Research
I think the strengths of my research was already having a whole heap of
knowledge about the NFL in my head already so it meant I could use my
knowledge and use my research time to build the strength of that knowledge up
and up. I think this will have helped my product because it means the double page
spreads are much more detailed with facts, stats and more about the element of
the game or team.
Another strength was picking the team/teams I wanted to use for my articles or
double page spread. I support one team so that was a clear choice of using them
for a double page spread to really show that team off and explain their story
throughout history. I also follow other teams but not fully I just have an interest
either through family or players who play for that franchise.
This helped me create a better product because it meant I could use everything I
knew about the team and use my research to upgrade my words and just add the
extra detail. It was also helpful when I found a gap in what I knew I could research
that player or time period find what I needed and add it in.
Example of Strength of Research
I decided to plan out what I wanted first before moving to photoshop to create the final
version of the article or double page spread. Below is a screenshot of my Jaguars
PowerPoint slide which I began writing out all my knowledge about the team.
I managed to get everything about the future of team because everything is
recent and was already in my head. This element only needed research to
check who else the team drafted in the recent 2021 NFL draft. I felt
everything I knew about the future of the team was strong enough that I
didn’t need research unless it was to fact check.
Chapter 2 about the struggles from after 1999 was mainly research from the
years 2000-2016 because I hadn’t started following the team but from that
shock season in 2017 everything was my own knowledge and I really think
that is a strength because it was all in my own words before I had even typed
it out to begin planning it.
This section about the
founding and beginning
of team was a prefect
example of having
some knowledge and
upgrading the detail
with research.
I knew when the team
was founded and how
they upset the Broncos
in 1996. But from there
I needed to research
the team and find out
how many playoff
berths they had. The
part about the 1999
season was the prefect
mix of my knowledge
and research to check
facts and get loads of
detail in.
Research
I feel a weakness of the research process of trying to find information about
parts of the game that maybe aren’t as popular as others meaning there isn’t
that much information out there that you can find but I have tried to change
pieces out that I couldn’t find information for and changed it to a subject I
could find something on.
So I picked two teams, a review of last season, a preview of this season,
racism , beginning of the game and the draft. I struggled at the start to find
information on racism and the history of the draft but both are big parts of
the game so I wanted to keep them in because the game has struggled with
racism and continues to fight to have in kicked out fully and the draft happens
every year so is massive in terms of loving the game.
Once I managed to get going I did begin to find information easier but I found
this a weakness because I believed I would have to use information I had
heard on draft broadcasts and what I had read in reports.
My plan was to have more information about the beginning of the
draft but I could only find this much from when the draft began in
1936 and how it changed all the way up to the beginning of the
70’s.
I then began trying to find
how times changed during
the recent years and how
quarterbacks had quickly
become a huge part of the
game and they normally
would go first overall every
year. So shown from 2011-
2019, 9 drafts and 6
quarterbacks going first.
This part was a weakness turned around, I felt I needed to find
some interesting facts or story about the draft and I had
remembered watching a YouTube video on the 2004 draft and it’s
story. I prefer having my own knowledge because it’s already in my
own words so this is feels like a weakness despite how much detail I
found and managed to write out. I hope this won’t affect my work
because the other articles and double page spreads are detailed so I
am hoping this part not having as much detail will be carried by the
rest but I also hope this information is easy to take in and help
people learn a bit about the draft.
Planning- Strength
I feel like the strengths of my planning was already having a brief idea of what I
wanted to try build up during the planning stage. The main strength for me was colour
schemes and my ideas for what I wanted. The colour schemes I tried to think of what
colours show up in team uniforms and around the league a lot so that would all link in
with my idea of using the NFL for my magazine. My ideas were to always try find a font
like the one used for the back of player jerseys so knowing straight away I wanted that
to help make the text and headline of my magazine stand out.
Another strength was when it came to my 2021 draft notes. I don’t normally get into
the draft but this year was different so including it was a no brainer.
This draft class was the most talked about class that I have seen since I began
following the league and watching the draft. I had begun planning what I was going to
talk about for the draft before the draft had been done and even before I had begun
production. I watched and read so many mocks drafts, listened to podcasts, watched
YouTube videos. This all went into my head and became noted in their and then I
made my PowerPoint and the words all just flew out onto the page and in good detail.
