2. Key Moment #1
I think the first key moments is right at the start of the trailer when a group of business
men are in a board room talking about how they gave money and time and they got
nothing in return. They are talking in the past tense which suggests something has
happened once before in the past and may be happening again.
Also, I think the fact that they are talking about if something is different ‘now’ suggests
that they expect something this time because they have already been failed once; scenes
like this are often used to tell the audience that someone is in some kind of trouble and
that they are under pressure to get results.
Furthermore, there are a lot of what look like important men all looking at him for
answers, this suggests that he has answers and also that he is an important person who is
expected to achieve big things, further making the audience want to know about this man
and what is expected. This scene also intrigues the audience and puts them in his shoes to
feel a similar pressure and get a look at what his life is like.
3. Key Moment #2
I think the second key moment is when the business men you saw at the start of the trailer
are in the factory and say ‘what you’ve created here is incredible’. I think this is an
important scene because it shows what has changed since the start of the trailer and also
that the business men at the start have changed their minds and they now think what is
happening is incredible rather than a let down.
Also, in this scene you see the main character and one of the side characters celebrate
because of what the business men have just said, this suggests that this was important and
also that it is an achievement to have them say that. This also gives the audience a sense of
the relation the two characters have because they are both happy and both celebrate.
This also has an effect on the audience because they would feel happy for the characters
as they saw at the start the dire situation they were in and now it is the opposite. This also
shows the audience what it is that the main character achieved and that he turned around
what seemed bad into something good.
4. Key Moment #3
This is one of the most important scenes in the trailer because it is when they travel to a
different dimension. This is important because this has seemed to be the goal throughout
the whole trailer and it is also the climax to all the work and compliments which were
given in the first minute of the trailer.
I think this is also important because this is when the actual story of the trailer begins
because all of the people go to a different dimension and what they find is not what they
expected and therefore they run into some problems.
These scenes would get the audience excited and also add tension to the trailer because
you don’t know what could happen to them. Also, the scene cuts off with all of them
froze and looking up at the sky, this suggests that something bad has happened and
therefore more tension is added to the trailer in order to keep the audience interested and
on the edge of their seats.
5. Key Moment #4
I think this this the last key moment because it is when they are all returned back to the
normal dimension but they don’t know where each other are and hat has happened to
them.
In my opinion, this is important because it shows all of their relationships and what they
will do to help each other out even when they have been turned into monsters and are
being detained. It also follows up on what happened in the alternate dimension and the
effect it had on the people that went.
Furthermore, I think that the following scenes where you are told/shown the powers that
each person has are very important because it allows for the audience to then see what
the film is about and get a sense of whether they will like it or not. This is also one of the
first scenes where you see they become some kind of team and see them work together.
Near the end of the trailer you see all of the people with powers work together to fight
against another creature with powers, this is where the name Fantastic Four comes from;
this is important because it links everything together at the end of the trailer.
6. Title
The title is at the end of the trailer; this is to make sure that the audience remember the
name of the film and also that they can spread the word if they thought that the trailer
looked good.
After the title is shown it is then followed by an action scene and a bit of comedy, this is
to make sure that the audience remembers one of the best parts of the trailer and also
that they remember what type of trailer it is.
Furthermore, the scene at the end of the trailer seems to be the most important in the
whole trailer and it is left on a cliff hanger; this is important because it leave the audience
wanting to watch the whole film to see what happens after this and to see the rest of the
film and even more action scenes.
Lastly, the title screen appears right before you see the end of an important scene,
therefore using another cliff hanger and it also lasts 5 seconds, this way the audience
watches it and sees the name for a short but effective amount of time.
7. Onscreen Text
In this trailer their isn’t a lot of onscreen text but when there is it is very important and
tells the audience what is coming up and what the characters in the trailer will have to do.
For example, the 2 onscreen texts say that if you change the world you will have to
defend it, this suggests that something is going to happen which will mean that they will
have to protect the world, this foreshadows a fight that puts the world at risk.
I think this onscreen text is important because it brings tension to the trailer and also
makes the audience get their hopes up and get excited, therefore they will leave the
cinema/trailer feeling that it was exciting and they therefore want to watch the rest of the
film.
Also, the background is very plain and therefore it makes a statement and is also easy to
read, I think that this is to make sure the viewers get excited.
8. Music
In my opinion this is one of the most important aspects of any trailer because this will
make sure that the audience gets the right fell for the trailer and also puts them in a
certain mood when watching it.
In this trailer the music starts very calm and downbeat, making sure that the audience isn’t
really excited from the get o, it then slowly becomes louder and more upbeat as the
scenes become more action packed and tense. I think this is important because it then
creates an atmosphere specific for the trailer and will slowly make the audience become
more excited.
As you get closer to the end of the trailer the music becomes a lot louder and there is a
lot less talking, this is so the audience constantly stays on the edge of their seats and
excited so their heart is left beating and they are full of adrenaline when the trailer is over.
In a horror trailer the same kind of music would be used bu it wouldn’t become more
upbeat but rather louder, and more daunting, making the audience feel pressured and
scared by a higher figure, and in a horrors case, this would be the antagonist.
