Wind Power
BY: BRANDON NHAN
What is it used for?
 Wind power is used to make electricity for
everyday objects. It can run anything that
relies on electricity. Wind power can
generate electricity for batteries, homes,
farms, buildings, and much more. Wind
power is made by using windmills
generating the energy. Wind power is
worldwide.
Is this source Renewable?
Wind power is definitely renewable. The
way it works is when the wind turns the
large turbine blades, which spins a
generator shaft and that produces
electricity. The only time it will run out is
when the Earth is no more and the air
cannot move. Another source of wind is
the Sun. Wind will always be the top
energy source.
What are the costs to this source of energy?
 Building windmill fields will cost
a fortune just for one field.
Imagine having at least 10 in a
province. A single wind turbine
scales from 1.3 million to 2.3
million. As well of all the
construction is going to be
used that can pollute the
world. Another cost will be all
the space it takes up. No
homes can be built there for
the people that need homes.
In addition the benefit to this
though is that we will save tons
of energy in our world and
make it a clean planet.
Is it good or bad?
Are there positive
aspects to it?
 A wind turbine is good in
almost all ways. All it needs to
work is the natural wind to
spin it around. It is also clean
when it is functional and can
create masses of energy in a
single day or week. Wind
turbines have two looks; a
wooden small one by itself
and a great huge white one
in a field with others. Wind
turbines are excellent tools.
Are there negative
aspects to it?
 The turbine has little to no
negative aspects. It does
create one pollution and is
sound pollution. People living
near have noisy sounds all
day because of the blades
spinning. It takes up a lot of
land (mostly country side).
These are two bad things
about the wind power.
How does a wind turbine work?
 Electricity is made when the
blades spin from the wind. Next
is the gear box speeds the
generating process faster. After
the electricity is generated it is
brought down to the grid
where it can be stored or used
right away. The storage acts as
if it were a huge battery sitting
in a box waiting to be used. Or
it is used right away like to
power the stove, or turn the
lights on.
Can its energy be stored for later
usage?
 The storage of wind energy is
possible. When it is sent to the
grid it is placed into huge
battery like box where is kept
until it is released to power
something or chipped off into
batteries. Afterward being
used by people and can
power battery using machines.
Or it can be stored for years
before being used. This proves
the energy can be stored.
Does it create and
waste-by-products?
Wind energy does not create any
useless nor harmful things. All the
things it makes is either used in a
proper way or harmful to people
nearby. This source has no waste-
by-products within itself.
Should it be widely used?
 This energy should be
widely uses if people
were rich enough to
have a windmill near
their house.
Furthermore the
space that is required
in this energy source
for one is at least the
size of a house.
