NJDEP RESET ALL APPROVAL
• Most approvals were cancelled at the end of 2015 and all by end of 2016
• All manufacturers are required to resubmit new test data based on 2013
protocols
• All testing is now based on a single set of common lab based test protocols
• Any references to an approval issued prior to 2015 are now invalid and the
latest list on the NJDEP website should be used
WHY THE RESET?
• Initial vendors submitted 80% TSS data that was close to NJDEP protocols.
- Approval for 50% given
• Later, manufacturers worked out that there was no need to submit 80% data when
50% was the target, resulting in disparity when comparing approved flow rates

  4. Purpose of Slide: Installation overview of the Downstream Defender. Key Points: All preassembled so contractor only needs to set the base at the correct level. Installs like a manhole, as it is a manhole. Inlet pipe need to be cut at an angle and grouted reasonably flush. Inlet hole is preformed. Internals mount on preinstalled ledger plates. Outlet is connected using a wrap or band connection and the outlet hole finished with grout. Information: Installation of the DD is not hard but requires a few steps to make it easier. Key points: Excavate and set the base. The benching skirt is preinstalled. Install the riser, checking that the inlet and outlet holes are in the correct position to accept the pipes! Note the preinstalled ledger plates for the internals. The precaster has already built the unit to specification. Install the inlet pipe, mark and cut the pipe to make a smooth connection on the interior wall. Place the internal components and bolt in place. Make the connection with the outlet stub and grout the manhole wall. Place the lid, correctly orienting the offset access casting to immediately upstream of the outlet stub. This is where the most floatable material will be when it comes to cleaning the top of the DD
  5. Purpose of Slide: Maintenance talking points. Key Points: Access is a single 30” cover on the 4” DD and two covers on the larger units. First vac off the floatables. Next reduce the pipe to 8” or 6” is recommended Vac out liquid to sediment and then jet while vacuuming sediment. This will remove over 90% of the sediment. Done! Information: How often to clean is based on getting to know your sediment load rates. Some areas will need more and some less frequent cleaning. Inspection is key. We recommend cleaning at least every 18 months. Some people think and say that you can’t clean these devices. That just shows they don’t understand the equipment. Regular cleaning as part of a normal maintenance program will remove 90% plus of all captured sediment. Anything left behind is not going anywhere! Be happy. If you find the unit is full, more frequent cleaning is needed, it’s working! You may also need to look up steam and find out where any particularly high sediment loads are coming from and address those issues. If the unit becomes full, it will stop functioning but will still allow water to flow due to washout. Full video on cleanout is available at Hydro International TV on You Tube
