Isaac Newton discovered gravity, but there are some major spiritual precepts contained in this profound discovery starting with the fact that the physics of gravity and God have more than one thing in common. First both gravity and God are invisible forces.

The Physics of Gravity

Listening to Seth Godin talk about Isaac Newton, he made some interesting
comments which have some powerful implications with respect to faith and
the force we now call gravity.1
The physics of gravity is one of the primary laws that hold together the
entire universe. Gravity is the linchpin of the solar system. It keeps us on
the ground, it keeps our planet going around the sun, it keeps our sun going
around the Milky Way, and the Milky Way going around the universe.
Take gravity out of the equation and everything stops working.
Isaac Newton, in addition to being credited with
discovering gravity, also invented calculus and the
refracting telescope, but his greatest discovery is
gravity.
The fact that he discovered gravity didn’t mean it
wasn’t working until he discovered it – but rather he
was the one to realize that it existed and affected
everything. Everything!
First: In 1687, English mathematician Sir Isaac Newton published Principia,
which put forth the theory, which we now know as fact, for the existence
of gravity. Gravity was defined as the natural phenomenon in which objects
with mass attract one another.
Second: In the process, Newton also discovered something very profound
about gravity – it not only was responsible for the apple falling from the
tree, but he also noticed that the same apple was precisely the same size as
the moon. This discovery put forth the principle that as the object gets
further away, it appears to become smaller in relation to another object
that is closer.

Newton saw God as the master creator whose existence could not be denied in the face of the grandeur of
all creation. Newton wrote more on religion than he did on natural science.

Third: Newton also discovered another element governing the law of
gravity: that the force or pull of gravity decreased as the distance between
the objects increased.
Fourth: More than any other thing, his greatest contribution came to us not
simply because of his inventions, but because he intentionally thought to
do something no one had ever done before him: he named something,
gravity.
Perhaps Newton’s greatest contribution to science was the word gravity. It
was the articulation of something that was already there, but was given a
name, a reference point, and the genesis of an entire glossary surrounding
the field that we now call Physics.
By naming gravity, Newton created a gateway to begin to map, chart and
understand gravity. Language is the first step to understanding after
discovery.
We can’t see gravity, but because we have given it a name, it gives us an
ability to successfully cooperate with its laws and power.
I remember some years ago something the Lord showed me: Whenever the
Lord is about to give you something new or some new territory, he will give
you a new language.
Language is prescient to possessing anything.
Our words give us access to new realms.

The Theology of Gravity
So here are the applications from the theology behind gravity:
First: Gravity or The Law of Invisible Power
Gravity represents another invisible power – which also holds all things
together. Actually, Gravity’s invisibility appears to be greater than the
wind, since when the wind blows, it often carries objects in it. Also consider
that you have never seen a gravity cloud or storm.
From another standpoint, Gravity represents the superiority of the invisible
over the visible.
Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express
image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his
power
Second: The Law of Proportionality or Focus
As an object gets further away it appears to become smaller, as in Newton’s
case of the apple and the moon.
Application: Proportionally, as we draw closer or further away from God –
He ‘appears’ to either get bigger or smaller. As we become more aware of
God and seek Him, his size grows. Moses initially had a superficial
arrangement with the Lord: he’s watch Jethro’s sheep next to the mountain
that God would stay for forty years.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for
he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
How big your God is or isn’t may be proportional to your proximity to Him.
Whatever you chose to focus on in your life will become larger.
Third: The Law of Attraction: Intimacy Determines Outcome

In the same way that the force or pull of gravity decreases with the increase
of distance, so also does the pull or force of God over the thoughts, actions
and understanding change in relation to our closeness.
Jam 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
Fourth: More than any other contribution of Newton to science was to
name gravity. The name Gravity gave it a reality.
It is considered his most important legacy because it gave us a language
whereby we could master and work within the mechanics of Gravity.
In the same way as Newton gave us the power over gravity by naming it,
God, in sending us His Son, Jesus, and then Jesus giving us His name, also
gave us power over the power of sin, the deceit of riches and hell, and
divine access to heaven.
Newton understood that new language preceded understanding, in the way
that scripture teaches that new language precedes new territory.
I have often shared my story, when working on the floor of the NYSE, about
a Buddhist who worked right next to me.
Whenever something went wrong, he would yell out an explicative and
punctuate it with a “God damn it!”
I turned to him one day and just told him, “Hey, Mack – do me a favor – if
you have to curse – use your own god’s name, not mine!”
He looked at me and laughed, since we were friends, and then tried it.
“Buddha damn it!”
But it didn’t work.
I told him, “Try Confucius.”
“Confucius damn it!”
But that didn’t work either.
“How about Mohammad?”
“Mohammad damn it!”

But nothing had any power or punch.
Then I remarked: “ I guess you just proved which one really has the
power.”
We have been given a name; we have been given the choice of proximity;
we can actually draw near to God; and as we draw near to God, His power,
presence and ‘gravity’ will increase in our lives.
We covered the fact that Newton’s discovery of gravity didn’t mean it
wasn’t working until he discovered it – but rather he was the one to make
us all aware that it existed and affected everything. Everything!
In the same way that Gravity operates whether we are aware of it or not,
the same holds true for God. God exits whether you are a shepherd
herding sheep next to a mountain, or a stock broker next to a church. He’s
there: His size, His ‘gravitational’ pull and knowing His name involves us;
but He gives us things like ‘gravity’ as road signs to point us to Him.
I am convinced that Mack’s discovery provides a simple but convincing
litmus test as to the power of the name of God.
If through his studies, Isaac Newton saw that God was the master creator
whose existence could not be denied or ignored, it’s not surprising that
Newton would write more on religion than he did on natural science.
