Introduction. We have been busy over the last term visiting all of our feeder schools to meet with our new students as well as the Year 6 teachers. We have gathered lots of information about them. We also realises that this can be a stressful time for parents- new school, new staff and worries and concerns about hos your child will do. Firstly, please be assured that we understand all of this and are confident that your child will settle into life at BSCS very quickly- new friends will be made, new experiences discussed around the tea table and by the end of the first term, everything will feel ok. I want to talk to you all about the role that the SST have in the school- many of you will be more familiar with a HOY system in a secondary school- here at BSCS, we have the SST who oversee that role plus other duties and responsibilities within the school- one of those being transition.
Your child’s tutor will see your child every morning and will be their first and main source of support and guidance if they require any. Tutors in Year 7 are experienced tutors who have overseen Year 7 students before and are skilled and knowledgeable about the issues that may arise for students.
Helping students to get to know each other is the focus for their Personalised Curriculum lessons during T1 and T2. Every student will be asked to prepare a short presentation all about themselves . This could be presented as a simple scrapbook, PowerPoint presentation or creative display.
Following our visits out to Primary schools, we will be identifying a small group of students who may benefit from spending a few days in school to part in this. The 3 days will be spent having fun but with a focus on getting to know staff earlier, finding out more useful information about the school, routines and expectations and other social skills and team work. If you really feel that you would like your child to take part, please contact CTa to discuss this further.
