District Governor Raymond Ray
August was a very busy month for our club.
Our new District Governor, Raymond Ray,
came to our August 16th
meeting to adddress
our club. We were also recognizing our law
enforcement groups that day and we had
about 25 officers from the Sheriff's Office,
Barnesville Police Department, and the
Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
DG Raymond presented commemorative
coins to Sheriff Brad White and Chief Chuck
Keadle. He also recognized Jim Granum as a
Korean War veteran
(no WWII vets were
in attendance that
day).
DG Raymond told
us about the theme
for this year: Rotary
Serving Humanity,
and his theme: Dare
to be Better. He also
noted that he is a
veteran and a public
servant and he has
tremendous respect
for our military, our

President's Message
My Fellow Rotarians,
It is my privilege and honor to serve as your President for the remainder of this
Rotary year. We all hate to see Missy go, but wish her well in her new endeavor.
Missy has done a great job preparing the Club for a great year. She really has
made my job easy. As many of you know, I am passionate about recognizing
those who serve our community and this great nation. As September 11th
approaches, I ask that you all take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by
our men and women in uniform every day. As Rotarians we are compelled to
give back to these heroes. The Club has some great things planned in the coming months. I look
forward to working with all of you to support or military, law enforcement, and first responders.
Let’s make this a great year! Dare to be Better!
Mark Rischbieter

after a short hiatus. We look
forward to hearing more from
Anders during an upcoming
program.
We had one new member
join in August – Lori Grogan.
Lori was sponsored by Kelly,
the rest of us need to get on
the stick and recruit some
more members too.
We also had some sad
news in August – our
President, Missy Kendrick, has taken a job in Polk County with
their IDA and she is leaving us. We are all sad to see her go, it will
Issue 3, Vol 8 September, 2016 www.rotaryclubofbarnesville.com Page 2
leave a hole in our club and in the community that no one can fill. But we wish her all the best in
her new adventure and we are countig on her staying in touch with us. To fill the Presidential role
Mark Rischbieter, President Elect, stepped up and assumed the title early. Our goals and plans for
the year are still in good hands as Mark had worked closely with Missy to prepare for this year.
As we start September we look forward to the rest of this great year, but we are keeping our
fingers crossed that it won't be quite as busy as this past month.
Missy Kendrick
What are we going to do? Missy leaves a huge
hole in our club, our community, and our lives.
She came to town as the new Director for the
IDA. She brought a beautiful family and
tremendous energy with her and joined Rotary
right away. Before long she got involved in many
other things and set to work on making the
community better in countless ways.
She has been a volunteer at Buggy Days since
she came to Barnesville and at BBQ & Blues since
it started. She plays a key role in the events as she often takes on tasks that no one else
wants.
She re-energized and greatly improved our Leadership Lamar program. The curriculum is
more robust, includes more local businesses, and exposes students to other things outside
the immediate community.
She has always been a part of the chancel choir (along with her kids) and bell choir at
Barnesville FUMC.
She has been active in Rotary for years, helping out with all kinds of tasks even before she
got involved with the leadership team.
She was one of the CERT members involved in search and rescue the morning of the
tornado in 2011. Within a couple of days she took over coordination of the volunteer efforts.
She also became one of the case managers and in that role she matched victims with the
best resources to meet their needs. Missy is probably more responsible than any other
individual for our recovery from the tornado.
She was Citizen of the Year in 2012.
She organized Manufacturer's Appreciation Month and a contest for school kids to express
their appreciation in art for savings bond rewards.
She brought Piedmont Green Power to town. They are our largest property taxpayer and
the construction of their plant employed lots of local citizens.
She helped Jordon Lumber and Enercon expand. She brought Norcom to the old Carter's
facility along with several other businesses. She has conducted surveys with existing
businesses to learn how we can help them out and she helps them apply for their tax
incentives and exemptions so they can invest that much more in our community.
She helped develop the new industrial park on the bypass. She has hosted several bus
tours for project managers and provided responses to countless requests for information from
prospective projects. She coordinated several familiarization tours for local officials and
citizens to understand what we have to offer and to see it from a prospect's viewpoint.
She brought her family to our community and each and every one of them has contributed
in positive ways.
Missy we are going to miss you and your family more than you can imagine. Our only solace
will be to remember all the ways that you made us better and try to continue along those
paths. We wish you all the best in the world and we are grateful we were a part of your life!

