INTRODUCTION TO
EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGIES
What does Empowerment means?
• It is to give power to something or someone, to promote the self
actualization or in this case is to enhance your knowledge about a
certain topic.
What does Technology means?
• The Technology we’re talking
about is something related in
using the internet. Internet, the
one that we called “Information
Highway” because it became the
major source of information,
from small to big issues. And by
major, it means communication
and platforms for information-
based services .
The Importance of Empowerment Technologies
As we all know, in today’s generation many millennial lives are wasted
because of cyber bullying and peer pressure. The reason behind both of
these are lack of knowledge and etiquette in the ICT world. So,
Empowerment Technology should be apply, to know the right way of using
ICT instead of bullying others.
With the help of Empowerment Technologies, Students and other millennial
will be able to understand the real value of technology; that with technology,
they can make their lives and future a better one.
Empowerment technology is important , to prepare, to teach the value and
to introduce the proper world of ICT (Information and Communication
Technologies) and also, to teach the proper etiquette of using it and not in
violence that could end up someone else’s precious life.
LESSON 1: WHAT IS ICT?
What is Information and Communications Technology (ICT) ?
Deals with the use of different
communication technologies such as
mobile phones, telephone, Internet, etc. to
locate, save, send and edit information.
It Is an ever-changing field that makes the
world a smaller place wherein the
information is swiftly exchanging with
different communications devices which
includes the internet.
What is Information and Communications Technology (ICT) ?
It is a term that includes any communication devices or application encompassing,
Radio, Television, Cellular Phones, Computer and Network- Hardware and Satellite
System and soon as well as the various services and applications associated with
them such as video conferencing and distance learning.
3 IMPORTANT CONCEPTS OF ICT
The ICT is made up of various parts which
includes three (3) important concepts;
1.INFORMATION
2.COMMUNICATION
3.TECHNOLOGY
INFORMATION
Information - means valuable context that gives meaning and relevance to many
people such as name of place, birth date, color, money, your name, depending on
the context. Technically, information is referred as data (once processed in a
computer) which is accurate and timely committed and organized for a purpose.
INFORMATION
Information is news or knowledge received or given.
An example of information is what's given to someone who asks for background about
something.
COMMUNICATION
Communication - refers to the conveying of information between two or more
people in different places. Technically, communication facilitates the
communication between individuals and groups using smart phones, features
phones, tablets, radio, television, and all computer based technology.
WHY DO WE COMMUNICATE?
HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE?
• SIGNS
• SYMBOLS
• COLORS
• GESTURES
• BODY LANGUAGE
• FACIAL
EXPRESSIONS
What are the basic types of communications?
NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION
• ORAL
• WRITTEN
VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Verbal communication is about language, both written and spoken. In general, verbal communication refers to
our use of words while non verbal communication refers to communication that occurs through the means of
other than words.

This model is also called a “linear model of communication”, “uni-
directional process’, or “action model”, because it describes a one-way
process within communication.
How we communicate has recently been transformed by the
internet and social media. Today, our lives are more connected
on a global scale than ever.
However, it is interesting to see how this technology, through
making it significantly easier to interact with peers, also altered
how intimate our interactions are with each other.
TODAY’S COMMUNICATION
The graphic below is a neat representation of the present most
popular forms of communication. It ranges from 10 as the most
intimate to 1 as the least intimate. The ranking in this graphics still
depends on the culture and nature of the place.
TECHNOLOGY
Technology - used to accomplish
various tasks in our daily lives, in
brief; technology are products and
processes used to simplify our daily
lives. We apply technology in almost
everything we do in our daily lives;
we use technology at work, we use
technology for communication,
transportation, learning,
manufacturing, securing data,
scaling businesses and so much
more. Technology is human
knowledge which involves tools,
materials, and systems.
