the story starts when Mr. Li was reminiscing
his moments with his mother. At that time,

Based on the short story Tanjung Rhu by
Min Fong Ho, the event that I like the most is
when Ying was arguing with her grandmother.
They were arguing about their different ways of
setting the altar.

10. Paragraph 2 – Body 1
During that time, Ah Ma and Mr. Li were
rushing to the office. Ah Ma was praying to her
late husband and telling him that she was going
to see Tanjung Rhu that day. She was old so she
might be a little slow in motion. This made Ying
impatient and volunteered herself to help.
However, Ah Ma did not allow her grand
daughter to do that because she had her own
way of doing things.

Meanwhile, Ying was trying to help just
because she did not want Mr Li and Ah Ma to be
late for office. Ying was actually being very
considerate and helpful to make thing smoother
but the way she spoke to Ah Ma sounded harsh
especially for elders. That was why Mr Li
interrupted to save the situation and avoid
worse argument between both ladies. It was
also learned that we need to have and show
respect to the elders.

the joss stick proves that it is important to
preserve the religious practise in the family.
From this incident, it was shown that we should
practice religious teaching in the right way no
matter how modern our lives have changed.
Ying knew how to do the ritual although she was
still young and the way she did it was a little
different from her Ah Ma’s.

In conclusion, my favourite scene that
involved family members of different ages
shows that we have to be tolerate with the
elders and respect them. Also, we have to keep
practising religious teachings in the right way to
live harmoniously.
