2. Cradle to cradle
Cradle to cradle can be defined as the design and
production of products of all types in such a way
that at the end of their life, they can be truly
recycled (upcycled), imitating nature’s cycle with
everything either recycled or returned to the earth,
directly or indirectly through food, as a completely
safe, nontoxic, and biodegradable nutrient. With
cradle to cradle, all the components of a product
feed another product, the earth or animal, or
become fuel: products are composed of either
materials that biodegrade and become food for
biological cycles or of technical materials that stay
in closed-loop technical cycles, continually
circulating as valuable nutrients for industry. It
could be argued that cradle to cradle is equivalent
to true sustainability – through the biological or
technical components used, all products become
sustainable as nothing becomes waste which cannot
be reused.

About Design-
Based on cradle to cradle principle I have design this
dress which is made of recycle denim. The most direct
method of recycling denim is to turn old garments into
useful items. I use denim because denim is Sturdy and
long-lasting, denim is a comfortable and widely used
fabric. For this I want to cut my old denim jeans and want
to create a new skirt by using godet technique,so that I
can end reuse of denim.Even after using the skirt we can
reuse or recycle it and make different types of product or
crafts.Example-bag,stationary pouch,rug and top etc.So
that ultimately there is no waste.
After using the skirt we can reuse
or recycle it and make Bag or Top

What is denim fabric?
Denim is one of the world’s most iconic fabrics. The moment
you say the words “denim jeans,” everyone around you knows
what you’re talking about. Denim is popular across national and
cultural boundaries, and the denim jean has become a symbol
of American culture the world over.
History of denim fabric
The word “denim” comes from the French serge de Nimes, which
refers to a particular type of fabric that was produced in Nimes, a
town in France. Over time, this warp-faced cotton weave style
became popular throughout the region, and this popularity
spread into neighboring Italy.
The city of Genoa rapidly became the world’s biggest producer
of serge de Nimes. Since the French name for Genoa is “Genes,”
the name “jeans” stuck when this fabric gained renewed
popularity during the American Gold Rush.
Gold miners liked the durability and repairability of denim-
weave cotton, and though other dye colors were widely available
in the American West, manufacturers like Levi Strauss continued
using the indigo blue dye that Genoan fabric merchants
originally resorted to out of necessity.
