DEAR LEARNERS
MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY
INPUT & OUTPUT
DEVICES
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students can:
 Identify the different kinds of input and
output devices
 Explain the importance and use of
input and output devices
 Distinguish the devices whether it is an
input or output device
INPUT DEVICE
Input devices are those devices
from which we can input data and
instructions into the computers.
An input device helps you to
communicate with the computer.
To enter information and issue
commands, you use input devices.
Examples of input devices:
Keyboard
Mouse
Scanner
Microphone
Digital Camera and Web Camera
 The keyboard is the most common and widely used input
device.
 It is made up of buttons called 'keys'.
KEYBOARD
 A mouse is an input devices that fits comfortably
under the palm of your hand.
 A mouse is a pointing device.
 We use mouse to control the movement of the mouse
pointer on the screen and to make selections from
the screen.
MOUSE

 A scanner is a light-sensing input device that reads
printed text and graphics and then translates the
results into a form the computer can use.
 The image or text can be saved or changed on the
computer.

 microphone
 Device that converts electric pulses into broadcast or
recorded sounds.
 A microphone allows you to record your voice to
the computer.
 It also lets you speak to other people using
computers or even on the telephone.
 A microphone is also called a mic.
MICROPHONE
PICTURE OF A MICROPHONE
 Web camera
 Miniature digital camera used to transmit video images in real
time or for videoconferencing over the Internet.
 digital camcorder
 Portable video camera in which the recording tape is replaced
by a processor, which records and stores sounds and images
in digital format.
 digital camera
 Camera that contains a sensor and a microprocessor rather
than film; it records and stores images in digital form, which
can then be viewed on a screen.

OUTPUT DEVICE
 Output devices are hardware devices that
display or present information to the user or
other people.
 The data that has been processed into a useful
form is called OUTPUT.
 Output is the result we get through output
devices.
Examples of output devices:
Monitor
Printer
Speaker
Headphone
 A monitor is an output device similar to a television
screen.
 It is used to display text and graphics.
 There are several types of monitor:
 video monitor
 Device with a cathode ray surface that displays computer-
generated graphics and texts visually.
 flat screen monitor
 Thin screen that usually has a liquid crystal display or plasma
display surface.
MONITOR
PICTURES OF MONITORS
 A printer is an output device that print text and
graphics from a computer onto paper.
 A printer can produce both black and white and
colour images.
 Examples of printers are:
• Laser printer – print created by applying ink powder (toner) to
drum
• Dot-matrix printer – print using the typewriter approach by
pushing the pins against the ink ribbon to form characters.
• Ink-jet printer - print created by spraying dots of ink onto paper

 A speaker allows you to hear the sound generated
by your computer.
 Speaker produces sound or music.
SPEAKERS
 Headphone is used to listen
to music and sounds.
 Headphone usually have
strap that rests on top of the
head and a pair of speakers
over both ears.
HEADPHONE
Let’s go back!
 What are the two types of devices that we
have discussed?
 What are the examples of input devices that
we can use or find in a computer? How
about the output devices?
 How important are the input and output
devices for computers?
Let’s apply!
Group Activity:
The learners are divided into four groups – the same
group that they had during the motivational activity.
Group the following pictures of the devices whether it
belongs to the input or output devices
EVALUATION
Directions: Identify the following devices
whether it belongs to the input and
output devices group.
