3. Research
The good thing about gathering research before making the product is that it
allowed me to look at already existing products and analyse techniques that they
have used and that I could add into my own project. It also allowed me to see the
layout that magazines normally use for there covers and actual content for
example the PlayStation 4 magazine and how they added a red bar at the top of
their page and how they used the image to fit in well to their theme and text.. It
also allowed me to know that magazines normally include a give away on the
cover. They also use the size of the font and colour of the text to make certain
words stand out, such as or the whole project the words are in size 12 but make
thing stand out I used size 14 and the writing was in red so make a word stand out
I also used the colour blue. The bad thing about doing the research was that I was
limited to the amount of space that I had so I could expand about a certain point
and say how and why I might use that desired idea. If I made the research again I
could used a different website so that I had more room so I could write more
about the magazine and expand about how I will use it in my project. By finding
out about conventions this had given me an idea to use the size and colour of the
font to make certain parts of the magazine stand out more and appeal more to
the reader. Also by using buzz words, such as ‘exclusive’ It makes the point sound
better than it is and draws attention to it. I also wrote an audience profile which
helped me think about who I wanted to aim the magazine at. This made me
conscious of what I could include so that I still aimed it at the audience and so
that it would still appeal to them. I could have also done more primary research as
I have done a lot of secondary research.
4. Planning
The good thing about gathering research before making the product is that it allowed
me to look at already existing products and analyse techniques that they have used and
that I could add into my own project. It also allowed me to see the layout that

5. Time Management
I feel that for the project I have managed my time well. I made a time
management sheet, which is shown below, for me to follow to that I know what to
do on each day. This also made me work to a deadline to help me stay focussed
on what I need to do and when. By using the time management sheet It also
made me think about the resources that I needed and where I was going to get
them from. Because of this chosen method I have been able to finish my project a
head of time which will give me more time to evaluate and go back and improve
on part of the project which are weaker than others. I don’t think I needed any
extra time for the project and feel that the management has helped me to be a
head of time. If I did have more time to produce the work I might put more stages
into the management so that I could have
more detail to the cover and content and
use more conventions/ techniques. The
only problem with this time management
method is that if you struggle to stick to
the time then you might fall behind and
be late to finishing or have to rush parts
and not have it as well made as it could
have been.
6. Technical Qualities- cover
Both of the magazines
state what console it Is
aimed at.
Clear title
Includes a
main figure
to focus on
Changes
colour to
show
importance
Uses the
same colour
to link things
together.
Tells the reader a
little bit about the
magazine
Their magazine includes a logo
which show the make of the
company whom this magazine
belongs to. By using a logo it
makes the magazine have a
symbol which is easily
recognisable.
My magazine has
included a issue
number. This will allow
the reader/collector to
know when it was
released.
7. Technical Qualities- page layout
Both magazines have a
main title which is
clearly shown.
They both include images
to be able to link to and
show what the topic will
be about.
My magazine focusses
about one topic so that I
was able to write more
about It and in more detail.
My magazine has also
used background for
the writing so that it
stands out more
Their magazine is about different
games meaning they can write
about more things but in less detail
They have only used a
text box background on
a few paragraphs to
make them stand out
more.
8. Aesthetic Qualities-cover
I think that my cover looks good and follows to the
style of how I wanted it. I think that it was a
creative way to set it out as the image of
Spiderman is not a usual one where he is
swinging, instead he isn’t facing the camera but is
still easily recognised by his symbolic Spiderman
logo. I also think that the background is creative as
originally It wasn’t blurred, but to make the
Spiderman stand out more I wanted to blur the
background to make the spider suit look like the
main focus. I think that changing the sizing and
colours of fonts helps certain words stand out
more such as ‘Spider-Man’ and the buzz word
‘Exclusive’. I do feel that the colour of each text
background could have been a darker shade as
they stand out a lot and don’t 100% fit into the
cover. I have could have improved this by using a
darker colour which fits into the background
better.
