The University of Cologne organized an international summer school from July 13-31, 2015 on the theme of "Sustainable City Growth" with the support of Santander Universities. Thirty students from 13 countries participated in the program to exchange ideas with scientists, companies, NGOs and groups about environmental and climate concepts related to topics like public green space, waste management and public transportation. Santander is proud to support the Cologne Summer School again as it promotes international exchange between universities. Santander Universities has provided about 32,000 scholarships worldwide through its 1,200 university partnerships.

Summer School performs Environment Studies about the theme
Thirty Students from 13 countries join up for an exchange of experiences
Mönchengladbach, 14th July 2015. The University of Cologne organizes with the support of
Santander Universitäten an international Summer School from 13th to 31th of July 2015
with the theme „Sustainable City growth“. „An worldwide exciting just as if controversial
theme,“ explained Professor Dr. K. W. Junker, leader of the international master course
environmental sciences and responsible project manager, this year’s core theme.
For three weeks thirty students from international partner universities of the University of
Cologne, and partners too of Banco Santander through its corporate area Santander
Universidades, will exchange together with scientists, companies, NGOs and action groups
about environment- and climate concepts.
“The concentration on the main themes public green space, waste management and public
transportation makes the program to an very interesting experience for the young
international audience, who especially come from big cities like Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City,
Shanghai, Tokyo or Cape Town“, remarks Victoria Busch, project coordinator Cologne
Summer Schools.
In the frame of an formal opening, Pedro de Elejabeitia, Board member of Santander
Consumer Bank Germany, underlined the special meaning of the Summer School:
“Santander is proud, to support the Cologne Summer School again“. It corresponds with the
comprehension and the philosophy of the bank to sustainably promote the international
exchange of the university. Therefore the Summer School in Cologne is an outstanding
example. “The continuous exchange between students and scientists sustainably invigorates
the worldwide network of about 1 200 with Santander cooperating universities and research
establishments“, explains Pedro de Elejabeitia. So Banco Santander in the past year has fund
through the corporate area Santander Universidades, in Germany under the name of
Santander Universitäten, about 32.000 scholarships worldwide.

Bremen, the Goethe-University Frankfurt, the Georg-August-University Göttingen, the
