The document summarizes the ways in which the student's media product uses and develops conventions of real music magazines. The front cover includes a masthead, central image, and cover lines like Q magazine. Inside pages feature a masthead, kicker, and images adapted from magazines like Q, Vibe, and Mixmag. A double page spread places an image on the left page and uses text in an conversational interview style like seen in Q and Nylon magazines. Overall, the student draws from real magazine conventions but also challenges some, like using multiple images on the contents page.

3. Conventions
My magazine uses the typical conventions of a
masthead, image, cover lines and a model credit.
Inside on the double page spread there is a
masthead, kicker and images. These have all been
adapted from the likes of magazines such as Q and
Vibe and Mixmag magazine.
4. Front cover
For my front cover, I have followed the likes of Q magazine and placed
the masthead in the top left corner. The name of the magazine ‘REMIX’
is linking to the type of pop/ dance music genre is focuses on. This is
like VIBE who focuses on pop/RnB. This is the optical area where the
audience is likely to look first. Then the image is centered in the middle
of the page and their direct address to the camera is similar to the
music magazine such as Q and Vibe. The portrait image shows more of
the artist like the cover featuring Eminem on Vibe. The photo
manipulation has been changed so the lighting is higher key and
creating a shadow like the image of LMFAO on the band image
analysis. The colour scheme of my magazine is purple, black, white and
silver. This creates an effective contrast like the colour scheme of Q
where they have used black white and red.

6. Contents Page
My contents page uses the same house style as typical music magazine
which helps it to look professional. I have used a larger image for the
main artist that the double page spread is based on. This is similar to Q
magazine that uses a main image placed on the right of the page. I
have also used other images of different artists. This challenges the
conventions of the magazines I have looked at as they haven’t used
more than two. I have also put in an editor’s note which is sometimes
used in Q magazine, this helps draw the audience in because it makes
it more personal and directs the magazine at the audience. I have also
placed the features on the left hand side of the page and used a similar
house style to keep the magazine up to a high standard. This is
manipulated from the Q magazine. As it is a music magazine, the props
used in some of the images include a guitar and keyboard which is like
the smaller images of the Q magazine contents page.
8. Double Page Spread
In my double page spread, the image is placed on the left page like the
lady gaga article in Q magazine. This has been manipulated so that the
image is high key to stick with the genre of the magazine. This is
similar to the Nikki Minaj article in Nylon magazine. However my
masthead is placed over the two pages to try and make it stand out to
the audience. I have still used the same house style on the double
page spread as I have on the contents page. The language I have used
for the interview is happy and vibrant to link to the genre and the
excitement of the magazine. I have done my text in a conversational
context where the artist speech is written as it was said in the
magazine. This is similar to the Nikki Minaj interview in the Nylon
magazine. I have used a pull quote and a smaller image in the column
to make it seem more interesting and eye catching.
