Four Square is a relatively new type of Social Media in the UK,
however it has proved highly successful in America.
● Four Square requires more customer involvement, rather than
business involvement. It requires customers to check-in at a
location

● Four Square works similarly to a loyalty card. A business can
offer an incentive to customers who check in.
● E.g. if a customer checks in at a hotel 5
times in a year, they could be eligible for a
free room upgrade
● Foursquare can be linked into Facebook, giving greater exposure.
The benefit of this is 78% of people will acknowledge a peer
recommendation

Case Study: London 2012 Olympics
● On the 27th July London will play host to the 2012
Olympic Games. This will create an influx of tourists
needing hotels rooms and leisure facilities.

● While London will receive the majority of the tourists,
events are taking place all over the country.

● Old Trafford football ground will be playing host to 8
football games, with one being the semi final. Between
the dates of 26th July and the 7th August, 608,000 people
will be travelling to Old Trafford to attend an event,

● Social Media would be ideal to market hospitality
services to travelling fans, this is due businesses being
able to reach consumers on a global scale, whilst
incurring costs that would appear minuscule compared to
traditional advertising channels.

Conclusion

The world wont end if a business doesn’t use Social Media, but there
are lots of compelling reason to use it.
• Social media is becoming the gateway to the
internet, Facebook now has more unique

• Social media is still evolving and is predicted
to do so for years to come.

• Social media allows you to directly target
your specific customer segment, making your
marketing strategies more efficient in terms
of cost and efficiency.