The more detail the better because my aim was trying to get the NFL some more
followers and supporters so I really wanted to try show off the draft and maybe get
people to follow the class or a certain player from the draft. For me this is all help my
get a better grade for my final product.
Example 1 of strength
This knowledge was already in my
head and waiting to be used. I had
made notes on the positions at home
because when I watch the draft I do
enjoy knowing a bit about that player
even if they don’t get drafted by
Jacksonville(my team). The
quarterback class was unheard of this
year and I really want to be a
quarterback so making notes and
planning what I wanted to use about
the class this year. So I used my notes
and some research from pro football
focus and began planning out what I
wanted to use and include in my final
product. I also tried to plan out how I
would adjust from talking about the
pre draft information and the hosting
of the draft to then going into post
draft. Overall I feel this knowledge
has been extremely helpful and will
hopefully boost my grade.
Example 2 After the draft had taken place in the early
hours of Friday April 29th I came into college
after the weekend knowing who had gone
where and I could then use my notes about
the picks that stood out to me or had
everyone talking.
I also added in the entire picks from the first
round just for my own sake really so I could
see who went where when I was finishing the
page but then I thought if people are new it
may be better to leave it there as some extra
detail for the page.
Then also made sure the draft order at the
bottom of the page was the correct order
after the trades that took place on the night
had occurred. Again just to add more
information to the page.
I really feel like getting seriously into the draft
this year made it so easy for me because it
meant I was already set up for an article or
double page spread and I didn’t have to find
another area of the game.
Planning- Weakness
The only real weakness I can think of was when I just started planning my layout I felt
I didn’t really manage to create a strong layout that really made sense as to what I was
going for in my magazine and how I wanted it to look.
This was the first real layout design I tried and I really
did struggle with trying different background colors,
headlines, contents and a subline. I also struggled
trying to find a set pattern for the images I wanted to
you but I quickly began to see that this wasn’t going
to work and I felt a bit down afterwards.
If I hadn’t found this a weakness then I wouldn’t have
managed to build my way up to finding a layout that a
managed to really like and believe it to the best that I
could do and everything came together and in the
end creates the best chance for me.
I feel like I had more images I could have worked with
more and been able to test and trial different ways. I
don’t really think this will have affected the outcome
of my final product because trialing different ways are
all methods and a building block for you on the way
to creating the final piece.
Time Management
I feel like I managed time really well, I never felt like I had fallen behind at any given stage and always
believed that I was on the correct course and I would have everything done and be ready for the next stage.
Pre Production I always felt I managed everything well and made sure when there was a deadline I hit it
before hand and always had the work done in detail.
I made sure with the research and planning I used all the time I could and always kept double checking my
work after each day and if I needed to fill a gap I would give myself some extra time after I would normally
finish to make sure I had completed everything I set out to complete during that day.
When it came production I used the first few days to make PowerPoints with all the notes and information I
had at home and in my head because I felt this was an easier way to approach the situation as it meant I
could create my double page spreads and have them finished and then just add in the information I had
planned out and had ready and waiting for me. This also help to create a stress free working head for me
because I could just open up my notes, create my layout and then add in the notes I felt were the best for
that.
This saved me so much time because it meant I could use more time to really create the prefect layout and
covers and once I felt that had been done I could then add in the information I needed to finish the front
cover or double page spread.
Everything was completed on time and everything was uploaded on time which I am extremely happy with
because I hate been late in life so I always make sure I have everything done on time or even before the
deadline.
If I had more time I would maybe have created the interview articles with my friends and family answers that
I recorded during the lockdown period, I do believe my work without this is still extremely good and has met
the aims I set myself heading into the project.
Time Management PowerPoint pictures
Aesthetic Qualities
I believe that my work has come out looking good and is creative. I had early worries but with some
help and research and personal effort it all began taking shape and I began feeling more and more
confident with what I was doing.
