Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland in 1865. The story follows 7-year-old Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a strange world called Wonderland. There, she meets peculiar characters including the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the King and Queen of Hearts, and Tweedledee and Tweedle Dum. Alice has many adventures in Wonderland as she tries to understand this curious place and its even curiouser inhabitants.
2. Author
• Alice in Wonderland is a book written by the English author Charles Lutwidge
Dodson, or Lewis Carroll as he is better known.
• Lewis Carroll was born on the 27th of January, 1832.
• He was born in England and lived in a small village with his mother, father and 10
siblings. So that, he was part of a very big family!
• He published the book “Alice in Wonderland” in 1865.
• He was not only an author, but a mathematician too (he was very good at Maths).
3. Alice
• Alice is a 7 year old girl. She is the main character of the book
and film.
• She lives at home with one older sister, a cat called Dinah
and her Aunt.
• Alice goes to school every day and her lessons start at 9
o’clock in the morning.
• She has blond hair and blue eyes and wears a blue dress.
• Alice can become bigger and smaller.
• She is always seeking new adventures with her friends and
falls down a rabbit hole chasing after the White Rabbit.
• She is friends with the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat and
eats at the Mad Hatter’s tea party.
• Alice is not friends with the King and Queen of Hearts and
she is ordered to leave their kingdom.
4. The White Rabbit
• He wears a waistcoat and has glasses, he also carries a
watch.
• He is friends with Alice, one day she follows him down a
rabbit hole and she finds herself in an imaginary world.
• He has a watch but it is broken, (he is always late!). At
the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, the Mad Hatter and the
March Hare try to fix his watch.
• At the beginning of the film he sings:
• ‘I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date! No time to
say “Hello”, “Goodbye!” I’m late! I’m late!I’m late!’
5. The Cheshire Cat
• He is a purple cat with stripes.
• He has yellow eyes and a big smile on
his face.
• He is always smiling and likes to be
mischievous.
• Sometimes he is kind to Alice
• Sometimes he is mean to Alice and gets
her into trouble
• His special talent is that he is able to
make himself invisible.
• He can make himself disappear so that
only his smile remains.
• Sometimes he appears sitting on a tree.
6. The Mad Hatter
• He lives in Wonderland.
• His best friend is the March Hare.
• Together, they are always drinking tea and having a
tea party.
• The Mad Hatter is a funny character because he is
always telling jokes and asking funny questions.
• He is always moving and never stays in the same
place for very long. Sometimes he disappears and
then reappears in a new place.
• He talks nonsense and he is often reciting poetry or
riddles. (He’s crazy or mad).
7. King & Queen of Hearts
• The King of Hearts is married to the Queen of
Hearts.
• He is more kind than the Queen and often
forgives people if they have made mistakes.
• He is small and wears a long red robe and a big
gold crown.
• He is not friends with Alice and orders her to
leave his kingdom.
• The Queen of Hearts is married to the
King of Hearts.
• She is always angry so she does not smile
• She is not kind to Alice and asks her to
leave her kingdom.
• The Queen wears a black and red gown.
• She has a small gold crown.
• She plays croquet (a sport) with a stuffed
pelican.
8. Tweedle Dee &Tweedle Dum
• They are twin brothers.
• They look and behave identically and often
copy each other’s behaviours.
• They like causing trouble in Wonderland and
creating mischief.
• They speak in riddles and often recite verses
of nonsense. (crazy).
• They always agree with each other and
never argue.