Note from Rotoract Club
Thank you for your help in making the first Rotaract meeting
fun and exciting. It looks like we will have between 15 and 20
members to start off the academic year. Several students
emailed me that they were not able to attend this first meeting,
but still wanted to be involved. And the members elected some
excellent leadership.
Attached are photos for Rotary Newsletter, Facebook, and
Linked-In accounts…..
Your investment has paid off! Thank you for all you do.
Brenda E. M. Johnson, PhD
Rotoract Visits
The Faculty advisor for Rotoract, Dr. Brenda
Johnson, and several of the Rotoract members
attended a recent meeting of our club. We are
excited to have this level of interest and energy
among the next generation of Rotarians. From
left to right the picture includes Dr. Johnson,
Lindsey Hoyt (BSMA),Trayvond Souder
(BSMA), Leo Solomon (BSMA), Anders
Ramming (General Studies) Rotary student
from Faaborg, Denmark, Matthew Calvert (ASBA), Dr. Max Burns.
The club is off to a great start, electing leaders at the first meeting and planning their year of
service. It looks like this is the largest club ever for our Rotoract chapter. We'll see and hear
much more from them over the course of the year and we will work with them on some
service projects.
What is in our Future?
There are several events coming up for our club. Mark these dates on your
calendar! If you have an event you want to add to the list let a club officer know.
 The Gun Raffle (Round 2) begins again this month!
 September 9-11, GRSP Student Weekend at Clayton County Industrial
Park
 September 16, Birthday Celebration at the Senior Center
 September 17, Buggy Days Social, a Family of Rotary event
 November 5, Rotary Leadership Institute in Carrolton, GA.
 June 10-14, 2017, Rotary

She brought a beautiful family and tremendous energy with her and joined Rotary right away. Before long she got involved in many other things and set to work on making the community better in countless ways. She has been a volunteer at Buggy Days since she came to Barnesville and at BBQ & Blues since it started. She plays a key role in the events as she often takes on tasks that no one else wants. She re-energized and greatly improved our Leadership Lamar program. The curriculum is more robust, includes more local businesses, and exposes students to other things outside the immediate community. She has always been a part of the chancel choir (along with her kids) and bell choir at Barnesville FUMC. She has been active in Rotary for years, helping out with all kinds of tasks even before she got involved with the leadership team. She was one of the CERT members involved in search and rescue the morning of the tornado in 2011. Within a couple of days she took over coordination of the volunteer efforts. She also became one of the case managers and in that role she matched victims with the best resources to meet their needs. Missy is probably more responsible than any other individual for our recovery from the tornado. She was Citizen of the Year in 2012. She organized Manufacturer's Appreciation Month and a contest for school kids to express their appreciation in art for savings bond rewards. She brought Piedmont Green Power to town. They are our largest property taxpayer and the construction of their plant employed lots of local citizens. She helped Jordon Lumber and Enercon expand. She brought Norcom to the old Carter's facility along with several other businesses. She has conducted surveys with existing businesses to learn how we can help them out and she helps them apply for their tax incentives and exemptions so they can invest that much more in our community. She helped develop the new industrial park on the bypass. She has hosted several bus tours for project managers and provided responses to countless requests for information from prospective projects. She coordinated several familiarization tours for local officials and citizens to understand what we have to offer and to see it from a prospect's viewpoint. She brought her family to our community and each and every one of them has contributed in positive ways. Missy we are going to miss you and your family more than you can imagine. Our only solace will be to remember all the ways that you made us better and try to continue along those paths. We wish you all the best in the world and we are grateful we were a part of your life!