The main quality for me was when I was creating my front cover for Quarterback One, I was trying to
think of how to make it relate to the NFL a bit more than it was currently. With some help and a
suggestion I went online to find some NFL fonts like those which appear on the jerseys of every team,
I managed to find a pack on fonts that included a font from all 32 teams and I started using ones that
looked the best and this really made the text for the headline stand out and grab the eye.
I also decided to find a quote from an NFL legend just to add something else and make the cover look
nicer and tighten up the edges. I found a quote from Packers legend Coach Lombardi ‘The Greatest
Accomplishment Is Not In Never Falling, But In Rising Again After’ I felt this adding
something extra because it is so true and it links so well to the NFL and how players go about playing
the game each week.
To improve I would maybe have found some more pictures before production began just so I was
prepared and when I needed an image to tie the game together I had one that I already knew was
brilliant for that moment. In order to do this improvement I would found some more pictures of some
London games, some team legends for the Packers and Jaguars.
I really like the final looks of some of my pages and I really like my front cover because I spent the
most time with it trying to find the right pictures then finding the best editing to change the colours
and I feel like all the work I put into it really paid off and it really looks good.
This is the final design for the front cover of Quarterback One and I really like it. The font I found is the font used by the
Cincinnati Bengals and it really changed the look of the front cover and added something that makes it stand out and
catch the human eye quicker than a normal boring font.
Only thing I would say was maybe I could have used a better color for the subline so it stood out more.
I felt like adding in a subline
would add something and I
felt like it should be
something short but
snappy so I felt ‘Your guide
to the National Football
League’ was the best. I
think having a line like this
on a magazine just adds
something different to the
cover and my aim was to
get more people to learn
about the NFL
The final images put
together. This was done
using different effects
during production using
photoshop and I really feel
like how the second image
from inside the ground
fades into the other really
adds something fresh and
cool looking to my cover. I
also tried to make the pitch
look brighter and the
crowd darker so the pitch
took the main focus.
The contents. I felt having a brief
introduction to what the magazine
was holding inside was a good
idea because the buyer pr reader
may see the bright yellow text and
wonder what else the magazine
has inside. I also felt having a
small contents before the proper
contents page will help get the
attention.
Having a quote which not only relates the sport itself but also
links to life sometimes. It also just adds in some extra detail
and gives the cover something new and different
Comparing Headline/Title
Most important part of front cover of a
magazine. You it to stand out. I think the
Gridiron stands out with the colour
scheme, mine does stand out now I
found a font which works and is big and
bold.
Images.
The girdiron may stand
out more because it
has Patrick Mahomes
on the cover and he is
one of the faces of the
league right now but
going for a different
approach like
Quarterback One still
looks just as good
Neil used this subline saying the ultimate preview
and I liked this idea so but I wanted to use something
different and something that maybe links NFL to
general life so found a quote by the great Vince
Lombardi. I feel both just add a different level to the
respectful cover.
I felt when review the
past season I should
have the what ever
the biggest story was
during the season and
that was Tom Brady
leaving New England
and going to Tampa
Bay. Start the articles
in the most important
piece of information
to grab the attention
of the reader.
With the Covid 19
pandemic I felt it was
only right to include how
that impacted the season
and how the league
worked around the virus
to ensure some kind of
football would go ahead
in 2020, even though it
would be extremely
I felt adding some images just took away the non stop adding of
the article. These pictures I knew would be correct for this part of
the magazine. Tom Brady the center of last season, Patrick
Mahomes one of the leagues best and the prize they all play for.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy
The playoff and season end..
For me I believe this is the
section of the sport that new
followers would be most
interested in so I had to make
sure I had a good chunk on
the playoffs and the Super
Bowl. New followers like the
excitement, I remember
when I began watching the
first game I watched was the
2017 AFC Championship and
I then wanted to learn about
that seasons playoffs and
how teams made it.. The next
year I would follow the
Jaguars fully. Watching
teams battle it out to be the
best does bring in a lot of
viewers and a good chunk are
first time
Headline always try to make
it stand out from the rest.
What I looked at against what I did.
