Business Problem
           Service Providers are losing revenue to Over-The-
            Top delivery
           Cloud Computing distributes resources to discrete
            parts of the network
           Bandwidth becomes a commodity
           Can resources of Network, Compute & Storage be
            linked?
           Current Carriers Operational Support Systems are
            designed for internal use and lack the automation
            needed for third party on-demand provisioning.
           To trade network resources standards for “Tradable
            Units” and “Network Delivery” need to be defined.

Solution
               Data Centres aggregate lots of demand to the same location – the
                “unshared” part of the network becomes very small (non existent for
                DCs employing virtualisation).
                   Data Centres have introduced on-demand services which creates a
                     compelling use case for “on-demand” bandwidth.
               Enterprise Cloud Services need reliable network connectivity to data
                centers, carriers are best positioned to offer this through simple on-
                demand provisioning APIs
               Intune technology makes the optical transponder & switching very
                flexible – location on an Intune ring is virtually irrelevant.
               Amartus platform enables fully automated service management & rapid
                integration across operator networks
               Use financial instruments to trade bandwidth contracts:
                   Futures Contracts for Calendar Based Events
                   Spot Networks to meet immediate demand
                   Infrastructure providers can use income from futures contract to
                     fund investment

           Unit of trade should also be standardised.

Solution  Data Centres aggregate lots of demand to the same location – the “unshared” part of the network becomes very small (non existent for DCs employing virtualisation).  Data Centres have introduced on-demand services which creates a compelling use case for “on-demand” bandwidth.  Enterprise Cloud Services need reliable network connectivity to data centers, carriers are best positioned to offer this through simple on- demand provisioning APIs  Intune technology makes the optical transponder & switching very flexible – location on an Intune ring is virtually irrelevant.  Amartus platform enables fully automated service management & rapid integration across operator networks  Use financial instruments to trade bandwidth contracts:  Futures Contracts for Calendar Based Events  Spot Networks to meet immediate demand  Infrastructure providers can use income from futures contract to fund investment © 2011 TeleManagement Forum | 3 www.tmforum.org v2011.1
