APRIL 25 2013- If only 10% of this story is true (also included in this post below- look for red headline that says:
Navy SEAL Admits Nukes To Be Detonated Nationwide for Martial Law Agenda), it means that the time to
bunker down is now feasible and highly recommended. Stock up on water and food. Have a plan B. If a Nuclear
Weapon or Radiological Dispersion Device (RDD), aka Dirty Bomb, is/are detonated as the story below suggests,
you have a 24 window after the blast where you must be in a secure location where the radiation will not affect you.
This means you have to think of basement structures, the central part of your home. A windowless area that is
reinforced by heavy and dense materials. Also, the basements of concrete buildings are good options if you have
time to get there after the initial blast.
Never go into the blast area after a nuclear event. Stay away from the radioactive plume, cloud or dust. Remember,
you have a +98% shot of surviving a nuclear terrorist event if you know how to respond once the event
happens. 24 hours after the blast is the window when you are most vulnerable.
It also means that I will not be having that cold beer on the Col's porch after all. But I might scoot over the border
and go see Ricky Tick if time still allows. Mind you, that if such an event does transpire, the MEXUSCAN border
could be shut down.

April 29 2013- Although this email has been circulating for a while, you might
be interested on the other side of this story. We received this email about a
supposed israeli counter-terrorism expert warning of coming attacks to the
United States. We did a simple search and it turns out it is an Urabn Legend
that has been sent out since 2005. According to ABOUT.com:
Even though Juval Aviv is a bona fide corporate security consultant operating
out of New York, his credentials as an intelligence expert have been
questioned by both journalists and government sources. A 2006 article in
The Guardian reported that "Aviv never served in Mossad, or any Israeli
intelligence organization," and "his nearest approximation to spy
work was as a lowly gate guard for the airline El Al in New York in
the early '70s."
A letter written to the U.S. President’s Commission on Aviation Security and
Terrorism in 1990 by Israeli counterterrorism adviser Yigal Carmon makes
the same allegations, further claiming that Aviv is known to have been
involved in "various acts of fraud and impersonation."
It is an impactful email because of the recent events in Boston and a highly-
suggestive audience would not even question its origin.
Rule #1: Question everything!
Rule #2: Research it and verify it!
First, here is the email itself followed by my comments:

Do you know who Juval
Aviv is? He was Golda
Meir's bodyguard and the
Israeli Agent upon
whom the movie 'Munich'
was based. Golda Meir
appointed him to track
down and bring to justice the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli
athletes hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games. In a
lecture in New York City a few weeks ago, Aviv shared information that
EVERY American needs to know, but that the US government has not yet
shared with its citizens.
Background
Aviv predicted the London subway bombing on the Bill O'Reilly show on 'Fox
News', stating publicly that it would happen within a week. At the time,
O'Reilly laughed and mocked him, saying that in a week he wanted Aviv
back on the show. Unfortunately, within a week the terrorist attack had
occurred.
Juval Aviv also gave intelligence to the Bush Administration about 9/11 a
month before it occurred. His report specifically said that they would use
planes as bombs and target high profile buildings and monuments... I think
we all know what happened, right?

34. occur within the next few months. Forget hijacking airplanes, because
he says terrorists will NEVER try hijacking a plane again as they know the
people on board will never go down quietly again. Aviv says that our airport
security is a joke 'that we have been reactionary' rather than proactive in
developing strategies that are truly effective.
Example 1: Because an idiot tried to light his shoe on fire, now everyone
has to take off their shoes.
Example 2: A group of idiots tried to bring aboard liquid explosives, and
now we can't bring liquids on board. He says he's waiting for some suicidal
maniac to pour liquid explosive on his underwear; government security will
then have us all traveling naked! Last but not least, our airport security
looks for metal, but the new explosives are made of plastic!
Currently, the US government only focuses on security when people are
heading to the gates. Aviv says that if a terrorist attack targets airports in
the future, they will target busy times on the front end of the airport
when/where people are checking in. For example, it would be easy for
someone to take two suitcases of explosives, walk up to a busy check-in
line, ask a person next to them to watch their bags for a minute while they
run to the restroom, and then detonate the bags BEFORE security even gets
involved. In Israel, security checks bags BEFORE people can even ENTER the
airport.
Coming Attacks: Not by
nukes but by Allah U

Aviv says the next terrorist attack
here in America is imminent and will
involve suicide bombers and non-
suicide bombers in places where
large groups of people congregate,
such as Disneyland, Las Vegas
casinos, shopping malls, subways in
rush hour, train stations, etc., as
well as in rural America this time
(Wyoming, Montana, etc.). The