I tried to find magazine that had a similar idea so I mainly looked at Gridiron as
that is a magazine I have used to help me understand the game and develop my
knowledge and help me get into the game more. For me I tried to just certain
parts but change myself, Neil explains about the cover player whereas I went for
the contents of the magazine…
Looking back at it I feel like to make the cover better change the contents for a
bit of information about Quarterback One and what it held on the inside.
Audience Appeal
I do believe I have appealed to my target audience. The aim was to appeal to people my age who may
need a hobby to help with mental health as I found the NFL helped me back in 2017. The aim was to try
get strong points and key information into my final piece of production in the attempt to get people to
learn about the sport, how it began, how it works, the draft and some teams.
I feel like trying to use colour and images to help people deal with all the reading. I tried link colours and
images to what that article or page was on because if everything was mixed and matched people may
lose track or just end up losing track and then just giving up and that is not what I want. I want people to
read all the way through and learn something new and maybe want to take that knowledge and use it
and hopefully get into the sport, pick a team and begin their NFL journey.
Looking back at my survey I had asked about using a design similar to
Looking back I’m glad I used the results of saying people would
not be drawn to this because I ended up going for a design and
layout all put together by myself and this means I have taken on
board what the feedback said and made sure I try find a solution
in order to create something that would catch eyes and grab the
attention of those in the target audience.
Having something you have created means those who gave
feedback and are going to give you new feedback with your new
ideas and final design won’t be able to compare it to anything
and the feedback is will 50-50 between positives and negatives.
Always include the team name as this is aimed at
people who don’t follow the league and I just want
to show the team off so they need to know which
one of the 32 this is
Background
For the Packers I decided
to not only include an
image of Aaron Rodgers
and the celebration after
Super Bowl 45 I felt this
needed a background
colour as well just to add
in that extra. In my
planning I had spoken of
using the colours of the
team in my work so
everything linked
together.
Images- I didn’t think having
images would make a difference
but it just adds something new and
creates a visual presentation that is
eye catching.
With this article I tried
to keep the text in
short snappy chunks
making it easier to
read, this also meant I
could space the text
and images out and still
have space if I needed
to add in extra detail in
order to upgrade the
product.
Tried to use something
recent so the article is
fully up to date hence
why I added the Aaron
Rodgers mini article last
minute due to his
current situation.
All Final Products
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1- Uncle Kevin
• What did you like about the product?
The level of detail included in the articles and double page
spreads. Very useful and all the information is easy to read,
layout is good.
Front Cover is good, choice of colour is strong and writing is clear
and easy to read.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
Contents page maybe could be layed out better and maybe have
some contents then a picture, more contents another picture
and so on until you run out. Just would create a neater page and
makes the overall look nicer.
Feedback 2- Andy (Aka Dad)
• What did you like about the product?
All the layouts for the main slides/pages for the magazine. Detail is key
but it all needs to be easy to read and every page has a layout which
makes this very easy and still creates an overall nice look.
Colour scheme is good on the pages with it, correct images used to link
text and team together.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
For the back cover maybe have another quote from a legend of the
game or maybe just have something that ties it together right now it
looks a little bit messy and rushed but if that is sorted very good.
Feedback 3- Jake
• What did you like about the product?
I really like everything about all the final products you have
created. I really like the way you have faded your two pictures
together and they do look good together.
The front cover is also extremely good and I love the writing
and how the text jumps out for me. You have tried to keep a
colour scheme of using bright colours.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• I don’t think anything is terrible but one little thing for
me is the contents page and back cover are both a little
bit messy but if you tidy that up then you will have a
super project overall.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
Overall I happy with the feedback I have been given, I was expecting
everyone to react the same and give the same feedback but having
different things liked has made me feel extremely confident that I have
created a strong product. I do agree with my Uncle and Jake saying
about tiding up the back page and contents page, looking at them now
I can see they are rather messy. My Uncle’s idea of keep it similar but
mixing text with pictures would maybe look better so I am going to
improve.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I had disagreed with my uncle and Jake but looking back at it now I
have no reason to feel that way because everything said is true. My
dads comments are also true so overall I agree with everything they
said and I have no comments on any disagreements on my behalf.
Peer Feedback Summary
Only changes would be the improvements given to me by my uncle
and Jake because I went to make sure everything I have created is
good and if people have given me something that needs work on then
I need to make sure I work on that and improve it.
