This document discusses the findings of an evaluation of the Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) program in the UK. The evaluation compared outcomes for 90 families involved in FDAC to 101 comparison families in ordinary family courts. - So how did the families fare at the end of the proceedings? In line with its objectives, FDAC achieved a higher rate of SMC Note for fathers there was a lot of missing information on SMC Comment here that the FDAC cases had more problematic substance misuse profiles Difference in rates of reunification per se not significant, although higher proportion of reunifications in FDAC Comment here about more DV Placement with alternative permanent carers – case duration was the proxy measure of speed to alternative permanent placement , from start to end of proceedings. Important to remember that FDAC set up before suggestion of 26 week timescale, and that period we were looking at here was cases starting prior to recommendations of FJR Nonetheless – it had been hoped that FDAC would lead to quicker final decisions when children could not return home, and in fact this was not achieved – FDAC took about the same length of time as ordinary proceedings We haven’t tracked recent cases – we come back to issue of timescales at end
