2. The wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, grow at the back
of gums and are the last teeth that come through. Usually, four
wisdom teeth are in adults, one at each corner. They grow in
late teens and early twenties. By the time, your wisdom teeth
starts growing, the other 28 are already in their place. So, this
leaves no room for proper growth of your wisdom teeth. Due to
this lack of space, wisdom teeth at its emergence can get stuck
at an angle and only surface partially. All wisdom teeth that
grow in this way become impacted. Wisdom teeth extraction in
this case becomes necessary.
3. What are impacted wisdom teeth in actual?
The different types of impacted wisdom teeth are classified
on the basis of their growth:
•Vertical impaction: In this, the tooth is straight but stuck to
tooth just next to it. Because of this it can’t break through the
gums.
•Horizontal impaction: In this condition, the tooth grows in
horizontal direction
•Mesial impaction: the wisdom tooth grows at a certain angle
faced towards the mouth front.
•Distal impaction: this is the most difficult condition where
wisdom tooth grows up away from its neighbouring tooth
and gets lodged in that same position.