35. attack will be characterized by simultaneous detonations around the
country involving at least 5-8 cities, including rural areas. Aviv says
terrorists won't need to use suicide bombers in many of the larger
cities, because at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they can
simply valet park a car loaded with explosives and walk away.
Aviv says all of the above is well known in intelligence circles, but
that the U.S. Government does not want to 'alarm American citizens'
with the facts. The world, however, is soon going to become 'a
different place', Aviv says, where issues like 'global warming' and
political correctness will have become totally irrelevant. On an
encouraging note, Aviv says that Americans don't have to be
concerned about being nuked. He says the terrorists who want to
destroy America will not use sophisticated weapons. Instead, they
like to use suicide, as it's cheap, it's easy, and it's effective and they
have an infinite abundance of young, ignorant, fanatic militants
more than willing to 'go see Allah'.
Aviv also says the next level of terrorists over which America should
be most concerned will not be coming from abroad. They will instead
be 'home grown' meaning they will have attended and been
educated in our own schools and universities right here in the U.S.
These young terrorists will be most dangerous because they will
know our language and will fully understand the habits of
Americans; but that we Americans won't know/understand a thing
about them.
The Best for of Intelligence is Human
Intelligence
So, what can America do to protect itself? From an intelligence perspective,
Aviv says the U.S. needs to stop relying on satellites and technology for its
intelligence. Instead, we need to follow Israel's, Ireland's and England's
hands-on examples of human intelligence, both from an infiltration
perspective as well as to trust 'aware' citizens to help. We need to engage
and educate ourselves as citizens; however, our U.S. Government continues
to treat us, its citizens, 'like babies'. Our government thinks we can't handle

36. the truth' and are concerned that we'll panic if we understand the realities of
terrorism. Aviv says this is a deadly mistake.
Aviv recently created/executed a security test for Congress by placing an
empty briefcase in five well-traveled spots in five major cities. The results?
Not one person called 911 or sought a policeman to check it out. In fact, in
Chicago, someone tried to steal the briefcase!
Know it! Shout
it! Learn it:
‘Unattended
Bag!’
In comparison, Aviv says
that citizens of Israel are
so well 'trained' that an
unattended bag or
package would be
reported in seconds by
citizen(s) who know to
publicly shout,
'Unattended Bag!' The
area would be quickly &
calmly cleared by the citizens themselves. But, unfortunately, America
hasn't been 'hurt enough' yet by terrorism for their government to fully
understand the need to educate its citizens or for the government to
understand that it's the citizens who are, inevitably, the best first-line of
defense against terrorism.
Family Matters
Aviv also was concerned about the high
number of children who were in preschool and
kindergarten after 9/11, children who were
basically 'lost' without parents being able to
pick them up, and schools that had no plan in
place to best care for the students until their
parents could get there. (In New York City, in

37. some cases this was days!) He stresses the importance of having a plan
that's agreed upon within your family, to respond to in the event of a
terrorist emergency. He urges parents to contact their children's schools and
demand that the schools, too, develop plans of actions, as they do in Israel.
He says we should all have a plan that is easy enough for even our youngest
children to remember and follow.
Does your family know what to do if you can't contact one another by
phone? Where would you gather in an emergency? Aviv says that the U.S.
Government has in force a plan that, in the event of another terrorist attack,
will immediately cut-off EVERYONE's ability to use cell phones, as this is the
preferred communication source used by terrorists and is often the way that
their bombs are detonated. How will you communicate with your loved ones
in the event you cannot use phones, internet? Bottom line, you need to have
a plan!
If you believe what you have just read, then you must feel compelled to
share it or send it to every concerned parent or guardian, grandparents,
uncles, aunts, whatever and whomever. Nothing will happen if you choose
not to do so, but in the event it does happen, I promise this particular post
or email will haunt you.
Don't be in the category of saying, "I should have sent this to...", but I didn't
believe it and just deleted it as so much trash.
Final Comment and Conclusion
No one has found any lawful sources that confirm that Juval Aviv warned the
Bush administration of the the 9/11 attacks before they happened, nor that
this Israeli predicted the 7/7 London attacks one week in advance during an
appearance on the Bill O'Reilly Show. This is unverifiable.
Still. It is true however that prevention and preparation is the best policy.
Israel does train its citizens to counter terrorism and have succesfully
thwarted many attacks. What we can all learn from this information is to be
vigilant but not live in a state of constant 'terronoia'.

IRAN PREPARING FOR 'THE LAST SIX MONTHS'

Despite the recent declaration by Iran that it does not want a nuclear bomb and statements by regime
officials that they are willing to negotiate over the nuclear issue, indications from within Iran signal
massive preparation for an all-out war as part of its destiny.
Nine years ago a Revolutionary Guards arm, the Holy Defense, published a book, “The Last Six Months,”
in which it describes the conditions needed in the last six months prior to the reappearance of the last
Islamic messiah. The book was distributed in the hundreds of thousands to all Guards, Basij and army
bases throughout the country.
Islam’s Shiites believe their 12th Imam, Mahdi, will reappear at the end of times and kill all the infidels,
raising the flag of Islam in all four corners of the world.
The book admonishes the military forces that they must be prepared to do their duties during those six
months and that there will be many signs to help the faithful to understand the transition, which will center
on Iran.
The book, which relies on Islamic hadiths by the Prophet Mohammad and his descendants from centuries
ago, describes the 9/11 attacks and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq as signs that the time is near.
But it also prophesies much more significant signs that would launch the six-month time frame for the
reappearance of Mahdi: an attack on Syria and then an attack on Iran.
Both those events are looking increasingly likely as Syria’s Bashar al-Assad continues to murder his own
people and Iran continues its quest for nuclear weapons.
Mahdi will only reappear, Shiites believe, when Israel is destroyed and the U.S. is brought to its knees;
two-thirds of the world’s population will die in a nuclear exchange, and with this chaos and havoc
engulfing the earth, the “coming” will unfold.
As revealed in the Iranian secret documentary “The Coming Is Upon Us,” it is believed within the Islamic
regime that the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is the historical figure as claimed in a hadith who
will rise up against the infidels and pass the flag of Islam to Imam Mahdi, the last Islamic messiah.
According to a source who served in the Guards’ intelligence – he has defected to a country in Europe –
billions of dollars have been spent on the military forces to emphasize this very ideology of the coming as
well as preparation for an all-out war.
Thousands of terrorist cells consisting of the most loyal are placed throughout the world, and they believe
Iran will be a key player in creating the circumstances for the coming.
The Islamic regime fully expects to be attacked, the source says. Its leaders believe this will happen as
foretold in centuries-old hadiths and written in the book “The Last Six Months.” Response contingencies
call for simultaneous attacks on Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, and attacks not only on U.S.
bases in the region but the U.S. homeland.