In this case I can easy easily now that the feedback is correct and
those two pages do need tiding up and once those improvements
have been done I feel like all of my work will be at a top level.
They may not be massive improvements but I know looking back now
with those words I can see what needs to be done.
I think doing this is put that final touch on a product that I have been
proud of all the way through.

Evaluation

  • 3. Research I think the strengths of my research was already having a whole heap of knowledge about the NFL in my head already so it meant I could use my knowledge and use my research time to build the strength of that knowledge up and up. I think this will have helped my product because it means the double page spreads are much more detailed with facts, stats and more about the element of the game or team. Another strength was picking the team/teams I wanted to use for my articles or double page spread. I support one team so that was a clear choice of using them for a double page spread to really show that team off and explain their story throughout history. I also follow other teams but not fully I just have an interest either through family or players who play for that franchise. This helped me create a better product because it meant I could use everything I knew about the team and use my research to upgrade my words and just add the extra detail. It was also helpful when I found a gap in what I knew I could research that player or time period find what I needed and add it in.
  • 4. Example of Strength of Research I decided to plan out what I wanted first before moving to photoshop to create the final version of the article or double page spread. Below is a screenshot of my Jaguars PowerPoint slide which I began writing out all my knowledge about the team. I managed to get everything about the future of team because everything is recent and was already in my head. This element only needed research to check who else the team drafted in the recent 2021 NFL draft. I felt everything I knew about the future of the team was strong enough that I didn’t need research unless it was to fact check. Chapter 2 about the struggles from after 1999 was mainly research from the years 2000-2016 because I hadn’t started following the team but from that shock season in 2017 everything was my own knowledge and I really think that is a strength because it was all in my own words before I had even typed it out to begin planning it. This section about the founding and beginning of team was a prefect example of having some knowledge and upgrading the detail with research. I knew when the team was founded and how they upset the Broncos in 1996. But from there I needed to research the team and find out how many playoff berths they had. The part about the 1999 season was the prefect mix of my knowledge and research to check facts and get loads of detail in.
  • 5. Research I feel a weakness of the research process of trying to find information about parts of the game that maybe aren’t as popular as others meaning there isn’t that much information out there that you can find but I have tried to change pieces out that I couldn’t find information for and changed it to a subject I could find something on. So I picked two teams, a review of last season, a preview of this season, racism , beginning of the game and the draft. I struggled at the start to find information on racism and the history of the draft but both are big parts of the game so I wanted to keep them in because the game has struggled with racism and continues to fight to have in kicked out fully and the draft happens every year so is massive in terms of loving the game. Once I managed to get going I did begin to find information easier but I found this a weakness because I believed I would have to use information I had heard on draft broadcasts and what I had read in reports.
  • 6. My plan was to have more information about the beginning of the draft but I could only find this much from when the draft began in 1936 and how it changed all the way up to the beginning of the 70’s. I then began trying to find how times changed during the recent years and how quarterbacks had quickly become a huge part of the game and they normally would go first overall every year. So shown from 2011- 2019, 9 drafts and 6 quarterbacks going first. This part was a weakness turned around, I felt I needed to find some interesting facts or story about the draft and I had remembered watching a YouTube video on the 2004 draft and it’s story. I prefer having my own knowledge because it’s already in my own words so this is feels like a weakness despite how much detail I found and managed to write out. I hope this won’t affect my work because the other articles and double page spreads are detailed so I am hoping this part not having as much detail will be carried by the rest but I also hope this information is easy to take in and help people learn a bit about the draft.
  • 7. Planning- Strength I feel like the strengths of my planning was already having a brief idea of what I wanted to try build up during the planning stage. The main strength for me was colour schemes and my ideas for what I wanted. The colour schemes I tried to think of what colours show up in team uniforms and around the league a lot so that would all link in with my idea of using the NFL for my magazine. My ideas were to always try find a font like the one used for the back of player jerseys so knowing straight away I wanted that to help make the text and headline of my magazine stand out. Another strength was when it came to my 2021 draft notes. I don’t normally get into the draft but this year was different so including it was a no brainer. This draft class was the most talked about class that I have seen since I began following the league and watching the draft. I had begun planning what I was going to talk about for the draft before the draft had been done and even before I had begun production. I watched and read so many mocks drafts, listened to podcasts, watched YouTube videos. This all went into my head and became noted in their and then I made my PowerPoint and the words all just flew out onto the page and in good detail. The more detail the better because my aim was trying to get the NFL some more followers and supporters so I really wanted to try show off the draft and maybe get people to follow the class or a certain player from the draft. For me this is all help my get a better grade for my final product.
