 Tipu Sultan, also known as the “Tiger of
Mysore "was a great ruler of the Kingdom of
Mysore.
 He was one of the brilliant and brave Muslim
scholar in his time.
 Tipu was the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of
Mysore and his wife name was Fatima Fakhr-
un-Nisa born on 20th November 1750 A.D at
Devanhalli.
 Haider appointed a maulvi for tipu
education.He received military education
from Ghazi-Khan who was a great
warrior.
 As a result Tipu became a religious zealot
and he hated everything that was not
connected to Islam.
 Tipu built a masjid(mosque) in every town
and appointed a Qazi to promote Islamic
education.
 Tipu Sultan helped his father both in the
First(nov,1769) and the Second Mysore
Wars(sep,1780). He was also a brave soldier and
great general. In Addition, he also learnt different
languages, He was well versed in Urdu , Persian,
and Arabic languages, mathematics and science.
 Tipu Sultan had a great vision and having a ability
to enhanced the Islamic rules in his Kingdom.
 He replaced the Hindu calendar with an Islamic
calendar based on the life of “Prophet
Muhammad(SAW)”.
 After the death of 60 years old Haider ali .Tipu
sultan is appointed to be a new leader on
December29,1782.
 On March 11,1784,the british east india
company formally surrender with the signing
of the Treaty of Mangalore.
 He was a truth lover of Islam and therefore, he
changed the name of some places by Islamic
names.
 He appointed a Sheikh-ul-Islam in each district
to teach the forcibly converted people the ways
of Islam.
 He issued gold, silver and copper coins.
 Most of the coins were Arabic and Persian
which hardly any Mysorean could understand.
 He kept many tigers chained at the place gate.
 The throne was made of gold in the shape of
tiger. But Tipu was never destined to sit upon
his throne.
 Tipu attacked district of Travancore which
resulted in 3rd Mysore war.
 He was defeated in this war.
 The war ended with signing of the treaty of
Srirangapatam according to which Tipu had
surrender half of his kingdom to the English
company and send his two sons to them as the
hostages of war.
 British led coalition of nearly 50,000 troops in
February of 1799.Tipu sultan had just 30,000
defenders.
 On May 4,the British broke through the city
walls with the help of Mir Sadiq.and Tipu
sultan got his most loyal officer ,Syed Gaffar
had been killed.
 There was a confusion all around. Tipu soldiers
and other people were trying to escape.
 When the British troops entered in castle
through its strong walls, Tipu sultan fought
long and hard, although ultimately
unsuccessfully to preserve his country.
 And At last the great Muslim leader was dead
on 5th May 1799.and buried at Gumbos.
 It is better to die before you bend your knees
before your enemy.
 One day lion is better than the hundred days of
jackal.
 Save me from friends, I will defend against my
enemies.
 The real joy of life is to combat difficulties and
miseries with firm determination.
