2. Areas of Automation in Libraries
Library services are users’ oriented,
library is set up to meet information needs
of its clientele in the most comfortable
means. Today’s library users have soft
touch for electronic technology devices
and information on that format, thus,
librarians imbibed use of modern
technology in processing the information
and making it accessible and available.
3. ICT devices in Libraries
RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification and Devices)
machines, Close Cycle Television,
computer system, Camera,
scanner, smart television, social
media(online group), integrated
library software, barcode
machine, mobile devices (ipad,
tablets, smart phones), electronic
mail
4. ICT devices in Libraries
Online Public Area Networks,
web-PAC, library website, e-
mail alerts, projectors/smart
board, electronic databases,
CD-ROM Technology, Flash
Drives, smart photocopy
machine, Optical Character
Recognition (OCR) Device

This section is saddled with the
responsibilities of adding new
collections to library holdings through
all methods of acquisition: purchases,
gifts, donations, exchange, bequeath
and legal deposits.

Section
This section is vested with the
responsibilities of organizing library
collections. It ascribes class mark,
access points and call number base
on content/subject orientation of the
collections. Academic libraries adopt
Library of Congress Classification
Scheme (LCCS) while school libraries
use Dewey Decimal Classification
(DDC).

12. Serial Section
This is a unique section of a library; it is a
library within a library because all activities
in other sections (acquisition, cataloguing,
preservation, circulation, reference etc) of
a library are being carried out in this
section too. Serial section a a library deals
with management of serial collections
such as journals, periodicals, ephemerals
(magazines, newspapers, institutions
publications, order of programmes,
inaugural lecture materials etc).
13. Functions of Serial Section
◦ Managing library serial collections
