Our Speakers:
Laura Illig
Laura is the current VP of Marketing at SELCO. Prior to moving to Eugene,
Laura was a Vice President in Marketing for Citigroup in New York City and
London, England and has more than 15 years’ experience in marketing, human resources and organizational develop-
ment. She has a bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and an MBA from the University of
Rochester. Laura joined CPY-BBBS’s board because of her experience in other cities as a mentor for troubled teens and
her strong belief in the power of mentoring for changing lives. Laura lives in Eugene with her husband, a UO law professor, and her 8 year old
daughter.
Laura has served on the Board of Directors at Committed Partners for Youth/Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lane County for five
years. The Board is charged with fundraising, setting strategic direction for the agency, and financial and managerial over-
sight. She has also served on the Board of the Oregon Pacific Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Board of the Eugene-
Springfield Leadership Program, and on the Board of the Arts and Business Alliance of Eugene.
Committed Partners for Youth is a non-profit mentoring agency servicing youth-in-need in the Eugene/Springfield community. They
serve youth (ages 6 to 17) through our partnerships with Eugene/Springfield elementary schools, middle schools, social services agencies
and the juvenile court system. http://www.committedpartners.org/index.html
Alexa Sharps
Alexa was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, spending a short time in Seattle, Washington after college.
She is a loving wife and has been the Director of Children’s Miracle Network for the past 3 years. She dove
into the fundraising role when she moved back to Eugene in 2007, and has fallen in love with the children
and families that Sacred Heart Medical Center is privileged to impact on a daily basis.
http://www.childrensmiraclenetwork.org/Index.aspx
Children’s Miracle Network is a charity that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals. Donations
to Children’s Miracle Network are used to provide charitable care, purchase life-saving equipment, and fund
research and education programs that save and improve the lives of 17 million children each year. The or-
ganization has since evolved into a worldwide force in fundraising, raising nearly $4 billion over the past 27
years.

Speakers Continued:
The mission of The Register-Guard's Newspaper in
Education program is to promote literacy, broaden
students' community and global perspectives and to
provide area educators with a powerful teaching
tool. With integrity, the program is grounded in the
belief that use of the newspaper is an essential element in the formation of
citizenship.
And for more than a decade, The Register-Guard, with support from sub-
scribers and local businesses, has helped educators and students use the
newspaper as valuable, credible tool for instruction in both school and
home settings.
A Family For Every Child, a nonprofit organiza-
tion, began with Christy Obie-Barrett and dozens
of dedicated, passionate volunteers. Founded in
2006, AFFEC developed into an organization fo-
cused on finding permanent and loving adoptive
homes for Oregon's waiting children. They in-
tend to develop programs that assist special-
needs/challenging-to-place foster children in
finding their own Forever Families.