40. The Islamic regime has already mastered nuclear technology and currently has enough enriched
uranium, verified by the IAEA, for six nuclear bombs. It also has ballistic missiles capable of reaching
every country in the Middle East and many capitals in Europe but is also working, with the help of China
and North Korea, on intercontinental ballistic missiles.
An internal IAEA document from 2009 shows that Khamenei, as early as 1984, was pushing for nuclear
bombs, stating that, “This was the only way to secure the very essence of the Islamic Revolution from the
schemes of its enemies, especially the United States and Israel, and to prepare it for the emergence of
Imam Mahdi.”
Of utmost concern is that Iran likely has nuclear weapons already even as it works to create more. As
reported in October, Iranian agents scoured the former Soviet republics after the fall of the Soviet Union
in search of buying existing nuclear bombs, offering hundreds of millions of dollars. As verified with
sources at the State Department, a former U.S. intelligence officer and a Russian general, the Iranians
have at least two workable nuclear warheads.
The source in the Guards’ intelligence said he was informed in secret briefings while in the Guards that
they had two nuclear bombs, though he could not attest if they were viable. But what he verified next was
further terrifying: Iran has neutron bombs, thanks to its North Korea ally.
A neutron bomb is a tactical nuclear weapon invented during the Cold War to kill people with neutron
radiation, while minimizing damage to buildings.
“However, a neutron warhead is more accurately
described as, and is officially called, an Enhanced
Radiation Warhead because it produces large
quantities of all kinds of radiation – including gamma
rays – that generate the electromagnetic pulse
(EMP) effect at high altitude,” according to Dr. Peter
Vincent Pry, executive director of the Task Force on
National and Homeland Security, which advises
Congress.
“So if a neutron bomb, or more properly ERW, is
detonated at high altitude, above 30 kilometers, it
becomes an enhanced EMP weapon, a strategic
weapon that could generate a powerful EMP,
destroying electronics and collapsing the critical infrastructures that support the lives of millions of people
over vast geographic areas,” Pry said.
As verified by the IAEA, the Guards have launched ballistic missiles from ships and detonated warheads
over the earth’s surface. Those tests have only one purpose: create an EMP attack, whether by nuclear
or neutron bomb. As revealed last year, the Guards have now armed their naval vessels with ballistic
missiles and plan on deploying warships in the Atlantic Ocean.
Studies show that a successful EMP attack could destroy electric power, telecommunications,
transportation, banking and finance, and food and water across the continental United States.
The Congressional EMP Commission estimated that, given current U.S. unpreparedness, one year after
an EMP attack, about two-thirds of the U.S. population, 200 million people, would have perished from
starvation, disease or societal collapse.
As the West continues to negotiate with the leaders of the Islamic regime in Iran, even accepting their
nuclear program for “peaceful purposes,” one thing is ominously lacking: an understanding of their
ideology.

41. THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD'S "GENERAL STRATEGIC GOAL" FOR NORTH AMERICA
In July 2007, seven key leaders of an Islamic charity
known as the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and
Development (HLF) went on trial for charges that they
had: (a) provided "material support and resources" to a
foreign terrorist organization (namely Hamas); (b)
engaged in money laundering; and (c) breached the
International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which
prohibits transactions that threaten American national
security. Along with the seven named defendants, the
U.S. government released a list of approximately 300
"unindicted co-conspirators" and "joint venturers."
During the course of the HLF trial, many incriminating
documents were entered into evidence. Perhaps the
most significant of these was "An Explanatory
Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the
Group in North America," by the Muslim Brotherhood
operative Mohamed Akram. Federal investigators
found Akram's memo in the home of Ismael Elbarasse,
a founder of the Dar Al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church,
Virginia, during a 2004 search. Elbarasse was a
member of the Palestine Committee, which the Muslim
Brotherhood had created to support Hamas in the
United States.
Written sometime in 1987 but not formally published
until May 22, 1991, Akram's 18-page document listed
the Brotherhood’s 29 likeminded "organizations of our
friends" that shared the common goal of dismantling
American institutions and turning the U.S. into a
Muslim nation. These "friends" were identified by
Akram and the Brotherhood as groups that could help
convince Muslims "that their work in America is a kind
of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the
Western civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its
miserable house by their hands ... so that ... God's
religion [Islam] is made victorious over all other
religions."
Akram was well aware that in the U.S., it would be
extremely difficult to promote Islam by means of terror
attacks. Thus the “grand jihad” that he and his
Brotherhood comrades envisioned was not a violent