  • 8. Example 1 of strength This knowledge was already in my head and waiting to be used. I had made notes on the positions at home because when I watch the draft I do enjoy knowing a bit about that player even if they don’t get drafted by Jacksonville(my team). The quarterback class was unheard of this year and I really want to be a quarterback so making notes and planning what I wanted to use about the class this year. So I used my notes and some research from pro football focus and began planning out what I wanted to use and include in my final product. I also tried to plan out how I would adjust from talking about the pre draft information and the hosting of the draft to then going into post draft. Overall I feel this knowledge has been extremely helpful and will hopefully boost my grade.
  • 9. Example 2 After the draft had taken place in the early hours of Friday April 29th I came into college after the weekend knowing who had gone where and I could then use my notes about the picks that stood out to me or had everyone talking. I also added in the entire picks from the first round just for my own sake really so I could see who went where when I was finishing the page but then I thought if people are new it may be better to leave it there as some extra detail for the page. Then also made sure the draft order at the bottom of the page was the correct order after the trades that took place on the night had occurred. Again just to add more information to the page. I really feel like getting seriously into the draft this year made it so easy for me because it meant I was already set up for an article or double page spread and I didn’t have to find another area of the game.
  • 10. Planning- Weakness The only real weakness I can think of was when I just started planning my layout I felt I didn’t really manage to create a strong layout that really made sense as to what I was going for in my magazine and how I wanted it to look. This was the first real layout design I tried and I really did struggle with trying different background colors, headlines, contents and a subline. I also struggled trying to find a set pattern for the images I wanted to you but I quickly began to see that this wasn’t going to work and I felt a bit down afterwards. If I hadn’t found this a weakness then I wouldn’t have managed to build my way up to finding a layout that a managed to really like and believe it to the best that I could do and everything came together and in the end creates the best chance for me. I feel like I had more images I could have worked with more and been able to test and trial different ways. I don’t really think this will have affected the outcome of my final product because trialing different ways are all methods and a building block for you on the way to creating the final piece.
  • 11. Time Management I feel like I managed time really well, I never felt like I had fallen behind at any given stage and always believed that I was on the correct course and I would have everything done and be ready for the next stage. Pre Production I always felt I managed everything well and made sure when there was a deadline I hit it before hand and always had the work done in detail. I made sure with the research and planning I used all the time I could and always kept double checking my work after each day and if I needed to fill a gap I would give myself some extra time after I would normally finish to make sure I had completed everything I set out to complete during that day. When it came production I used the first few days to make PowerPoints with all the notes and information I had at home and in my head because I felt this was an easier way to approach the situation as it meant I could create my double page spreads and have them finished and then just add in the information I had planned out and had ready and waiting for me. This also help to create a stress free working head for me because I could just open up my notes, create my layout and then add in the notes I felt were the best for that. This saved me so much time because it meant I could use more time to really create the prefect layout and covers and once I felt that had been done I could then add in the information I needed to finish the front cover or double page spread. Everything was completed on time and everything was uploaded on time which I am extremely happy with because I hate been late in life so I always make sure I have everything done on time or even before the deadline. If I had more time I would maybe have created the interview articles with my friends and family answers that I recorded during the lockdown period, I do believe my work without this is still extremely good and has met the aims I set myself heading into the project.
