Precision Agriculture in Olives, Fruits, Grapes (Pilot A1.1)
THE CHALLENGE
• Increasing global population (~9 billion by 2050) will require a 70%
increase in food production,
• Farmers strive to maintain high yields while facing severe challenges
(e.g. increased pest resistance, climate change),
• Agro-environmental sustainability is trending across policy makers.
Produce more with less is the new motto!,
• High pressure is placed on Greek farmers which are in their majority
small-holders with annual turnover <8.000€,
• Small-hold farmers are reluctant towards new tech solutions. Inability to
reach economies of scale and limited Return-On-Investment

THE BUSINESS MODEL
• Innovative business model established as part of gaiasense
(www.gaiasense.gr) Smart Farming System by
NEUROPUBLIC and GAIA EPICHEIREIN,
• Dedicated to support small-hold farmers,
• No upfront investments of any kind by the farmers,
• Subscription fee proportionate to a parcel’s size and crop
type,
• Clear face to the market and great liaison to the end-user
communities, as 71 Greek agricultural cooperatives are
shareholders of GAIA EPICHEIREIN