42. one involving bombings and shootings, but rather a
stealth (or “soft”) jihad aiming to impose Islamic law
(Sharia) over every region of the earth by incremental,
non-confrontational means, such as working to “expand
the observant Muslim base”; to “unif[y] and direc[t]
Muslims' efforts”; and to “present Islam as a
civilization alternative.” At its heart, Akram's document
details a plan to conquer and Islamize the United States
– not as an ultimate objective, but merely as a stepping
stone toward the larger goal of one day creating “the
global Islamic state.”
In line with this objective, Akram and the Brotherhood
resolved to "settle" Islam and the Islamic movement
within the United States, so that the Muslim
religion could be "enabled within the souls, minds and
the lives of the people of the country.” Akram
explained that this could be accomplished “through the
establishment of firmly-rooted organizations on whose
bases civilization, structure and testimony are built.”
He urged Muslim leaders to make “a shift from the
collision mentality to the absorption mentality,”
meaning that they should abandon any tactics involving
defiance or confrontation, and seek instead to implant
into the larger society a host of seemingly benign
Islamic groups with ostensibly unobjectionable
motives; once those groups had gained a measure of
public acceptance, they would be in a position to more
effectively promote societal transformation by the old
Communist technique of “boring from within.”
“The heart and the core” of this strategy, said Akram,
was contingent upon these groups' ability to develop “a
mastery of the art of 'coalitions.'” That is, by working
synergistically they could complement, augment, and
amplify one another's efforts. Added Akram: “The big
challenge that is ahead of us is how to turn these seeds
or 'scattered' elements into comprehensive, stable,
'settled' organizations that are connected with our
Movement and which fly in our orbit and take orders
from our guidance.” The ultimate objective was not
only an enlarged Muslim presence, but also
implementation of the Brotherhood objectives of
transforming pluralistic societies, particularly America,
into Islamic states, and sweeping away Western notions
of legal equality, freedom of conscience, freedom of

43. religion, and freedom of speech.
Akram and the Brotherhood understood that in order to
succeed in this endeavor, they needed to appeal to
different strata of the American population in different
ways; that whereas some people could be influenced by
messages delivered from a religious perspective, others
would be more responsive to messages delivered by
educators, or bankers, or political figures, or journalists,
etc. Thus, Akram's blueprint for the advancement of the
Islamic movement stressed the need to form a coalition
of groups coming from the worlds of education;
religious proselytization; political activism; audio and
video production; print media; banking and finance; the
physical sciences; the social sciences; professional and
business networking; cultural affairs; the publishing
and distribution of books; children and teenagers;
women's rights; vocational concerns; and
jurisprudence.
By promoting the Islamic movement on such a wide
variety of fronts, the Brotherhood and its allies could
multiply exponentially their influence. Toward that
end, the Akram/Brotherhood “Explanatory
Memorandum” named the following 29 groups as the
organizations they believed could collaborate
effectively to destroy America from within – “if they
all march according to one plan”:

By setting up these many front groups, the Muslim
Brotherhood was emulating the Communist Party tactic of

Last week's Security Weekly discussed the important role that grassroots defenders practicing situational awareness
play in defending against terrorist attacks by individuals and small cells, what we refer to as grassroots militants.
Anyone who reads STRATFOR's security and terrorism material for any length of time will notice that we frequently
mention the importance of situational awareness. The reason we do so, quite simply, is that it works. Situational
awareness is effective in allowing people to see potential threats before -- and as -- they develop. This allows
potential victims to take proactive measures to avoid a perceived threat, and it enables them or other observers to
alert authorities.

48. While threats can emanate from a number of very different sources, it is important to recognize that terrorist attacks --
and other criminal acts, for that matter -- do not materialize out of thin air. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Terrorists
and other criminals follow a process when planning their actions, and this process has several distinct steps. The
process has traditionally been referred to as the "terrorist attack cycle," but if you look at the issue thoughtfully, it
becomes apparent that the same steps apply to nearly all crimes. Of course, the steps in a complex crime like a
kidnapping or car bombing are far more involved than the steps in a simple crime such as purse-snatching or
shoplifting, where the steps can be completed quite rapidly. Nevertheless, the same general steps are usually
followed.
People planning attacks are vulnerable to detection during various phases of this process, and observant people can
often spot such attacks developing. Therefore, situational awareness serves as one of the key building blocks of
effective personal security, and when practiced collectively, national security. Since situational awareness is so
important, we thought it would be helpful to once again discuss the subject in detail and provide a guide that can help
describe what situational awareness is and explain how it can be practiced at a relaxed, sustainable level.
Foundations
First and foremost, it needs to be noted that being aware of your surroundings and identifying potential threats and
dangerous situations is more of a mindset than a hard skill. Because of this, situational awareness is not something
so complex and difficult that only highly trained government agents or specialized corporate security
countersurveillance teams can practice it. Indeed, situational awareness can be exercised by anyone with the will and
the discipline to do so.
An important element of adopting the mindset required to practice situational awareness is to first recognize that
threats exist. Ignorance or denial of a threat -- or completely tuning out one's surroundings while in a public place --
makes a person's chances of quickly recognizing the threat and avoiding it slim to none. This is why apathy, denial
and complacency can be (and often are) deadly. A second important element is understanding the need to take
responsibility for one's own security. The resources of all governments are finite and the authorities simply cannot be
everywhere and cannot stop every criminal act. The same principle applies to private security at businesses or other
institutions, such as places of worship. Therefore, people need to look out for themselves and their neighbors.
Another important facet of this mindset is learning to trust your "gut" or intuition. Many times a person's subconscious
can notice subtle signs of danger that the conscious mind has difficulty quantifying or articulating. Many people who
are victimized frequently experience such feelings of danger prior to an incident but choose to ignore them. People
who heed such perceptions are seldom caught off guard.
Levels of Awareness