  • 13. Aesthetic Qualities I believe that my work has come out looking good and is creative. I had early worries but with some help and research and personal effort it all began taking shape and I began feeling more and more confident with what I was doing. The main quality for me was when I was creating my front cover for Quarterback One, I was trying to think of how to make it relate to the NFL a bit more than it was currently. With some help and a suggestion I went online to find some NFL fonts like those which appear on the jerseys of every team, I managed to find a pack on fonts that included a font from all 32 teams and I started using ones that looked the best and this really made the text for the headline stand out and grab the eye. I also decided to find a quote from an NFL legend just to add something else and make the cover look nicer and tighten up the edges. I found a quote from Packers legend Coach Lombardi ‘The Greatest Accomplishment Is Not In Never Falling, But In Rising Again After’ I felt this adding something extra because it is so true and it links so well to the NFL and how players go about playing the game each week. To improve I would maybe have found some more pictures before production began just so I was prepared and when I needed an image to tie the game together I had one that I already knew was brilliant for that moment. In order to do this improvement I would found some more pictures of some London games, some team legends for the Packers and Jaguars. I really like the final looks of some of my pages and I really like my front cover because I spent the most time with it trying to find the right pictures then finding the best editing to change the colours and I feel like all the work I put into it really paid off and it really looks good.
  • 14. This is the final design for the front cover of Quarterback One and I really like it. The font I found is the font used by the Cincinnati Bengals and it really changed the look of the front cover and added something that makes it stand out and catch the human eye quicker than a normal boring font. Only thing I would say was maybe I could have used a better color for the subline so it stood out more. I felt like adding in a subline would add something and I felt like it should be something short but snappy so I felt ‘Your guide to the National Football League’ was the best. I think having a line like this on a magazine just adds something different to the cover and my aim was to get more people to learn about the NFL The final images put together. This was done using different effects during production using photoshop and I really feel like how the second image from inside the ground fades into the other really adds something fresh and cool looking to my cover. I also tried to make the pitch look brighter and the crowd darker so the pitch took the main focus. The contents. I felt having a brief introduction to what the magazine was holding inside was a good idea because the buyer pr reader may see the bright yellow text and wonder what else the magazine has inside. I also felt having a small contents before the proper contents page will help get the attention. Having a quote which not only relates the sport itself but also links to life sometimes. It also just adds in some extra detail and gives the cover something new and different
  • 15. Comparing Headline/Title Most important part of front cover of a magazine. You it to stand out. I think the Gridiron stands out with the colour scheme, mine does stand out now I found a font which works and is big and bold. Images. The girdiron may stand out more because it has Patrick Mahomes on the cover and he is one of the faces of the league right now but going for a different approach like Quarterback One still looks just as good Neil used this subline saying the ultimate preview and I liked this idea so but I wanted to use something different and something that maybe links NFL to general life so found a quote by the great Vince Lombardi. I feel both just add a different level to the respectful cover.
  • 16. I felt when review the past season I should have the what ever the biggest story was during the season and that was Tom Brady leaving New England and going to Tampa Bay. Start the articles in the most important piece of information to grab the attention of the reader. With the Covid 19 pandemic I felt it was only right to include how that impacted the season and how the league worked around the virus to ensure some kind of football would go ahead in 2020, even though it would be extremely I felt adding some images just took away the non stop adding of the article. These pictures I knew would be correct for this part of the magazine. Tom Brady the center of last season, Patrick Mahomes one of the leagues best and the prize they all play for. The Vince Lombardi Trophy The playoff and season end.. For me I believe this is the section of the sport that new followers would be most interested in so I had to make sure I had a good chunk on the playoffs and the Super Bowl. New followers like the excitement, I remember when I began watching the first game I watched was the 2017 AFC Championship and I then wanted to learn about that seasons playoffs and how teams made it.. The next year I would follow the Jaguars fully. Watching teams battle it out to be the best does bring in a lot of viewers and a good chunk are first time Headline always try to make it stand out from the rest.
  • 17. What I looked at against what I did. I tried to find magazine that had a similar idea so I mainly looked at Gridiron as that is a magazine I have used to help me understand the game and develop my knowledge and help me get into the game more. For me I tried to just certain parts but change myself, Neil explains about the cover player whereas I went for the contents of the magazine… Looking back at it I feel like to make the cover better change the contents for a bit of information about Quarterback One and what it held on the inside.
