The student took an existing game review that was 3,000 words and condensed it to 564 words while still conveying the key points. They recorded a voiceover to go along with gameplay from DOOM, using audio editing tools like a multiband compressor to balance noise levels and emphasize important sounds like effects and speech over background noise. Several experiments were done with effects like reverb and denoising that did not improve the piece. In the end, the student balanced volume levels and removed unnecessary effects to produce the final project.
2. Process
The script was easy enough as I had
just taken an already existing review
and made it into my own words and
also slimmed it down from the
original 3,000 words down to 564
words however I still believe that it
still conveys the point even if I had to
miss out quite a few of the points
and it seemed very long winded so it
kind of had to be edited to fit to the
timing of this piece. It also holds the
attention of the listener by including
all the gore and everything to the
small parts of design however I
believe my voice was very monotone
and would not actually keep an
audience interested.

• The first picture as shown is of
me usinmultiband compressor
to change the noise levels to
raise the more important parts
of the game play such as the
sound effects and the speech
and not raise the middle and
add a similar ratio to the low
and high segments.
• The other picture shows the
effects options to show which
fade I had used for the two
extracts the DOOM trailer and
the gameplay.

• This to show the music and the order of the
work I did to make it more equal and to make it
fit to the timings I was given for the project.

some of my experiments
that didn’t work out
such as the reverb which
made the music a little
bit too echo-ish and also
the DeNoiser which
allowed me to freeze the
amount of hertz and
increase and decrease it
but it didn’t make a large
enough difference to
change the piece and
add it to the project.

• I also did a sound test to see
what the options did to the
extracts when the low was
increased to max it
practically increased the
bass and the middle made
the sounds sharper but the
high made the sounds into a
higher pitch. Also I had a
small problem with the bass
options as seem as if I
altered it too much it would
become either more silent
or give you way too much
bass and that would be all
you could hear.

• I also did some experiments
with the chorus option
however all I could tell was
that when I altered the
depth the noises became
deeper and I edited the
delay and that just made it
sound as if I said everything
twice or more. The other
picture were the settings for
the DOOM trailer on the
multiband compressor, I
didn’t use the normal
compressor as I wanted
more control over each of
the sounds.
8. Process
Then I added my voice over the DOOM gameplay file and because it didn’t work when I
tried to put it over the DOOM trailer but it made very little sense as it had loud speech in
both and they overlapped with each other and so it made no sense and then I tried to put
it over the DOOM gameplay and the DOOM gameplay was much quieter and also there
was less speech and more sound effects and so you could easily hear and make sense of
the review.
10. Process
• Then I did a once over on the project as seem
as the volume levels were all over the place
and so I corrected them and decided to take
away a few of the extra little bits and pieces
such as the multiband compressor as it didn’t
seem to make any positive difference to my
piece and I also got rid of the DeNoiser for the
same reason and some others.