49. People typically operate on five distinct levels of awareness. There are many ways to describe these levels
("Cooper's colors," for example, is a system frequently used in law enforcement and military training). But perhaps the
most effective way to illustrate the differences between the various levels of awareness is to compare them to the
distinct degrees of attention we practice while driving. For our purposes here we will refer to the five levels of
awareness as "tuned out," "relaxed awareness," "focused awareness," "high alert" and "comatose."
The first level, tuned out, is the state of awareness a person exercises when he or she is driving in a very familiar
environment or is engrossed in thought, a daydream, a song on the radio or even the kids fighting in the backseat.
Increasingly, cellphone calls and texting are also causing people to tune out while they drive. Have you ever gotten
into the car and arrived somewhere without even really thinking about your drive there? If so, then you've
experienced being tuned out.
The second level of awareness, relaxed awareness, is comparable to defensive driving. This is a state in which you
are relaxed but are also watching the other cars on the road and are looking well ahead for potential road hazards. If
another driver looks as though he may not stop at the intersection ahead, you tap your brakes to slow your car in
case he does not. Defensive driving does not make you weary, and you can drive this way for a long time if you have
the discipline to keep yourself at this level, but it is very easy to slip into the tuned-out mode. If you are practicing
defensive driving you can still enjoy the trip, look at the scenery and listen to the radio, but you do not allow yourself
to get so engrossed in those distractions that they exclude everything else. You are relaxed and enjoying your drive,
but you are still watching for road hazards, maintaining a safe following distance and keeping an eye on the behavior
of the drivers around you.
The next level, focused awareness, is like driving in hazardous road conditions. You need to practice this level of
awareness when you are driving on icy or slushy roads, or when the roads are infested with potholes and erratic
drivers that exist in many Third World countries. When you are driving in such an environment, you need to keep two
hands on the wheel at all times and have your attention totally focused on the road and the other drivers. You don't
dare take your eyes off the road or let your attention wander. There is no time for cellphone calls or other distractions.
The level of concentration required for this type of driving makes it extremely tiring and stressful. A drive that you
normally would not think twice about will totally exhaust you under these conditions because it demands your
prolonged and total concentration.
The fourth level of awareness is high alert. This is the level that induces an adrenaline rush, a prayer and a gasp for
air all at the same time -- "Watch out! There's a cow in the road! Hit the brakes!" This also happens when that car you
are watching doesn't stop at the stop sign and pulls out right in front of you. High alert can be scary, but at this level
you are still able to function and quickly respond to danger. You can hit your brakes and keep your car under control.

50. In fact, the adrenaline rush you get at this stage sometimes even aids your reflexes. But the human body can tolerate
only short periods of high alert before becoming physically and mentally exhausted.
The last level of awareness, comatose, is what happens when you literally freeze at the wheel and cannot respond to
stimuli, either because you have fallen asleep or, at the other end of the spectrum, because you are petrified from
panic. It is this panic-induced paralysis that concerns us most in relation to situational awareness. The comatose level
of awareness -- or perhaps more accurately, lack of awareness -- occurs when a person goes into shock, his or her
brain ceases to process information and the person simply cannot react to the reality of the situation. Often when this
happens, a person can go into denial, believing that "this can't be happening to me," or the person can feel as though
he or she is observing rather than actually participating in the event. Often, the passage of time will seem to grind to a
halt. Crime victims frequently report experiencing this sensation and being unable to act or react during an unfolding
crime.
Finding the Right Level
Now that we've discussed the different levels of awareness, let's focus on identifying what level is ideal at a given
time. The body and mind both require rest, so we have to spend several hours each day at the comatose level while
asleep. When we are sitting at our homes watching a movie or reading a book, it is perfectly fine to operate in the
tuned-out mode. However, some people will attempt to maintain the tuned-out mode in decidedly inappropriate
environments (e.g., when they are out on the street at night in a Third World barrio), or they will maintain a mindset
wherein they deny that criminals can victimize them. "That couldn't happen to me, so there's no need to watch for it."
They are tuned out.
Some people are so tuned out as they go through life that they miss even blatant signs of pending criminal activity
directed specifically at them. People can also be tuned out due to intoxication or exhaustion. It is not at all unusual to
see some very tuned-out people emerge from airports after long, transoceanic flights. Criminals also frequently prey
on intoxicated people.
If you are tuned out while you are driving and something happens -- for instance, a child runs out into the road or a
car stops quickly in front of you -- you will not see the problem coming. This usually means that you either do not see
the hazard in time to avoid it and you hit it, or you totally panic and cannot react to it -- neither is good. These
reactions (or lack of reactions) occur because it is very difficult to change mental states quickly, especially when the
adjustment requires moving several steps, such as from tuned out to high alert. It is like trying to shift your car directly
from first gear into fifth and it shudders and stalls.
Many times, when people are forced to make this mental jump and they panic and stall, they go into shock and will
actually freeze and be unable to take any action -- they go comatose. This happens not only when a person is driving