9. Aesthetic Qualities- page layout
With the double page spread, I think that it both looks good and creative. I like how I
used a background for the text boxes to help them stand out more and to add more
detail to the page. I also like how I used the colours from the Spiderman suit for the
writing and the backgrounds. I did this as it would fit in well together and it would suit
the theme of Spiderman. I also like how the title links across two pages to show that
they are both about the same subject. I feel that the colours that I have used all go
together well and they don’t
clash. I could have changed the
layout of some of the images so
that I could have made the
magazine look clearer. I also
made sure that on both sides
the distance from the picture to
the edge of the page was the
same so that it was symmetrical
and didn’t look out of place.
Finally, I used a pull quote to
help separate the text to help
that important part stand out
more.
10. Audience Appeal- cover
My target audience was older teens from the age of
16 to 21 as that is the age category that are most
likely going to read about games. I feel like I have
successfully appealed my product to the target
audience. I have done that mainly by the colour and
the content that I have advertised. By adding a
darker background it will look less childish and will
attract the older audience. I feel that I have also
been able to successfully appeal to the audience by
advertising a give away as that will interest the
reader to want to try win the prize. By using a
memorable character such as Spider-Man, the
audience will be drawn towards this magazine and
be more interested. Finally, I feel that the whole
colour combination of the darker background
colours and the darker blue/red fit together well as
they are from the suit, this makes the cover look a
lot more professional and may want make the
audience be interested to read it.
11. Audience Appeal-page layout
With the double page layout it was harder to aim It at the target audience. This is
because I changed the idea for the page layout. With the original idea I could have
used darker colours to suit it for a older audience. With the new design I used the
same colours that have been used for the Spider-Man suit. I feel that this will also
target the audience was the shades of the colours are kind of dark and are not to
bright/ neon. I also feel that the layout of how I have placed the images and the text
box to image ratio make it not
look to childish and more
grown up. I think that because
I have also added a
background behind the writing
it makes it look more
professional for the audience.
I have also tried to have a
good balance of text to image
ratio so that both people
whom don’t like reading and
people whom like reading can
all enjoy it.
13. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
I liked that for the cover he has taken the main image
himself and taken time to get rid of the background
and use an image that suits the page better.
• What improvements could have been made
to the product?
I feel that he could have added more convention parts
on the front cover, such as saying more ‘Exclusive’
interviews to make the reader more fascinated and to
tell the reader more about what the magazine will
actually involve.
14. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
I am Impressed that he has used the same colour from
the Spider-Man suit for the background and for the
content of the page. I feel that this helped the colours
fit in and made the page look more smooth
• What improvements could have been made
to the product?
Although, to make the colours on the cover fit in better,
he colour have used a darker set of colours as he is
using a dark background.
15. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
I like that he has involved good information about the
chosen topic. He has also successfully made his work
look like a real magazine and has made it well for the
audience.
• What improvements could have been made
to the product?
He could have tried to change the colour shade on the
cover as the more forward colours stand out to much
and don’t fit in 100%
16. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree that I have added more buzz words on the cover as I has
only used one. I also agree that the idea change did go well as I
knew more about that subject that the original. Finally, I agree
that I could have used a darker shades of the colours on the
front cover so that it look more real/professional.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
I disagree that I didn’t put enough buzz words in. I feel that I
could have added more but there was a sufficient amount to
draw the reader in and be interested in the content of the
magazine. I also partially disagree that the colours have
smoothly fitted in as they do stand out and are a little to neon,
hence why I they should be darker
17. Peer Feedback Summary
If I made this project again I would add a few extra things and do
other parts differently. Firstly I would try stick to the plan as I
wasted some time trying to think of a new idea, this meant that I
had to rush the double page a little. There are a few things about
the cover that I would have differently. For starters I would use a
darker shade of the colours shown, this is because the background
is also dark and the text boxes stand out too much and don’t fit in
well, this also makes it look less natural and not like a real
magazine. Normally with magazines they never use neon colours
as they standout to much, with my magazine cover the colours
look a little neon. I would also increase the size of the Spider-Man
suit as he is the main focussed character. Finally for the front cover
I would try add a few more buzz words just to make certain parts
stand out more and attract the reader.
