Ing. Alessandro Pogaccini has over 30 years of experience in electrical engineering for marine vessels. He has worked on projects for shipbuilders Fincantieri and Saipem, including cruise ships, drill ships, pipe-laying vessels, and an FPSO unit. Most recently, he finalized engineering for upgrades to systems on the PLBH barge for the Shah Deniz project in Azerbaijan and began engineering for refurbishment of another barge. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Trieste and has authored several publications on electrical distribution systems in shipbuilding.

Professional experience
2015 Sha Deniz project
Finalizing the project with the commissioning of the Distribution and Generation system of the
PLBH, started the engineering for the refurbishing of DBA (barge) for Saipem consisting in
upgrading of some engine room systems and installation of new winches.
2014 Shah deniz project
On August moved to Baku (Azerbaijan) to supervise engineering and installation of PLBH for
Saipem.
2014 Shah deniz project
Conclusion of the engineering activity to the MSC project.
Starting to follow the electrical engineering for the barge PLBH part of the Shah Deniz project,
with Navalprogetti engineering company, Saipem subcontractor.
2013 Drill ship
From January came back to Italy from Singapore, working at the basic design (definition of
power generation and distribution, Dynamic Positioning philosophy, ship specifications) of a
Drill ship for Fincantieri Shipyard with Meccano engineering company..
Supervision of the electrical engineering for refurbishing of Castoro 6 (employed by NAC Nuovo
Arsenale Cartubi)
Engineering of the MSC refurbishing Series for Fincantieri consisting in updating of the electrical
documentation due to the addition of a new fire zone to the ship (Meccano engineering).
2011-2012 PLV project Castorone
Transferred to Singapore for the conclusion of the project, load test of main generators,
paralleling and power management test, interlock test, attending the sea trial.
2010 Refurbishing Cruise vessel Carnival Conquest
Upgrading of all the electrical system engineering (power, communications safety) related to part
of a deck of the Cruise passenger ship Conquest.
2010 PLV project Castorone
Complete definition of the Main distribution system and Power management system of the ship,
supervision of the engineering developed by the yard for the electrical systems, arrangement and
main cable layers layout.
2. 2009 PLV project Castorone
From February transferred in China (Yantai) working on the definition of the main Power
distribution system of the PLV (pipe layer vessel) Castorone for Saipem.
2008 FSRU and PLCV project
From May collaborating with Rina Industry on the FSRU Livorno project, as electrical
inspector, dedicated to the engineering approval procedure of the FSRU (floating storage
regasification unit). Also collaborating with Saipem to the conceptual and basic design of the new
PLCV project (pipe layer and crane vessel with DP3 feature), defining the electrical systems
chapter of the ship specification, the preliminary load balance, main distribution diagram and
short circuit calculation.
2007 Saipem Vitoria Commissioning
From August transferred on board of Vitoria to follow the startup and commissioning of the
electrical plants.
2006 Saipem Vitoria
From June collaborating with Saipem to the new FPSO (Floating Production storage oil
unit) Vitoria as E&I coordinator, spending nine months in Dubai Dry Dock till the departure of
the unit to Brasil, revising the electrical engineering of the ships system and FPSO process
modules, the installation of the cables.
2004 Asirobicon. Italy
From January collaborating with Asirobicon on definition of Electrical propulsion system
for ship building, project management for the manufacturing of the Synchroconverter unit on
Cruise ship Carnival and Costa, and definition of the control system for Air conditioning plant on
Cruise ships.
2002-2003 Saipem 3000 conversion. Sembawang shipyard (Singapore)
Involved in conversion of a crane vessel with dynamic position system class DP3, supervision of
the electrical functional project, from basic design to detail engineering, supervision and
inspection of the on board installation and commissioning of the systems.
2001 Fincantieri, building 6075, 6081.
Calisa, gas tanker (Rijeka, Croatia)
Collaborated with subcontractor M2 as electrical leader for the development of the detail
engineering of the passenger cruise ship 6075 and Ro-ro pax French railways (consisting of
execution of cable trays plans, detailed layout of electrical equipment and cable routing. Involved
in the inspection on board of the electrical installations for a gas tanker (owner Calisa ).
2000 Cammellairds (England), Costa Classica conversion
Collaborated with subcontractor M2 as on site project leader for the refurbishing of Costa
Classica, developing the basic and detail engineering, following the Class approval procedures
with Rina.
1988-1999 Fincantieri, Technical Department
Involved in several projects such as Crown princess, Costa Classica, Costa Romantica,
Statendam, Regal Princess, Bulk carriers for Julemar Company whose project was originally
developed by Burmeister and Wein in Danmark, ro-ro ships, as electrical leader.
3. Responsible for developing a software system that integrate all the activities of the electrical
projects used by Fincantieri S.p.A, the system performs complete management of all the
activities, like drafting of all functional drawings, calculations for sizing the power distribution
network, production of the relevant bill of materials, and semiautomatic routing of the cables on
the cable trays.

Collaborated with technical office for planning of electrical system in civil buildings.
1987 Trieste University. Electrical department
Collaborated with Electrical Department of Trieste University and Mining S.p.A AGIP Group to
develop the electrical and automation system for an experimental flotation plant.
Educational background
Born in Haedo (R. Argentina) on 04/02/1959, obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering
at University of Trieste (Italy) with 110/110on 28/04/87 with a graduation thesis concerning the
control system of the oil pipeline connecting Ingolstadt (Germany) with Trieste (Italy)
