocolates, Ooty is a haven for tea lovers.
The Dodabetta Tea Museum offers splendid insights
into the processing of tea leaves and tea-making
methods. The view of lush green tea gardens makes
the experience more refreshing and rejuvenating.
Another exciting place to visit is the Wax World
Museum which houses life size statues of the legends
of India.

This trip was really awesome as we enjoyed a lot,
especially in Ooty. It is one of the most beautiful hill
stations of India. Before reaching the place, we assumed
the weather to be cold but it was very pleasant instead.
We started our excursion from the tea factory and we got
to know where our morning cup of tea comes from.
One of the best things to do in Ooty is to enjoy the toy
train ride. We got the opportunity to travel in the iconic
toy train for an hour and reached Coonoor. It was a scenic
hilly ride and we had a wonderful experience.
The next highlight of the city was the Ooty Lake complex;
we went to Horror House, Mirror Maze and the Freely
Jungle, which was real fun. The view of the mountains
and valleys was really refreshing. The ‘Queen of Hills’ or
Ooty offered unforgettable views of lush green hills and
tea gardens. The scenic beauty was a treat to our senses.
We also participated in various team activities and learnt
the importance of working in teams.
The most interesting part of our journey was the DJ Night
when we danced and sat around the bonfire and our
Journey Mentor, Sagar Sir was telling horror stories to us.
The food served by the hotel was very good. We had also
been to a similar place called Dalhousie but this trip gave
us memories which we will cherish forever. Our EdTerra
Journey Mentors, Sagar Sir and Ankita Ma’am were very
cooperative and supported us throughout the journey.
Thanks to EdTerra for planning this amazing trip for us.

engaluru has many green patches. Lal Bagh
Botanical Gardens are the lungs of the city. The
Gardens provide the perfect blend of nature
and history. They have a wide variety of exotic and
tropical plants and even a tree fossil which is nearly
20 million years old.
Interestingly, we get a similar glimpse of combination
of history and biological diversity at the Mysore Zoo.
The zoo is over 125 years old and houses around
1450 species of animals and birds, which have been
brought over from more than 40 other countries. The
zoo gets 2 million visitors from all corners of the world
every year.
The other globally renowned attraction in Mysore
is Brindavan Gardens. The lush spreads of grass,
shrubs, trees, and wide variety of flowers, make the
place a treat for the senses. Brindavan Gardens is also
home to one of the largest terrace gardens of India.
Lastly, we head to Ooty. The botanical garden in Ooty
is a paradise for nature lovers. It has a variety of herbal,
bonsai, and flowering plants along with fruit trees.
They have a section dedicated solely to medicinal
plants as well. Each section of the garden is trimmed
beautifully to present a delightful sight.

The diverse flora and fauna of these three beautiful cities
of South India namely, Bengaluru, Mysore, and Ooty,
is spoken of famously. First, we went to the Botanical
Gardens in Bengaluru. It is also known as ‘Lal Bagh’.
There are trees that age between 20 to 70 years. All kinds
of flora and fauna can be seen here and the best part was
the chirping of birds. It was really invigorating.
Our next most memorable place was the Mysore Zoo; it is
one of the largest and oldest zoos in India. We saw many
amazing and rare animals which we had never seen before
on this excursion. This zoo is also known for its tigers. It is
also said to be one of the main centres of India which has
seen growth in the population of tigers. Many international
animals are also brought here for conservation. We also
saw few exotic animals and it was really impressive to
see how the authorities are taking care of them. This was
followed by a visit to the Brindavan Gardens. It is one of
the most beautiful gardens that we have ever seen. The
garden has not only been meticulously laid out but also
has beautiful lawns and plants. Moreover, the variety of
flowers in the garden attracts number of tourists. The
musical fountain show is another attraction of the place.

We enjoyed a lot in Bengaluru and Mysore but the tea-
carpeted hills of Ooty took our breath away. The lush
greenery sprawled in thousands of acres and the aroma
of the fresh tea leaves made us fall in love with the
place. We enjoyed a lot during this trip with our amazing
friends, helpful teachers, and supportive guides. This
trip was not only educational but adventurous too.