51. but also when a criminal catches someone totally unaware and unprepared. While training does help people move up
and down the awareness continuum, it is difficult for even highly trained individuals to transition from tuned out to high
alert. This is why police officers, federal agents and military personnel receive so much training on situational
awareness.
It is critical to stress that situational awareness does not mean being paranoid or obsessively concerned about your
security. It does not mean living with the irrational expectation that there is a dangerous criminal lurking behind every
bush. In fact, people simply cannot operate in a state of focused awareness for extended periods, and high alert can
be maintained only for very brief periods before exhaustion sets in. The "fight or flight" response can be very helpful if
it can be controlled. When it gets out of control, however, a constant stream of adrenaline and stress is simply not
healthy for the body or the mind. When people are constantly paranoid, they become mentally and physically burned
out. Not only is this dangerous to physical and mental health, but security also suffers because it is very hard to be
aware of your surroundings when you are a complete basket case. Therefore, operating constantly in a state of high
alert is not the answer, nor is operating for prolonged periods in a state of focused alert, which can also be overly
demanding and completely enervating. This is the process that results in alert fatigue. People, even highly skilled
operators, require time to rest and recover.
Because of this, the basic level of situational awareness that should be practiced most of the time is relaxed
awareness, a state of mind that can be maintained indefinitely without all the stress and fatigue associated with
focused awareness or high alert. Relaxed awareness is not tiring, and it allows you to enjoy life while rewarding you
with an effective level of personal security. When you are in an area where there is potential danger (which is almost
anywhere), you should go through most of your day in a state of relaxed awareness. Then if you spot something out
of the ordinary that could be a threat, you can "dial yourself up" to a state of focused awareness and take a careful
look at that potential threat -- and also look for other threats in the area.
If the potential threat proves innocuous or is simply a false alarm, you can dial yourself back down into relaxed
awareness and continue on your way. If, on the other hand, you look and determine that the potential threat is a
probable threat, seeing it in advance allows you to take actions to avoid it. You may never need to elevate to high
alert, since you have avoided the problem at an early stage. However, once you are in a state of focused awareness
you are far better prepared to handle the jump to high alert if the threat does change from potential to actual -- if the
three suspicious-looking guys lurking on the corner do start coming toward you and look as if they are reaching for
weapons. The chances that you will go comatose are far less if you jump from focused awareness to high alert than if
you are caught by surprise and your mind is forced to go into high alert from tuned out. An illustration of this would be
the difference between a car making a sudden stop in front of a driver who is practicing defensive driving and a car
making a sudden stop in front of a driver who is sending a text message.

52. Of course, if you know that you must go into an area that is very dangerous, you should dial yourself up to focused
awareness when you are in that area. For example, if there is a specific section of highway where a lot of improvised
explosive devices detonate and ambushes occur, or if there is a part of a city that is controlled (and patrolled) by
criminal gangs -- and you cannot avoid these danger areas for whatever reason -- it would be prudent to heighten
your level of awareness when you are in those areas. An increased level of awareness also is prudent when
engaging in common or everyday tasks, such as visiting an ATM or walking to the car in a dark parking lot. The
seemingly trivial nature of these common tasks can make it all too easy to go on autopilot and thus expose yourself to
avoidable threats. When the time of potential danger has passed, you can then go back to a state of relaxed
awareness.
Clearly, few of us are living in the type of intense threat environment currently found in places like Mogadishu, Juarez
or Kandahar. Nonetheless, average citizens all over the world face many different kinds of threats from a variety of
criminal actors on a daily basis, from common thieves and assailants to militants planning terrorist attacks. Situational
awareness can and does help individuals protect themselves in any environment. When practiced corporately, it can
also prevent terrorist acts intended to shock and destabilize an entire society.

53. In 1982 the Muslim Brotherhood, which Islam expert
Robert Spencer has called "the parent organization
of Hamas and al Qaeda," adopted a strategic plan known as
"The Global Project for Palestine" which laid the
groundwork for a terrorist "secret apparatus"
that eventually would culminate in the creation of Hamas in
December 1987 and the unveiling of the Hamas charter in
August 1988. A 14-page plan written in Arabic and dated
December 1, 1982, the Project outlined a 12-point strategy
to “establish an Islamic government on earth.”
What makes the Project so different from the standard
Islamist rhetoric (i.e., “Death of America! Death to Israel!”
and “Establish the global caliphate!”), is that it represents a
flexible, multi-phased, long-term approach to the “cultural
invasion” of the West. Calling for the utilization of various
tactics, ranging from immigration, infiltration, surveillance,
propaganda, protest, deception, political legitimacy and
terrorism, the Project has served since its drafting as the
Muslim Brotherhood “master plan.” The following tactics
and techniques are among the many recommendations
made in the Project:
 Networking and coordinating actions between
likeminded Islamist organizations;
 Avoiding open alliances with known terrorist
organizations and individuals to maintain the
appearance of “moderation”;
 Infiltrating and taking over existing Muslim
organizations to realign them towards the Muslim
Brotherhood’s collective goals;
 Using deception to mask the intended goals of
Islamist actions, as long as it does not conflict with
Shari’a law;
 Avoiding social conflicts with Westerners locally,
nationally or globally, that might damage the long-
term ability to expand the Islamist powerbase in
the West or provoke a backlash against Muslims;
 Establishing financial networks to fund the work of
conversion of the West, including the support of
full-time administrators and workers;
 Conducting surveillance, obtaining data, and
establishing collection and data storage capabilities;

