2. WHAT IS SHAREPOINT?
“a browser-based collaboration and document management platform
from Microsoft. It can be used to host web sites that access shared
workspaces and documents, as well as specialized applications like
wikis and blogs from a browser”

1. Latest version Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007); we are using 2003
version
2. Design is done using Microsoft FrontPage
3. End-user functionality includes document management libraries, workflows, to-do lists,
alerts and discussion boards, which are exposed as web parts to be embedded into
SharePoint pages

3. WHY ARE WE USING SHAREPOINT?
Project sponsor: Saïd Business School; Project synopsis:
The School currently operates two Intranets (one on each site) and both are heavily out of date and relatively unused. As the School grows and
becomes for process oriented the need for a tractable and functional Intranet becomes more important.
The Intranet needs to satisfy some important demands:
be simple to use
be extensible
have defined segments of information
contain a directory of staff
have an identity and consistent design
reflect the structure of the organisation
potentially deliver portal technology and certainly not become a barrier to portal technology
allow diverse permissioning
encourage less e-mail usage
empower content providers and encourage all School members to submit content
be the first location that SBS members look for information
The Intranet needs to encompass all facets of the School population and it is likely that there will be two phases:
•administration staff
courses and students