  • 18. Audience Appeal I do believe I have appealed to my target audience. The aim was to appeal to people my age who may need a hobby to help with mental health as I found the NFL helped me back in 2017. The aim was to try get strong points and key information into my final piece of production in the attempt to get people to learn about the sport, how it began, how it works, the draft and some teams. I feel like trying to use colour and images to help people deal with all the reading. I tried link colours and images to what that article or page was on because if everything was mixed and matched people may lose track or just end up losing track and then just giving up and that is not what I want. I want people to read all the way through and learn something new and maybe want to take that knowledge and use it and hopefully get into the sport, pick a team and begin their NFL journey. Looking back at my survey I had asked about using a design similar to Looking back I’m glad I used the results of saying people would not be drawn to this because I ended up going for a design and layout all put together by myself and this means I have taken on board what the feedback said and made sure I try find a solution in order to create something that would catch eyes and grab the attention of those in the target audience. Having something you have created means those who gave feedback and are going to give you new feedback with your new ideas and final design won’t be able to compare it to anything and the feedback is will 50-50 between positives and negatives.
  • 19. Always include the team name as this is aimed at people who don’t follow the league and I just want to show the team off so they need to know which one of the 32 this is Background For the Packers I decided to not only include an image of Aaron Rodgers and the celebration after Super Bowl 45 I felt this needed a background colour as well just to add in that extra. In my planning I had spoken of using the colours of the team in my work so everything linked together. Images- I didn’t think having images would make a difference but it just adds something new and creates a visual presentation that is eye catching. With this article I tried to keep the text in short snappy chunks making it easier to read, this also meant I could space the text and images out and still have space if I needed to add in extra detail in order to upgrade the product. Tried to use something recent so the article is fully up to date hence why I added the Aaron Rodgers mini article last minute due to his current situation.
  • 21.
  • 23. Feedback 1- Uncle Kevin • What did you like about the product? The level of detail included in the articles and double page spreads. Very useful and all the information is easy to read, layout is good. Front Cover is good, choice of colour is strong and writing is clear and easy to read. • What improvements could have been made to the product? Contents page maybe could be layed out better and maybe have some contents then a picture, more contents another picture and so on until you run out. Just would create a neater page and makes the overall look nicer.
  • 24. Feedback 2- Andy (Aka Dad) • What did you like about the product? All the layouts for the main slides/pages for the magazine. Detail is key but it all needs to be easy to read and every page has a layout which makes this very easy and still creates an overall nice look. Colour scheme is good on the pages with it, correct images used to link text and team together. What improvements could have been made to the product? For the back cover maybe have another quote from a legend of the game or maybe just have something that ties it together right now it looks a little bit messy and rushed but if that is sorted very good.
  • 25. Feedback 3- Jake • What did you like about the product? I really like everything about all the final products you have created. I really like the way you have faded your two pictures together and they do look good together. The front cover is also extremely good and I love the writing and how the text jumps out for me. You have tried to keep a colour scheme of using bright colours. • What improvements could have been made to the product? • I don’t think anything is terrible but one little thing for me is the contents page and back cover are both a little bit messy but if you tidy that up then you will have a super project overall.
  • 26. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? Overall I happy with the feedback I have been given, I was expecting everyone to react the same and give the same feedback but having different things liked has made me feel extremely confident that I have created a strong product. I do agree with my Uncle and Jake saying about tiding up the back page and contents page, looking at them now I can see they are rather messy. My Uncle’s idea of keep it similar but mixing text with pictures would maybe look better so I am going to improve. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? I had disagreed with my uncle and Jake but looking back at it now I have no reason to feel that way because everything said is true. My dads comments are also true so overall I agree with everything they said and I have no comments on any disagreements on my behalf.
  • 27. Peer Feedback Summary Only changes would be the improvements given to me by my uncle and Jake because I went to make sure everything I have created is good and if people have given me something that needs work on then I need to make sure I work on that and improve it. In this case I can easy easily now that the feedback is correct and those two pages do need tiding up and once those improvements have been done I feel like all of my work will be at a top level. They may not be massive improvements but I know looking back now with those words I can see what needs to be done. I think doing this is put that final touch on a product that I have been proud of all the way through.