54.  Putting into place a watchdog system for
monitoring Western media to warn Muslims of
“international plots fomented against them”;
 Cultivating an Islamist intellectual community,
including the establishment of think-tanks and
advocacy groups, and publishing “academic”
studies, to legitimize Islamist positions and to
chronicle the history of Islamist movements;
 Developing a comprehensive 100-year plan to
advance Islamist ideology throughout the world;
 Balancing international objectives with local
flexibility;
 Building extensive social networks of schools,
hospitals and charitable organizations dedicated to
Islamist ideals so that contact with the movement
for Muslims in the West is constant;
 Involving ideologically committed Muslims in
democratically-elected institutions on all levels in
the West, including government, NGOs, private
organizations and labor unions;
 Instrumentally using existing Western institutions
until they can be converted and put into service of
Islam;
 Drafting Islamic constitutions, laws and policies for
eventual implementation;
 Avoiding conflict within the Islamist movements on

 Collecting sufficient funds to indefinitely perpetuate
and support jihad around the world.
As an outgrowth of this Project, in May 1991 the
Muslim Brotherhood issued to its ideological allies an
explanatory memorandum on "the General Strategic
Goal for the Group in North America." Explaining that
the Brotherhood's mission was to establish "an effective
and ... stable Islamic Movement" on the continent, this
document outlined a "Civilization-Jihadist Process" for
achieving that objective. It stated that Muslims "must
understand that their work in America is a kind of
grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western
civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its miserable
house by their hands ... so that ... God's religion [Islam]
is made victorious over all other religions." For a

Lebanese Muslim pop singer renounces music, joins the jihad
And everyone in this New York Times story is scratching his head over why he did it, but the answer is
plain: for whatever reason, whether it be the jihad in Syria or something else, he became more fervent in
his commitment to Islam, and thus began to take seriously texts like these:
Hadith Qudsi 19:5: "The Prophet said that Allah commanded him to destroy all the musical instruments,
idols, crosses and all the trappings of ignorance." (The Hadith Qudsi, or holy Hadith, are those in which
Muhammad transmits the words of Allah, although those words are not in the Qur'an.)
Muhammad also said:
(1) "Allah Mighty and Majestic sent me as a guidance and mercy to believers and commanded me to do
away with musical instruments, flutes, strings, crucifixes, and the affair of the pre-Islamic period of
ignorance."
(2) "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will pour molten lead into the ears of whoever sits listening to a
songstress."
(3) "Song makes hypocrisy grow in the heart as water does herbage."
(4) "This community will experience the swallowing up of some people by the earth, metamorphosis of
some into animals, and being rained upon with stones." Someone asked, "When will this be, O Messenger
of Allah?" and he said, "When songstresses and musical instruments appear and wine is held to be
lawful."
(5) "There will be peoples of my Community who will hold fornication, silk, wine, and musical
instruments to be lawful ...." -- 'Umdat al-Salik r40.0
That was the first step. Then he also had to take seriously texts like these, all from the Qur'an:
"And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for
persecution is worse than slaughter..." -- 2:191

57. "They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So
choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to
enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among

and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." -- 9:5
"Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden
by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the
Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." -- 9:29
"Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have
thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or
ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens..." -- 47:4

SIDON, Lebanon — His success was a dream come true for this tough port city on the Mediterranean
coast: a poor kid whose honeyed voice and ballads of love and heartbreak rocketed him to wealth and
fame far from the gun-ridden neighborhood where he grew up.
The transformation of Fadel Shaker has raised dire questions about how the civil war in Syria has
inflamed splits in Lebanese society.

58. More recently, Mr. Shaker has grown a scruffy beard and has taken up with a hard-line sheik.
Fadel Shaker became a superstar, hailed as “the king of romance,” his songs wooing masses throughout
the Arab world. He bought a vast, three-story villa with a swimming pool overlooking the city, cars, a
private orchard and a beachfront restaurant where he performed at parties.
Then last year, in a move that has baffled fans and friends alike, he renounced popular music as forbidden
by Islam, grew a scruffy beard and took up with a hard-line sheik.
Last month during a deadly turf battle with the Lebanese Army in a Sidon suburb, he denounced his
enemies as dogs and pigs and boasted that his group had killed two men.
He has not been seen in public since, and is believed to be in hiding from the authorities in the refugee
camp near where he grew up.
The transformation of Mr. Shaker, 44, (pronounced SHACK-er) from a baby-faced crooner to an angry
militant has left many here dumbfounded and others angry, and raised dire questions about how the civil
war in Syria has inflamed splits in Lebanese society.
“We were all shocked,” said Ahmed al-Naaj, a waiter in Mr. Shaker’s former restaurant. “Why would a
famous singer that the whole world knows change all of a sudden like that?”
While even those close to Mr. Shaker cannot fully account for his turnabout, most people here see it as yet
another symptom of worsening sectarian tensions in Lebanon.
For years, many in this majority Sunni Muslim city have complained of the growing clout of Hezbollah,
the Shiite militant group that is Lebanon’s most powerful political force. But the civil war in neighboring
Syria brought relations to a new low, with Hezbollah intervening to support President Bashar al-Assad
and the Sunnis backing the rebels fighting for his overthrow.
Those issues clearly rankled Mr. Shaker, a Sunni, and accelerated his militancy.
“God willing, we’ll take what we deserve with our own hands, because there is no state, there are no
judges, there is nothing,” he threatened in a live television interview shortly before his disappearance.
“We’re living in the jungle.”

