Stakeholders are people who can be
affected by a firm’s actions.
This includes:
• Corporate shareholders & their families
• Customers & their families
• Employees & their families
• Supply chain partners
• Government agencies
• The physical environment
• Members of the local community
Consideration of Stakeholders and Their Interdependence
Marketers try to make decisions
that will benefit as many
stakeholders as possible knowing
that their profits may not be as

While CSR is not
a law or
regulation, it’s
more of a

Responsibility?
• Higher purpose and
caring about future
• Recognizes that
business is not just
about making money
• Provides employment
for local communities
• Most companies use
some form of CSR
• Not law mandated
• Separate from corporate
purpose
Can a Business be Both Conscious and Socially Responsible?
Businesses can practice both Conscious
Marketing and CSR, however, it is not
possible for every business.
When a company is in a polluting industry,
they can not be conscious marketers. They
can, however, be socially responsible by
doing something to better the environment
that they pollute.
