8. Land of beautiful horses and fairy
chimneys
Not a city or town but an attraction. It is
created by 3 Anatolian provinces –
Nevsehir, Keyseri and Nigde.
Colour coded – Red Tour (North
Cappadocia) & Green Tour (South
Cappadocia
The name of the region is created by the
erosion of the soft layers formed by the
lava & ashes ashes sprayed by the
volcanic mountains of
Erciyes, Hasandağ and Güllüdağ, and
shaped by rain, wind, and ice for millions
of years.
Cappadocia’s landscape was formed by
volcanic erosion. Thick ash solidified into
a soft rock, called tuff, and over time the
tuff rocks eroded with wind and water,
creating the iconic fairy chimneys we see
today.
9. FACT
• There are a number of underground cities in Cappadocia, some
connected by a network of tunnels. These subterranean
settlements were made possible thanks to the pliability of the
soft rock. Many are open to visitors, however, a lot of the land in
the area is private property.
• There are as many as 600 churches carved from the soft
Cappadocian rock, and possibly many more that have not yet
been discovered. These churches date back to Medieval times
and display beautiful painted frescoes, which have retained an
amazing amount of color and detail over the centuries though
some painted figures have had their eyes scratched out by
superstitious locals afraid of the Evil Eye.
10. FACT ABOUT
YOUR VISIT
• The region of Cappadocia
is a large grape
producer and it’s believed
that wine-making has a
long history here. There’s
a number of wine-tasting
shops where visitors can
sample the goods and in
recent years wines from
the region have won
international awards
• Christians gave the town of
Göreme its name meaning
‘you cannot see here’, as
they hid in the area during
the Arab invasion.

Urgup is well-known for its ancient villages' rock cones
and magnificent stone dwellings. The town is a bustling
tourist destination and a must-see in Cappadocia. Enter
this cave to observe the hundreds of years ancient cave
houses. With fairy chimneys, early Christian rock
churches, and excellent vineyards, it is a mystical city. It
contains a combination of old and modern goods.
Urgup, which is located in a wine zone, also holds an
International Wine Competition and Vintage Festival
every October. It is a hub for handcrafted carpets, and

15. Goreme
• Goreme, formerly known as Korama, is located in the heart
of a valley filled with beautiful fairy chimneys and tuff rock
cones. Jerome appears in the cave chapels of the tenth and
eleventh centuries, carved out of volcanic rock. The
settlement is half-buried in the hill, its stone building facades
concealing a labyrinth of cave rooms beneath.
• On Müze Caddesi, a short walk from the centre on the way to
Göreme Open-Air Museum, are the fresco-adorned El Nazar
Kilise (Evil Eye Church) and Sakli Kilise (Hidden
Church).Hikers will delight in discovering fairy chimneys,
underground cave churches, and panoramic vistas.
• Goreme National Park is located in Turkey's Central Anatolia
area, within the borders of the province of Nevsehir. The
presence of numerous fairy chimneys produced by wind and
moisture is the most notable characteristic of Goreme
National Park. The site's worth is enhanced by the columbaria
on the high slopes of the Soganli, Zelve, and Uzengi Valleys,
as well as the monk cells carved into the valleys' depths.

18. Uchisar
• Uchisar, the highest point in Cappadocia, is positioned high on a
cliff.
• In terms of settlement type, Uchisar is similar to Ortahisar's
settlements. Three castles may be found here, including the
magnificent Uchisar Castle. Taking in the vistas from the castle,
particularly at sunset, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
• Consider a massive, porous rock stretching towards the sky, and
then imagine yourself standing on top of it. The Uçhisar Castle or
a hot air balloon ride are the ideal ways to take in the sights and
sounds of Uchisar. Through the pigeon valley, it has one of the
nicest trails. Nature is the one who sculpted it.
• Today, stores and kiosks surround the castle, selling a variety of
souvenirs such as rugs, marble ornaments, mirrors, and, of
course, tasty dry nuts and fruits to keep you company.
20. Avanos
• Avanos, a major town situated along the banks of
the Kizilirmak River, is known for its traditional
handicrafts and excellent examples of local
architecture. A layer of turquoise transforms the
unique soft and oily clay, which is derived from
riverbeds. Its origins can be traced back to the
Hittites.Avanos is one of Cappadocia's most
popular tourist destinations, especially for its
pottery workshops.
• With an amazing collection of ceramics from all
throughout Turkey, the Guray Ceramic Museum
honours this pottery legacy. Chez Ali is another of
Avanos' well-known ceramics masters. Every year
in August, the town holds the Avanos
International Tourism and Handicrafts Festival.
21.
22. Ortahisar
• It's a rock-cut fortress that looks exactly like
Uchisars. One of the first multi-story towns with a
fascinating archaeological past. The edifice, which
served as a stopover for historical Silk Road caravans
during the Hittite period, is actually a massive fairy
chimney. It houses ethnographic museums, churches,
and monasteries dating back to the Christian era.
Apples, lemons, oranges, and potatoes brought in
from the Mediterranean have been scooped out of
the valley sides.
• Üzümlü Church, Sarca Church, Cambazl Church,
Tavşanl Church, Balkan Deresi Churches, and Hallaç
Deresi Monaster are all ought to visit sites.
24. Mustafapaşa Village
(Sinassos- ancient
times)
• A hidden gem of architectural and cultural surprises located
in the south of Ürgüp. Rûm, or Greek Christians, coexisted
with their Muslim neighbours. With its gorgeous stone houses
and churches, the town leads us to vestiges of many
different eras.Behind statuesque neo-classical façades,
attractive homes (konak) display magnificent specimens of
stonework.
• The minaret of a 17th-century Seljuk mosque towers above
one of the town's two squares, while subsequent sights such
as the Ottoman-era akir Paşa Madrasa and the spectacular
late-nineteenth-century Church of Constantine and Helen are
also in the town centre.
• The Gomeda valley, west of Mustafapaşa, is one of the early
Christian sanctuaries where pilgrims flocked between the first
and eleventh centuries. It is similar to, but smaller than, the
Ilhara valley. Residences, chapels, and shelters from bygone
eras are hewn into the live rock along the valley's walls. The
vista of the river that snakes down the valley from there is
well worth the trip.