59. Mr. Shaker’s early life in many ways resembled the script of an Arab television melodrama. Born to a
Lebanese father and a Palestinian mother, he grew up in a poor neighborhood adjacent to the Ain el-
Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in Sidon. He never finished high school, but his neighbors discovered his
musical talent early and booked him to sing at weddings.
As his fame spread, he gave larger concerts in Lebanon and abroad, releasing albums and music videos
that made him a household name throughout the Arab world. His hits included romantic ballads like “O
Absent One,” “I Forgot to Forget You” and “Come, My Love.”
His former chauffeur, Hani al-Sin, said that Mr. Shaker had been religious but not zealous. He prayed, but
his restaurant served alcohol, and Mr. Shaker liked to play cards, which some strict Muslims consider
sinful.
The first changes came gradually. A few years ago, he informed the restaurant staff without explanation
that alcohol would no longer be sold there. Some of his friends attributed the decision to family pressure.
His mother was devout, and his older brother, Abdel-Rahman, had joined the Sunni militant group Jund
Al-Sham.
In 2010, Mr. Shaker took the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. He accepted fewer performances after his
return and announced last year that he would sing pop music no more.
Other signs of religiosity followed. He let his beard grow and performed religious ballads at mass rallies
held by Sunni groups in support of the Syrian rebels.
He also took up with a local firebrand sheik, Ahmad al-Assir, who had gained notoriety for calling for the
disarming of Hezbollah and orchestrating media stunts to draw attention to his cause. Sheik Assir also
spoke in support of Syria’s rebels, once traveling to Syria, where he was filmed firing a machine gun from
a rooftop.
Mr. Shaker became a regular at Sheik Assir’s mosque and appeared with him in public and on television
talk shows. During one interview, Mr. Shaker sang a jihadist anthem, declaring, “Do not cry for me if I
fall, for death does not scare me and I intend to die a martyr.”

60. Underpinning Mr. Shaker’s new activism was a sense of Sunni empowerment. Lebanon’s Sunnis have
complained of marginalization, and many have taken inspiration from their brethren in Syria to assert
themselves in Lebanon.
Samih Arnaout, a longtime associate of Sheik Assir’s mosque, said the sheik explained his outspokenness
with an Arab proverb: “Every rooster crows atop his pile of trash.”
The sheik felt that the Sunni political leaders were failing to defend their community. “So he said, ‘I’m
going to crow,’ ” Mr. Arnaout recalled.
Other Sunni leaders feared such activism would create a violent backlash and sought to steer Mr. Shaker
away from it. Ahmed al-Jardali, a leader in the Lebanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in Sidon, said
he tried to persuade Mr. Shaker to focus his piety on spiritual songs.
Hani al-Sin, a former chauffeur, in what remains of Mr. Shaker’s villa. Mr. Shaker is now believed to be
hiding from the authorities in a refugee camp.
“Someone like Fadel could send a message much better than someone holding a rifle, so it was important
for us to try to put him in the right place,” Mr. Jardali said. “But then the problems started and it was too
late for him to choose a different direction.”
Last month, clashes broke out between the Lebanese Army and gunmen inside Sheik Assir’s mosque.
Each side accuses the other of instigating the violence, and Sheik Assir’s followers claimed that Hezbollah
fought alongside the army. More than two dozen people were killed in two days and more than 100 were
wounded, most of them soldiers.
The sheik and Mr. Shaker have not been seen since, but in a video posted online, Mr. Shaker, his beard
specked with gray, raised two fingers and spoke into the camera.
“We sent home two corpses for you yesterday, you dogs, you pigs,” he said. Someone off camera told him
16 soldiers had been wounded, and he responded, “May God increase their number!”
Mr. Shaker’s pride at fighting the army enraged many of his fans, and other prominent musicians
denounced him.

Dawashe to search for suspects.
Suspected Boko Haram members subsequently opened fire in the village, the spokesman said, adding that
the 20 victims were mostly fishermen and traders....

TIKRIT: A suicide bomber driving a car packed with explosives blew himself up near a Kurdish security
forces patrol killing at least eight of them early on Sunday, police said.
The attack took place in the centre of the ethnically mixed town of Tuz Khurmato, 170 km north of the
capital Baghdad, in a notoriously unstable region over which both the central government and
autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan claim jurisdiction.
No group claimed responsibility but suicide bombings are the trademark of Al Qaeda, which has been
regaining momentum in its insurgency against the Shia-led Baghdad government.
More than 4,000 people have been killed by militants in Iraq this year, of which more than 800 were
killed in July alone, according to violence monitoring group Iraq Body Count.
Sectarian tensions across the region have been inflamed by the civil war in neighbouring Syria, putting
growing strain on Iraq, where Kurds, Shia and Sunni Muslims have yet to find a stable way of sharing
power.
Sunni insurgents, including the al Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq, have been recruiting from Iraq's
Sunni minority, which resents Shia domination of their country since the US-led invasion that toppled
Saddam Hussein in 2003.
