3. Phases of NISO KBART automation standards
Phase 1 focused on:
• Access of content
• Holdings available by API
Phase 2 could focus on:
• Library-specific subscriptions and ongoing purchases
• Hybrid collections
• Content types beyond e-journal and e-book
• Title history – multi-journal coverage
5. NISO Publishes Final Recommended Practices
• Phase 1 is complete
• NISO has published the final recommended practices
• Recommendation can be found here:
https://www.niso.org/standards-committees/kbart/kbart-automation
6. Highlights of KBART Phase 1 standards
• APIs require libraries to obtain tokens for implementation.
The vendor can’t just add/request a library without a library
requesting a token
• Access supports Link Resolvers and AtoZ list perfectly
8. Plans for phase 2
• KBART automation relies heavily on KBART recommended
practices
• Several of the popular requests for phase 2 require changes to
the recommended practices from KBART
• Hybrid OA collections
• Title history
• More content types being supported
9. Challenges that could be addressed in phase 2
• Needs to have more of an ERM (Electronic Resource
Management) focus
• Expand to all content types supported by a knowledge base
• How a title is purchased
• Hybrid collections (i.e., knowing when Open Access is involved)
• Title history
I think this requires some clarifying language to differentiate between these two items:
Each provider’s process is different
Each vendor’s process is different (but will apply to all providers)
-----------------------------------------
Holdings feeds are associated to All Journals and All Ebooks collections
Ensuring the knowledge base has the full collection of All Journals and All Ebooks

KBART automation will work closely with KBART standing group as we move into phase 2.
Which collection is my collection?
Remove complexities of finding the right collection to enable
Names don’t always match invoice to knowledge base

Why do my links not work?
Title purchase history
Library owns the past 50 years that covers 3 title and ISSN changes
We need to represent all 3 titles and ISSNs
Include appropriate title coverage per title and ISSN vs one title full with all 50 years
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To correctly report coverage gaps on journal titles
They owned the first 10 years of title and ISSN
They own the last 10 years of 3rd title and ISSN
