This document provides a behind-the-scenes look at the process of editing a video advertisement. It discusses selecting opening and closing shots, adjusting transitions, adding logos and graphics, and trying different fonts and music tracks. The editor experiments with different design elements and layouts before finding what works best. They choose a font, add required elements like a website link, and select an upbeat background music track that fits the tone of the footage. In the end, the draft video is complete after extensive editing and testing of different creative options.
1. VIDEO DRAFT 1:
Being the original draft that began being documented on the post-Production diary, all that
happens next will continue here. That being the main draft that was talked about with the
only use of video files.
Being the last update, I mentioned the videos were all set out ready for me to move on.
Next to do, I have two extra clips to add one being the opening shot then the final shot to
finish off.
Out of the two, I decided to go with the end scene before adding in the opening scene. This
way, with only having one shot that worked from the bus journey I already to which video to
include. Whereas the other scene, I still need to look through and find which would be the
best clip to start the video with.
Cutting down the clip, for now I have only snipped a few seconds from the start where the
camera is on focusing. Keeping the rest of the length whilst the device held steady, I will be
adding what is needed to finish the advertisement off working with a decent duration
period.
2. Downloading a PNG file of the client's logo, it had been sized down and placed at the top
right corner. Not being the final spot, a few more adjustments will be made before I find
where I want the title to stick.
Giving the image more of an entrance, a cross dissolve transition was placed at the
beginning helping the video to run more smoothly. Following, where the clip of the
character is laughing moves onto the next showing the bus journey, a filmdissolve was
placed as I believe it plays out better the clips landing on top of each other allowing the
footage to connect.
The tagline was now added followed by a play around with the fonts in attempt to find the
best fitting one to finish with.
Stencil: This is more for an artistic/army like setting. Definitely doesn’t fit.
3. Playbill: This isn’t a cowboy themed advertisement either.
Rockwell: Not thick enough, a little too serious as well.
Eras Bold ITC: Far too much for a Canon advertisement.
Book Antiqua (Bold): Perfect. I will be moving forward with this font as it has the right
boldness, not too serious but there is still a statement.
Going back onto the pngaaa site, I hunted around looking for a realistic Canon camera to
slide into the final shot. It did take a while to find what I was after as all the images looked
animated.
4. Thinking I had found one in the end, once it had been added I see now the device also looks
more animated that real.
There was attempt in making the png image work... but it just didn’t.
Removing the latest addition, a few more files were added and changed around. One being
a blank red image, placing that at the bottom allowing any image above to reveal
themselves on top otherwise I have found the red screen would cover the files.
Next, I did delete the canon logo as well deciding to go ahead with a normal image, so the
red doesn’t blend. But then I thought to keep the png logo, but still add another placed on
top but this time with a white square behind and the slogan right below.
Hoping to help the finish result doable, I snipped a screenshot of the layout hoping to insert
that, and have that image slide onto the screen smoothly.
5. Yeah, that didn’t go to plan.
A new idea came to mind, and that was to have every file included to align with the red
background with the slide transition included.
6. Watching the end sequence play through, it works a lot better.
Finally adding a website link to the UK Canon site,
Using a very simple font, I went ahead with Perpetua and will be sticking with that. All that
needs done to the text now is the addition of a transition as well as an edit in placement.
For the transition, I text has been made to slide along with the rest of the frame so it will not
be appearing on its own.
Looking into the result now,
7. The image does look quite plain, there is not much too it but honestly at this point I am not
sure on what there is I could add. Plus, not having all the time in the world to complete this,
for now I will as is. If I find time before having to publish this piece more focus will go into
the last frame.
Now for the opening shot:
After watching through all the footage taken relating to this scene, I have now chosen the
clip I will be going ahead with.
Starting off, I have unlinked the video from its original audio to remove any sound as once
the scene moves onto the next, that is when it gets important and where I want the music
to start playing as well.
Purposely making the transition messy,
8. A cross zoom transition was placed onto the clip that plays after the opening as the ending
the one before moved around a lot on its own. With a smooth playthrough the first video
wouldn’t really make sense to the advertisement, whereas with the messiness of picking up
the camera it helps to show the camera is needed for something important. At least it does
from my perspective.
Leaving that how it is now, all that is needed now is the background music which now I’ll
have to search for. Finding www.melodyloops.com, that site will be used for finding the
right sound as it claims to be copyright free.
Never mind turns out you have to pay for the tracks.
Uppbeat.io has now been found and will be used. Going for the free version, I only have
access to ten downloads per month which is more than what I need right now. Downloading
only a few to test out, that includes:
Check It Out – Mountaineer
Good Times – SENSHO
Great Things to Happen – Soundroll
Big Adventure – Paul Yudin
And finally, Weekend Livin’ - Konstantin Garbuzyuk
Starting off in the order they were download, Check it out:
9. So far, pretty long track. Definitely don’t need that much but I could easily trim it down if I
decide to move forward with this track.
Listening to it with the original audio playing as well, it fits quite well. Upbeat, slightly
energetic, might go forward with this track but depends mainly on the next few.
Good Times:
Shorter, but not too short I suppose. If needs be, I can expand the length so shouldn’t be an
issue if it turns out I prefer this audio out of the options.
I actually really like that track, if I had to choose between this and the last, I really don’t
know they both fit so well. Only thing is, I will need to expand the track.
Great Things to Happen:
Going long again, I shall now give it a listen.
10. That one doesn’t work. There are vocals in the track which doesn’t mix well considering the
audio for the original footage has been kept in. If the track didn’t have someone singing
then it could work, but since it does then it won't work.
Big Adventure:
With the run in to the start of the audio, I have placed it earlier than the rest allowing the
upbeat part to play just as the opening scene moves on.
The backing vocals are off putting. On to the final track...
Weekend Livin’:
Backing vocals again.
It is now between the first to audio tracks.
Playing through both tracks again, I have decided to go ahead with the very first file I had
downloaded for this project, ‘check it out’. It was more upbeat, fun, and fits a lot better with
the draft as the other one was quieter and slightly slower.
This video is now complete.
