2. OBJECTIVE
S:
•Analyze the linguistic
situation in the Philippines.
•Why we need to know the
importance of linguistic in
our everyday lives.
At the end of the lesson, the students
should be able to:
3. "Every language changes
at a rate which leaves
contemporary persons free
to communicate
without disturbance".
4. “when a language dies, a
way of understanding the
world dies with it, a way
of looking at the world. ”
5. What is the linguistic
situation in the
Philippines?
6. • The people of the Philippines are
experiencing a period of language
convergence, marked by high levels of
borrowing from large languages such
as English, Tagalog, as well as from
regionally important languages. In this
process, for better or worse, some
languages are abandoned altogether
and become extinct.
8. • There are over 120 languages
spoken in the Philippines. Filipino, the
standardized form of Tagalog, is the
national language and used in formal
education throughout the country.
Filipino and English are both official
languages and English is commonly
used by the government.
11. • These are all mostly indigenous
languages belonging to the Austronesian
language family. Out of these, 10 languages
account for the language over 90 percent of
Filipino people speak at home. These
languages are Tagalog, Bisaya, Cebuano,
Ilocano, Hiligaynon Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray,
Maguindanao, Kapampangan and
Pangasinan.
12. Why we need to know
the importance of
linguistic in our
everyday lives.
13. Linguistics helps us understand
our world
Every language is like a one-of-a-kind
species. It captures unique
conceptualizations of the world and has
its own ways of constructing words,
phrases and sentences for
communicating ideas. As we compare
the words and structures of various
languages, we come to a greater
understanding of the world we live in.
14. Apart from simply understanding the
intricacies of world languages, this
knowledge can be applied to improving
communication between people,
contributing to translation activities,
assisting in literacy efforts, and treating
speech disorders. And, of course,
linguistics training is also valuable for
studying and learning languages.
15. • What is your opinion on the
current linguistic situation in
the Philippines?
EVALUATION • How is linguistics
used in everyday life?
• Give some linguistic
issues in the
Philippines.
