2. About the Dean and Rector
The Very Reverend David Bird has been Dean and Rector of the Trinity
Cathedral in downtown San Jose, California, since 2003. Trinity is the
central church of the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real.
For the past twenty-four years, David has served in parishes with a very
strong ministry to the neighborhood. At Trinity Cathedral, he is proud of
the broad range of activities and programs which reach out to the
community. These include the College of Adaptive Arts, StreetsTeam,
feeding programs for the poor and elderly, as well as Scouts and very
diverse Twelve Step programs.
His previous appointments were in Georgetown, Washington D.C., and
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His Ph.D is earned from Duquesne University;
the dissertation is on church unity. David Bird co-authored a book on
Roman Catholic-Episcopalian relations. He has also authored texts on end-
of-life issues and published articles and book reviews for academic journals.
