6. SCENE – a social enterprise focused on community energy – was
started by three students from the University of Edinburgh.
7. We offered SCENE advice, office space and
critical funding to help them get their business off the ground.
But most importantly, SCENE needed our help making connections with
enterprises and funders who could help them turn their ideas into real projects.
8. SCENE now produces some of the most in-depth and insightful
reports on community energy in the UK.
And they have created and run “SCENE Connect” – the most comprehensive
database of community renewable energy projects ever created.

ECCI provides the place and space for ‘low carbon leaders’ and networks from business, finance and the public sector to work together to deliver a low carbon future.Hosted by the University of Edinburgh, in partnership with Heriot-Watt University and Edinburgh Napier University, the Edinburgh Centre creates a unique platform for supporting Government policy implementation; enhancing business enterprise and innovation; and delivering professional skills training.Within the hub, the ECCI has three clear functions:Enterprise & InnovationInnovation is at the core of all ECCI activity. We support businesses to develop low carbon products and services and partner with organisations like NHS, Transport Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, 2020 Climate Group and RBS to shape and implement all kinds of low carbon projects.Skills & LearningECCI delivers executive training and education to equip private and public sector leaders and innovators with the skills required to succeed in the low carbon economy. We've already guided around 1000 delegates through ECCI executive education, partnering with the likes of Harvard, MIT, RBS and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office to deliver programmesinthe UK and China. Enterprise & InnovationInnovation is at the core of all ECCI activity. We support businesses to develop low carbon products and services and partner with organisations like NHS, Transport Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, 2020 Climate Group and RBS to shape and implement all kinds of low carbon projects. We also provide a Physical Space for meetings and Events like: investor showcases, Product launches; Executive training Workshops and conferences.Since Dec 2010 we've had around 3000 visitors through our doors and supported approximately 100 businesses and networks to create new low carbon projects, products and services, and attract investment into Scotland.
And we recently opened our doors to our brand new innovation suite at High School Yards – the suite will be home to all sorts of organisations who share our vision: start ups, Corporates, SMEs, Voluntary orgs etc. These residents will be able to share knowledge, work alongside and attend events with staff, Masters students, fellow residentsand external visitors.Later this year we’ll be releasing news about an exciting Smart Cities project, in which ECCI will act as an accelerator and mediator - getting projects off the ground, working together and running efficiently and effectively.
