3. INTRODUCTION
This portfolio represents my work and achievements throughout my college
career. This portfolio is my original work and cannot be copied without
permission.
Hello, my name is Ali Foster. I am an accounting major in the accelerated
BBA/ MBA program. I am currently in my last year of my bachelors and then
will continue onto my masters the next year. I will be graduating with 150
credits August 2016. I am a member of HASNU which is an honorary
accounting society. I am also the community service chair of the American
Marketing Society where I plan and attend weekly volunteer opportunities.
This past tax season, I completed a part time tax internship at Andrew,
Hooper, Pavlik while also going to school full time. Through this opportunity,
I gained valuable tax experience in both individual and business tax returns
while also learning how to balance my work load with my school load. My
leadership skills gained through being the community service chair and my
time management skills learned through working while maintaining a full
school load, has prepared me for the extensive work load in a public

4. GOALS
Find a job in public accounting that will help me develop and expand
my current skill set in tax.
Continuously learn and stay on top of the current tax code.
Use my skills learned through my job experience to help me advance
through the company.
Become a more active member of the community through becoming a
board member of an accounting related organization.
Eventually, take my knowledge in tax accounting and business in
general to start my own firm.

Personally, I would deny the loan. What concerns me is Richardo’s notes
payables is far above industry standard. I do not want to be adding to that
amount. On top of that, they are having a hard time collecting their
receivables. This leaves them with a low liquidity level. Also, there debt ratio
is already higher than industry average. They have slow average collection
which adds to my concern about not collecting money in an appropriate
amount of time. Also, there turnover is slow, which in the refrigerator world,
may cause them to have outdates product and increase their COGS. Even if
there was a drastic increase in demand, I am not convinced that Richardo
could handle it with their current policies. They do not have good enough
credit policies in place or they do not enforce their policies. I am not
comfortable with providing Richardo with a loan.
Overall, Richardo had high COGS, S&A expense, and interest expense. Their
net income was well below industry standard, causing their ROE and TIE to
be poor as well. Richardo had high receivables which negatively effects their
DSO. Also, Richardo had high amounts in their payable accounts which
effects their liquidity ratios. I would suggest that Richardo improve their
credit policy in order to reduce their receivables and reduce their COGS and
S&A expense to try to improve their net income.

Now, I would like everyone to pretend for a few seconds, except you Eric.
Suppose a few years from now, you are working at some big corporation. Your
alarm goes off and you decide to hit the snooze button one time more than
usual. When you finally get up, you decide to have toast instead of your usual
morning breakfast. When you walk outside, you see the dog’s empty water dish,
so you decide to fill it up. Once you are driving, you hear your cell phone begin
ringing. Thinking it may be someone important calling about work, you look
down to try to find it. By looking down, you don’t see that the light in front of
you just turn yellow. You run the red light and hitting a car, you just killed
David, Mel and their child. Your decision to look for your phone just killed the
future president of the united states. Or was it your decision to fill up the dog’s
water dish? Or your decision to have toast this morning? Or your decision to hit
the snooze alarm one more time? But then again, If I hadn’t decided to show Eric
the picture of Melanie today, that child would have never been born. Small
decisions add up just like every penny makes a difference.
Today I was here to share with you how every single decision you make has a
huge effect on the world around you, not just the big decisions. Make every
decision you make count. I encourage you to make the decision to sit by
someone new in class, to say hi to someone new, to compliment someone’s
outfit, to change the world one small choice at a time.
