WHAT IS THE SATURDAY WORKSHOP SERIES?
The Apollo Theater Academy Saturday Workshop Series teaches high school students about careers in technical
stage production. Participants learn lighting design, audio engineering, set design and prop creation.
Students get to work with members of the Apollo Theater’s production crew, while learning what it takes to put on
a live theatrical production. The Saturday Workshop Series provides participants with the necessary skills and
knowledge to explore technical careers in the arts and entertainment industries.
The Saturday Workshop Series is a free program and is open to grades 9 –12. Classes meet on Saturdays for
12 weeks. Spring 2013 classes take place beginning March 2 through May 18, from 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Applications are due Friday, January 31, 2013.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
• All participants along with a parent/guardian are required to attend an orientation on
Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 5:30 p.m.
• All participants must be high school students with a valid school ID, school record/schedule, or report card.
• All participants must be available and commit to attending each Saturday from March 2 through May 18.
• All participants should have an interest in behind-the-scenes careers in the arts, theater, or entertainment industry.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Step 1: CAREFULLY READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. You will find these at the top of each section of the application.
Step 2: COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM. Be sure to fill out Sections 1-3 of the application and to keep the
application in order. Neatness counts!
Step 3: ASK FOR A RECOMMENDATION from at least one adult such as a teacher, guidance counselor, or mentor
in support of your application. Write your name in the Applicant’s Name box on both parts of Section 4 before
giving these pages to the person who will write your letter.
Step 4: SUBMIT YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION BY FRIDAY, JANUARY 31, 2013.
